  1. Some great replies.

But, if anything, all I've learned thus far is that the answer to my querie (being) "Why should I care about Thai politics", is that I'm correct in thinking that I shouldn't.

It makes absolutely no difference to me and I suspect it makes little or no difference to the Thai populace, either.

Seems to be rather like the political process back home.

"The new boss, just the same as the old boss and now the parting on the left is just a parting on the right".

    Who said that.

You could always take up Ostrich farming. On the beach of course.

You have had some worthwhile answers to your post.

There is no real need to get involved with the politics of any country that you decide to live. Although it is wise to have an understanding. Wouldb't you think?

  2. I dont understand what the problem is here and why there are so many vehement comments ,especially when most of the comments are coming from people who have more than like likely done the same thing here in The LOS.

Why do they call it sexual assault when obviously it was consensual.Americans allow all kinds of perverts intp office, allow all kinds of perverted porn movies ans videos-,porn channel, the Land of the FREE,but then they indignantly go after a guy who succumbed to lust.BIG flippin deal.He didnt rape her and she was likely not a virgin so to me typical American slop.Theywant to ruin the guys life for a little sex, what about a little protection for men from these little sluts who although very young parade around in very"HOT" and sexy clothing, where are the parents. No way in hell I would chase this poor guy down. Here in Thailand-Cambodia-Phillipines-a 13 year old would be very experienced. So what makes Americas 13 year olds so speacial. This guy should have come here first for that kind of activitym, rather than later but the whole thing in America is nothing but Hypocrisy.

Also I ahvent been able to post my questions on certain topics.Would someone please inform me how to have my question appear at the top of the page as is seen here,THANKS AND CHEERS.

    Under age = Statuary Rape

  3. The Beaujolais Nouveau should be arriving at the end of this month.

I agree that a cheapy red is probably better when drunk slightly chilled. Or go the Spanish way and drink a calemucho which is cheap table wine mixed with coca cola. Can be quite refreshing and takes away the sickly sweet taste of the coke.

I was in Andalusia Spain a few years ago and the mix there was original (cloudy) lemonade. The same very refreshing. I forget what it was called though.

I think you're correct with the name, I used to also be fond of making this and selling it off a push cart on my front lawn during the long hot summer holidays. It's 1 cup sugar, to 5 whole lemons + 50% water with plenty of ice.

Ah the wonders of the Internet I have managed to find the name of the drink I was talking about.

  5. Moral of the story.

Choose a better class of restaurant.

Buy wine buy the bottle, opened at the table.

    The norm.

Just out of interest, did you go to the fridge,to find out the wine had an expiry date.

As this is what is implied.

Some of us can taste a problem...................coffee1.gif

And some us know red is served at a room temperature, not from a fridge..................coffee1.gif

Actually, from my time in Italy, I learned to love chilled red, especially "spicy" reds.

Besides, "room temperature" in Thailand is about 98 degrees fahrenheit. w00t.gif

But then, after reading Charlie's recent post, don't want it to sound like I'm attacking you Trans …..

It is OK to serve a young red wine slightly chilled. With Beaujolias Nouveau, it is recommended.

  6. It's always pointed out not to point a finger at others in Thailand because it's considered rude and they obviously don't like it. So then why the hell they do it to others if they don't want it to be done to them? And it's not an excuse that they do it to arrested individuals. You said don't do it so don't do it. I like Thais but they are so childish.

He should have got up and bitten it.

  7. Give the guy a break, he most likely forgot he even picked it up in the first place.

Owner suspected he was stealing but could not catch him ? Sorry but a total drivel, not so hard to check someone daily

How do you " check someone daily "?rolleyes.gif

The article says “Khun Siriporn claimed Mr. Janalik had been coming to the Supermarket for a long time and she suspected he had been shoplifting on many occasions but he had yet to be caught-in-the-act. “

Supermarket owners probably get a good sense for what is happening within their own environment. Sounds pretty incriminating to me

    Suspected, CCTV, Not really difficult.

  8. as it costs investors extra logistic expenses for having to change the car engines when crossing the border.

Obviously the guy knows what he is talking about, makes a lot of sense to change the cars engine! after all a left handed engine works different to a right handed engine, it turns in the opposite direction!!!!!

Ah does that mean that they will have 5 reverse gears & 1 forward?

Sorry biplanebluey didn't see your post.

  9. I guess I should say something simply because I am likely to belong to the top 1% on TV in terms of being an absolute clothes freak.

There is not a tailor in Bangkok who can deliver the same kind of quality and material that you'll get if you spend 40k baht on a normal factory collection Italian suit in one of the shopping malls. The problem for a certain percentage of the male population is that standard sizes aren't even close to fit.

But trust me when I say this; you can't buy a cashmere wool suit for less than 30k since the material itself is 30k.

You WILL NOT get the same quality as ordinary Canali, Zegna, Armani or similar if you buy a tailored suit in Bangkok. Period. Proper tailors in London are different, but then you're looking at a completely different price...

I went to Bicester Village (Oxfordshire) bought an Versace off the peg suit, from the Vercase shop for slightly under £500.00. Ok this was about 7years ago. The first time I wore it was to a function. A friend came up to me felt the jacket and asked if it was something special? Quality shows.

  10. That's what happens when you have a 3rd world country without laws that protect people. Construction workers are expendable because they work for the rich Thais. Nothing new in Thailand about poor people getting killed, if your government doesn't give a dam_n then your days are numbered.

Thailand is not a 3rd world country!

Sorry but, a large percentage of it is.

You could use the more modern term of 'a developing nation'........ personally I'm not that keen on the way some parts are developing.

Well according to Wikipedia Thailand is a Newly Industrialised Nation. Honest cheesy.gif

  11. There is also Australian and Irish bars on Soi 11 but the Dubliner I believe is now closed. The Sportsman on Soi 13 food is good and reasonably priced with lots of Brits especially on Pool League evenings. I have always managed to have a pleasant conversation with people I met there.

Is that the same Sportsman or to be politically correct similar that was next to the Dubliner?

  12. Everyone knows that Thai buses and vans are death traps, but they keep coming. Thais are just now writing news about this. That's preposterous in and of itself. Several letters were written to the Thai editorial press of the two major English newspapers detailing the unsafe conditions of vans from Mo-Chit to Thammasat University in 2008. Not a thing was ever done. Then there were the accidents with the 16 year old driving and there was some brief skirmishing around. Then, as usual, it was dropped as is the Thai custom. Now, again, the academic speaks out as if no one ever knew or was aware of unsafe buses, vans, and trucks, not to speak of motorcycle havoc and Tuk Tuk mayhem in Thailand. Thailand is a moving death trap.

Ok the manufacture of these vehicles is crap.

But when it comes down to the nitty gritty it is still mostly down to driver error.

Isn't toughened glass standard procedure. There should be a special little hammer positioned next to the window for breaking the glass in an emergency. In fact I have seen on a lot of buses the empty holder where these hammers should be. Guess they got nicked.
