  1. The implication is that the two cases mentioned could have been avoided with extra scrutiny. The truth is that neither of the expats arrested had any outstanding warrants from their home countries. This new initiative by Immigration is just more harassment aimed at the expat community.
  2. My credit union provided a way out of this debacle. After speaking to a Manager, they are sending me TWO debit cards. Only one will be active at a time, but if I lose one, I can activate the other with a phone call or an email. Apparently, my situation was unique enough that they made an exception to the way they usually issue these cards. As long as I can have a spare in reserve, I should be okay.
  3. That is incorrect, READ what I wrote. The money goes directly into my credit union account from Social Security, Alabama Teacher's Retirement and a TIAA annuity. The payments to my credit card accounts were set up online. There was NO "deposit" from Thailand. I access money for living expenses with my credit union debit card.
  4. I DO have online access to my credit union account. Wire transfers cost 40 USD. In addition to local fees, the bank also charges a fee for debit card transfers which esceed three transactions a month. They are totally inept and really don't give a damn about their overseas customers. I doubt that I am the only one. They also want complex Docusign arrangements which do not accept foreign addresses. I nearly always have to talk to a manager instead of a telemarketing turd who does not even know about the basic rules of international transfers. Average waiting time for overseas calls is between 30 minutes and an hour.
  5. They don't care about business. Knowledge of even basic economics is sorely lacking here in Thailand. When they tank the economy, they will just blame the farang.
  6. Most all of my money is kept in America, where it's safe. I cannot set up automatic credit card payments here.
  7. Taxes are not part of the problem. At least not yet. No one knows whether they will be subject to Thai taxes or not. The usual slipshod Thai way of lawmaking.
  8. I am reasonably sure that I cannot use a Bangkok Bank debit card to access funds from my American account.
  9. I have tried to get a Charles Schwab account, but they told me they do not issue debit cards to those who live in Thailand. Apparently, many use them here but I was told "NO"!!!
  10. The video dealt with CARDLESS withdrawals, not WIRELESS withdrawals. Completely different from what was mentioned.
  11. No power failures were involved nor did I leave the card in the machine. I got a message saying my card had been kept and to contact my bank. Plenty of funds in the account, too.
  12. I only keep a local account so that my agent can use it for my yearly Extension of Stay. She supplies the required cash and then withdraws it
  13. That is PRECISELY why I maintain my American account. I can set up automatic payments to the three credit cards that I have active. Bangkok Bank has no such service for customers. I don't want to be drowning in late fees, so I set up automatic payments.
  14. I have done this at least once, since I have an account there, but they are extremely resistant to this practice and try to steer me to the ATM. Very frustrating.
  15. I have a bank account with Bangkok Bank but I can't use it for making payments to American credit cards. This is not a matter of forgetting my card, the machines failed to return the card in all cases.
  16. I have been living in Thailand about eight years and still use my home credit union in America. Over this period of time I have lost at least five debit cards when an ATM grabbed them and would not return them. This seems to almost never happen With Bangkok Bank, but other bank's ATMs are problematic. It takes most of a month to receive a new debit card from America, even with a "rush fee". I am looking for ways that will allow me to get money from my home bank without inserting my card in an ATM. I know that several banks have a "cardless ATM feature" but details are usually confusing since I am using a debit card from America. Several people have mentioned "Google Pay" or "Google Wallet", but again details are skimpy and trying to explain to my local bank usually results in frustration with no results. Any ideas from the membership here??? Losing. a debit card is a nightmare because of the length of time that it takes to get here and the only other option is expensive wire transfers. All suggestions appreciated. I doubt that I am the only one who faces this problem.
  17. Even as an inveterate "never Trumper”, I now hope he gets another term. It's the spanking that America deserves. He still has more to ruin. The electorate has been given the gun with which they will commit political suicide.
  18. If a Thai person kicks you, it's business as usual. If YOU kick a Thai person (especially a HISO) it's an international incident.
  19. Pay the toll fees, cheap charlies. Where can you find this in your home country???
  20. True. My dry cough is due to taking Losartan for blood pressure. The cough is not as bad as with Lisinopril, but it does make you cough.
  21. Wonder how long it will take this arrogant pig to commit some infraction that will end his career. Look at the FACE of this "officer". It says it all.
  22. Since I had a new passport, I really didn't have that option. I will try to use the online method exclusively from now on, but the online method is far from intuitive.
