  1. The women are claiming damages done by Qatar Authorities in Qatar, against Qatar Airways who did not commit any act of negligence or error. However, because Qatar Airways did not refuse to comply with the Qatar Authorities, they were possibly negligent? What a load of total political BS. The politics behind the women being allowed to sue Qatar Airways in the AFC, and the personal financial motives, are atrocious and an insult to international law. This all happened in 2020 and the Authorities in the Qatar Airport were prosecuted (I dont know outcome). Before you continue with the outrage - which I do understand and agree with somewhat - many women were 'searched' - over 100 I believe. A newborn baby was abandoned in the airport toilets and the Qatar Authorities believed the Mother was one of the passengers who had boarded or was boarding planes. In Qatar that is a very very serious crime - it is attempted murder to abandon a new born baby. The Qatar Authorities have since found out who the mother is and have issued an arrest warrant - she had left the country. There is no doubt what was done to the women was unacceptable - in Australia or any civilised country - but it was done by Qatar Authorities in Qatar not Qatar Airways - and the Qatar Government has apologised to all the women involved - I have no idea regarding if any compensation has been offered. But I do know that this case should not have proceeded - it was rejected by the AFC in April 2024 for obvious legal reasons, and it was previously denied in the lower Courts. IMO this has become very political and is now all about women's rights worldwide. But IMO the women should be seeking 'remedy' through ICJ not through AFC - but politics is at play here big time and that you cannot understand that shows your ignorance of the laws. If they somehow win, that would set a legal precedent which would mean that any illegal act under Australian Law committed in any country within the confines of the airport against an Australian, whether legal in that country or not, could be tried against the airline who flew that person into that airport. Forcing legal liability on the airlines to be responsible for such a situation, when that act is outside of their control (eg. raped in airport toilets) is a ridiculous and erroneous legal precedent. What airline will carry an Australian passengers into any country if they are legally liable for anything that happens to them in that other airport?? There is a point when the airline can no longer be held liable for what happens to its passengers - acts by the authorities in another country is surely well past that point of liability. As you have said, Qatar Airways Australia would probably prefer to settle this matter and reach a settlement. But I think the politics behind this may seek to force Qatar itself to be found guilty and be forced to pay compensation, and they are squeezing Qatar Airways to push their Owner to comply. I guess how far this goes in the AFC will depend upon how things are negotiated though the 'back channels. I suspect that if Qatar passed laws prohibiting the medical invasive inspection of women without their permission or a Court Order, the case would be 'allowed' to fade away.
  2. Unfortunately, like most Thai online businesses, the Medisafe online 'shop' is not modern. They provide no list of their products and prices you can search - unless I have missed it. They expect you to send them a note and request the medication you are after and they will tell you if they have it and the price? Surely not. Have I got the wrong website - https://medisafepharma.com I was going to recommend iHerb but when I checked I could not access their website. And posters on AN have been complaining since early July they cannot access the iHerb website. They just keep shooting themselves in the foot here - it looks like they changed their website for the **** people who buy things using their phones and that has caused problems with some computers.
  3. Have tried many times to access iherb over 2 days - given up and buying elsewhere now. If they cannot get their website to work when their competitors do, then it is not my problem to solve.
  4. Egypt has a border with Gaza and their wall is higher than Israel's and more heavily guarded - they hate Hamas and their terrorist supporters in Gaza. They know exactly who and what they are - fanatical islamic terrorists who all want only one thing - the death of all Jews and Christians. Stop feeling sorry for them - they brought this on themselves and this current PR campaign (we are starving) is their last desperate appeal for idiots in the West to stop Israel taking them out.
  5. The Australian Federal Court does not have legal standing to try alleged acts of violence or personal abuse committed in another country - unless the perpetrator is an Australian citizen and committed the alleged acts that are specifically covered under Australian Laws for overseas jurisdictions (pedophilia etc.). The Montreal Convention covers death/injury and financial loss caused by an airline through negligence (accident or lost luggage etc). What exactly did Qatar airlines do - was it them that detained the women and strip searched them? If so then they are liable - but the story indicates that the acts were done by the Qatar authorities - therefore the airline was not negligent. Or are you saying anyone travelling with Qantas who is detained and injured by the Thai Authorities in Thailand can sue Qantas when they return to Australia??
  6. Agree 100% - She cured my long time skin condition, when many dermatologists in Australia had no idea. She has a private clinic and if you can see her there, rather than at RAM, you will save a lot - especially on the medications and tests.
  7. That looks like money to me. A well written complaint to the CAA and ADR and a demand for compensation (costs, pain, anguish, inconvenience, suffering bla bla bla) will succeed IMO. Obviously the main complaint is against the Airport Company - but also lodge one against the Airline. They will both not want this to go to Court as it will cost them a lot in legal fees - hence why the ADR etc exists.
  8. Met 13 years - married 10 - long may it last I hope. Best decision of my life - you all know the worst one - many of us here made the same bad one.
  9. No mate - you are far from being the only one - in fact most people hate the guy. But for the same reason he is the way he is, is the reason he is not attacked publicly over his manners. However that is starting the change - thank goodness - there is only so much we can all take.
  10. I hear you - my bad - but read the comments the Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit said - "Most departing passengers are foreign tourists." My take on that is that they are reluctant to tax Thais again - same as they were reluctant to tax Thais in the proposed increase in 'Tourist Tax' on arrivals.
  11. Qatar Airways (Australia) is definitely involved, but Qatar Airways is a Government owned enterprise of Qatar and they are not bound by any Fed Court decision. It is a long bow to say that a breach of an international convention can be tried in an Australian Court - the ICJ Court under the UN is setup for that purpose and I am sure. Qatar as owner of Qatar Airways will clearly claim Fed Court has no jurisdiction - nor IMO do they have any. But Qatar Airways (Australia) could be tried - if they are found to have acted inappropriately - but highly unlikely to be able to be convicted of a crime. The big fish will be negotiating as this matter will put at threat Qatar Airways operating in Australia - I am sure they will seek to settle without any admission of guilt. Either way - I am sceptical this is a reasonable case and still believe it to be politically and financially motivated. Same as that women who alleged rape in Parliament House - she got a huge payout and walked away happy and became political. I fear this is more of the 'Me Too' BS.
  12. Good points made in that article, but I dont really rate it for accuracy because of the nomenclature failings. Thailand and Cambodia are modern names - it was Siam Kingdom and Khmer Kingdom. However the fact that it talks about ongoing and constant battles and land changing hands between all 3 Kingdoms (including Burmese) going back 100s of years is correct. The disputes between Khmer and Vietnam (DieNamViet etc) were ongoing and a lot more recently than the others.
  13. For many things like Golf and Hotels they put their prices up in October to March and call that the 'high season'. For tourists paying for a week or two, I guess that it is November.
  14. Words of Wisdom - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Analysis_paralysis Decide what to do and do it - try another thing - do it again - try another thing - do it again. In the end you end up doing what you want to do - except for only one thing. There is only one thing you HAVE to do - and that is when you stop doing anything. The rest is up to you - so go and do it. Youtube - Sabine Hossenfelder Ignore the most condescending man in the world - Neil deGrasse
  15. The problem the Thai Govt has had with all this BS in the past is that they do not want to apply the taxes on Thais. Last time around the airlines and booking agencies told them to go fornicate themselves. They are not tax collection agencies who can decide who and who does not get the tax - it is either all or none. They should just apply a small amount to all incoming and outgoing passengers, like the rest of the world does. They then could allow Thais to claim it all back in their annual taxes, or through the customs duties refund locations at the airports. But this is Thailand and they always do it the 'obedient committee' way and inevitably totally screw it up up. All they have to do is ask the advice of all the international travel experts (non-Thais) who offer their advice for a fee. But they just cannot accept that others know more - it is called 'losing face' and it is holding back Thailand (and all of SEAsia).
  16. Sad to hear that - what a waste of time and money - and no doubt done for political reasons. Qatar will rightly ignore the AFC who has no jurisdiction over what happens in Qatar. under Qatar Laws. Imagine that - countries suing other countries for not complying with the laws of another country - totally ridiculous. Or are they suing the Australian operations of Qatar airways for what was done to them in DOHA by the Qatar authorities? Exactly what could Qatar airways do to force the Qatar authorities to comply with Australian Laws. Either way - the women will be criticised for making this political and seeking publicity - and it will end badly for the women who went through the ordeal. Those who will use this situation for their own political purposes will cause far more problems than they could solve - the women will pay the price. Sad.
  17. Brief History Lesson for the Ignorant and Uneducated. Siam conquered the Khmer Kingdom in 1400s - many battles going back 100s of years. Siam owned Siem Reap and most of Laos and Cambodia. They lost in when the French and English came in late 1800s. They became Thailand in 1930s. The Victory Monument in Bangkok is for the Thai-Franco War that Thailand 'won' in 1941 with help from the British and that gave them back most of the lands lost/stolen by the French including Siem Reap. After WW2 Thailand was forced to give up lands - both to Laos and Cambodia which itself became an independent country in 1950s (Kampuchea). The lands and all the temples in dispute along the border for 100s of Ks was part of the Agreement and are within the Thai borders. The ICJ ruling gave control over one group of Temples to Cambodia BUT not the lands around them. They did that because Thailand is not a member of the ICJ and told them to go fornicate themselves - Thailand never accepted the ICJ decision. The ICJ ruled that the borders are inside Thailand but the Temples are 'controlled' by Cambodia - what a great way to create future problems - UN idiots being idiots.
  18. Doubt we have got the whole story or even half of it. But I believe they were detained and searched by the DOHA Authorities (Police) in DOHA and they are suing in a DOHA Court (in absentia) - good luck with that.
  19. No you numpty - they cancel the Contract if the seller refuses to eat most of the extra costs, because the price will then be too high for the consumers. Likewise, could also they take a bit of a hit and lose some margin for the same reason. Economics, Trade and Business. You should stick to gender studies.
  20. Says it all about the haters here on AN. Biden has serious physical and mental deficiencies and they refused to even see them let alone acknowledge them - but Trump is going bald and they go all gooey and funny 🤣 I know I am right in supporting him when I see this sort of lunacy about Trump - and I know he is winning big time.
  21. About as likely to be as successful as the recent TAT disaster. Besides it is only 2 months until October which is the traditional start of the high season. They take 3 months to decide what colour toilet paper to use in their Offices - no way this will happen so quickly.
  22. It is unbelievable the BS you see and hear on forums like AN from people with no idea about how trade works in the real world. Have you ever heard of the term currency hedging? It is used when agreeing to buy a product from any country at an agreed price point. The taxes, duties and tariffs are another thing built into the Contract. When buying rice from Thailand it is inevitably bought over a long period of time and for a minimum and maximum amount 2000 Tonnes over 12 months. In the Contract the tariffs and taxes are all accounted for and the currency rate is hedged and then the deal is done or not. That is how international trade is done - not deal by deal or item by item. The buyer/importer pays an agreed amount based on the TOTAL COST of the products - including taxes and duties - if they are massively increased the Contract can be canned or changed. The usual Contract allowance is from 5% to 15% variation in import costs - any more than that and the Contract can be canned 0 the Buyer also hedges the currency but it is done differently through EFTs and is a huge part of the currency exchange markets world wide. What usually happens when costs increase is that the buyer (importer) then seeks the prices to be dropped, or they will buy from elsewhere. Then the importer also has to consider what other products will be offered to consumers in competition to the ones that they are buying. If a competitor is buying from a country with far lower duties, taxes and fees, they have to consider what price point their product will be competitive - that is why sometimes there is no price increase - even decreases if the competitor can get a much cheaper supplier. It is very complex and very fluid - but that is how international trade deals are done. Unlike the woke experts in the media saying the costs are all 100% passed on to the consumer, that is absolutely totally a false statement.
  23. Good point - they use both the legal and the grants system to bolster their 'message' - tear it all down.
  24. I agree - and this is why there is a lot of criticism (woke call it 'hate') - the hype that is going to the WSL should be given to that which is more deserving - The EPL. If it was just added on top it would be OK but it is not - it is taken away from other far more deserving sports. I will agree to disagree about women's mental capabilities. You need to live longer and with more women maybe?
  25. Ditto - in fact all the woke agenda non-government organisations - especially the fundraisers. Their delusional mentality believes they are doing 'God's work' and therefore the Govt should pay for their BS - because private persons do not contribute enough. In fact I would shut down all of them and take away all funding and tax benefits - they then have to apply and provide detailed proof of exactly what they are doing and what benefit they did for society - the one paying their costs. When it comes to international humanitarian stuff - that is why we contribute to the UN (which I think is also corrupted and should be dealt with the same harsh approach).
