Is bipolar disorder a real or made-up condition? Could it be a personality trait or a certain state of mind (mood)? It seems like a highly buzzed about condition in Western countries, but never spoken of, or even heard of, in others.

I was diagnosed - seen by nine different psychiatrists who confirmed it - with bipolar disorder, and I spent several years in psychiatric hospital.
Believing that it WAS really a disease, I spent many years taking medications until I got new insights, gradually (very carefully!) weaned myself off the meds using professional help, and found my own way with life, this earth and it's inhabitants. This was years ago. No symptoms or 'relapses' since.
I caught up and finished my education, I started working with clients and did many of the things the doctors told me I would never be able to do because of this 'illness'.
