  1. I lost that long ago, I no longer believe in fantasies.
  2. I'm sure that will make the families of the dead feel much better.
  3. Poor training and acceptance of safety measures/laws/rules by parents, relatives, teachers, RTP officers, government officials, can and do hurt students.
  4. It's never good being a guinea pig, especially when it comes to dangerous new tech.
  5. "Alleged"? You mean there are still people out there that bought this ruse?
  6. Yes, I think using her logic, since the baht is stronger now, they can now pay her less which will help her "better manage" her "spending in Thailand".
  7. Now we know why the leasing companies want a "wet lease".
  8. I'm interested in who approved the work, inspected it afterwards, and who signed off on it at Thai Land Transport Office. Or better yet, who took the brown envelopes to look the other way, and how high up did the money go.
  9. These weren't children from Elite families, expect nothing to change.
  10. If they are lucky enough they will be able to take part in any future coup, maybe even get to murder students on campus without repercussions.
  11. There are plenty of laws on the books, and hefty fines, the issue is enforcement.....until the RTP is made to do their jobs, nothing will change.
  12. It's amazing what thick brown envelopes can do, like magic, the bus is thoroughly inspected and passed.
  13. It will stay in the news for a week or two, then be forgotten like all the other "tragedies", expect no changes, and continued business as usual. You only need to look back at the Zebra crossing issue, nothing has changed!
  14. Since they haven't stated what these "interventions" are, should we assume they are just manipulating the currency as they have been accused of?
  15. So do we use Thai logic/culture and just accept that this was their "fate"? I know I have been fed this BS before, or do Thai's actually plan to do something about the unsafe drivers, vehicles, and attitudes.
  16. I believe they already did a huge change not long ago, that buses with a certain amount of seats could not be older than like 10-15yrs? There was also something about double decker buses being phased out. I don't see how a 54 yr old bus would even be allowed on the streets.
  17. This is Thailand, they don't care about safety, they don't care about kids, they don't care to use logic or commonsense, avarice is their only ambition.
  18. Yeah, one look at vehicles driving down the road here, and you have to wonder what an inspection really is or used for, because it ain't working!
  19. He is nothing but a scapegoat at this point, protecting the greedy owners "face".
  20. It would have been I think somewhere between $350,000-$450,000 payback, or 5 years time working "here" in Thailand for her University, which was a pretty good deal. We decided 5 yrs was pretty short, and worth the savings. But I still think we might have been better to just pay it back and have stayed in the USA.
  21. Under Prayut he was handed I believe a B2 Trillion expenditure, then we barely heard from him for years.
  22. I believe the conversion was 15 years old.
  23. .....and total disregard for safety.
  24. No, she is Thai, owed time to her University here in Thailand for paying for her PhD she got in America.
  25. My wife uses the medical part of our stay here as a positive part of being here, but I choose to look at the fact that I would rather live a healthier life, and not need medical, then to live an unhealthy life and have need medical.
