  1. Exercise is a great way to get in shape, but the slowest way to shed weight. Which is your goal? Or is your longer-term goal just good health?
  2. I spend 3-4 mornings a week at sports. (Gyms bore the hell outta me!) Normally, carbs are burned for energy. Reduce the carbs and the body switches to burning fats. But... the body needs 'some' carbs. If the body doesn't get enough, it will manufacture them. As long as you're healthy, you won't run out... The body can only handle so much carbs, and then it begins to store them. I choose not to store them any longer.
  3. Again, just anecdotal evidence. When we see words like ‘suggest’ and ‘likelihood’ we know that there is no peer-reviewed scientific study. It ‘may’ be correct, and it may be wrong. I prefer to stick with science.
  4. I've been following the Keto lifestyle for over six years. No related health issues, according to my yearly health checks. I agree! That's why I've adopted Keto as a lifestyle and not a 'diet.' Radically change one's eating habits for a few weeks, and we can call it a 'diet.' Live your life eating the same way every day, and it becomes a way of life. But I would love to see some peer-reviewed studies in medical journals to back up your statement about fat or protein. How much fat or how much protein is not healthy? This is Science. What are the numbers? If it's so, then there will be data to back it up, not just anecdotal evidence.
  5. Thanks! Early mornings and me don't get along. Thanks for the heads-up!
  6. Keep it simple. If you want more energy, more zing? Try the Keto Lifestyle. I'm 78 and still out and about every day, sports three-four times a week, NO NAPS in the afternoon...
  7. So long as the HDL levels are high and the LDL levels low, it really doesn't seem to matter. Two doctors whose opinions I tend to trust have told me the same thing. So long as my blood pressure and heart function remain normal, I can continue with this lifestyle. I hope they are right... I began eating this way six and a half years ago, and so far, so good. I've only got about another 10 years if I'm lucky, and this diet makes my body feel much better overall. Joint pain reduced, body inflammation reduced, more energy, alert, never feel bloated after meals. and the biggest advantage... no more Pre-Diabetes. Peer-reviewed research on Cholesterol has been radically changing medical thinking about Cholesterol and its role in the body.
  8. Not many. I have a busted bicep muscle that stops me from rock climbing too. Did it about 10 years ago when I was in my 60's. Doc said not to bother fixing it so long as I don't put too much strain on what's left.
  9. BMI - 24 BP - 118/70 Pulse - 65 as of Saturday. I've maintained this average for the past five years. I doubt I hit my Keto macros very often, but the fats certainly always do outweigh the proteins, and the carbs tend to come from green vegetables of some sort.
  10. My Keto macros are 80% fat, 15% protein, and 5% carbs. A 'little' lump of butter won't work for me. I need lots more.
  11. Great for a single person who doesn't want to use oil for frying. Simple to use, a bit messy to clean up, but very convenient. A little small if you have a large family. Terrible if you feel the taste of good oil is important when frying, or following a Keto lifestyle.
  12. Flushing toilets causes more disease than sitting on them. When you flush, water vapor carrying particles of matter from the toilet rise up in the air, literally coating the walls of the stall... and you. I was taught at an early age to close the lid before flushing. Dad was a doctor. Even Chinese Feng Shui says toilets should be closed (doors too!) for an auspicious life.
  13. Excuse me? You believe badmouthing people for what they wear is 'just making conversation?' Wow! Thanks for clearing that up. Goodbye.
  14. Interesting way to avoid answering the question. You should get dancing credit for that. Let's try the question again, like we do for politicians who won't answer. Why do you give a damn what other people are wearing?
  15. Legit question: Why do you give a damn what other people are wearing? So long as the person next to me doesn’t smell bad, I couldn’t care less what they are wearing.
  16. Many expats are not concerned with fashion. The statement, "The clothes make the man," might be true in the competitive business world, but holds no water for those whose lives revolve around leisure activities. Personally, my goal is comfort, and most of my clothing is 20+ years old, soft, and comfortable. Clean Cargo shorts and a clean cotton T-shirt or polo shirt, and a pair of sandals, is perfectly acceptable men's wear here in Thailand, even for expats.
  17. I finally realized that going bald was going to work for me. No more wasted time every morning when getting dressed. No more bad haircuts. No more having to carry a comb to look neat. Once a week, I machine-cut the stuff left around the edges. Done. Life made simple by Male Pattern Baldness. 🙂
  18. Mangosteens, lychees, mango, papaya, and longons... in season, only. I'll eat bananas, but only as a last resort.
  19. I have five cotton canvas shirts that I wear during the two weeks every winter when the temps plunge into the low 20's, which need steam ironing. All my other clothes are wash-and-wear. I have not worn suits or dress clothes in 25 years. With luck, I'll get another ten years without suits or dress clothes. The ironing board does get used... twice a year.
  20. Neither does the United States of America. At least, not one that's being followed.
  21. That's exactly NOT the behavior we need from our leaders! We need them to be negotiating 'in our best interest,' and NOT in their need for pay-back. Revenge isn't the best political strategy. It's school-yard tactics at best, and basically, the policy that the entire White House administration has been following!
  22. I’m wondering why both yo and trump have conveniently forgotten to mention that crime in D.C. is at a 30-year low?
  23. It's a mixed blessing. We start off with a program that tells us its answers might be completely incorrect, but most don't pay attention to that part and follow it blindly. It will give us answers to so many of our daily-life questions, making it an invaluable aid... when the answers are correct. But... I have two friends who have already lost their jobs to AI. Both are older men, 65+, who will probably never find another income stream. And this is just the beginning. AI will be a blessing to those at the top. Not so much for the little people.
  24. No, data isn't racist. It's the interpretation of that data in racist hands that causes the problem. Washingto D.C. only has a 39% White population. It stands to reason that the majority in crime statistics are people of color. Anyone looking at the data and thinking, 'Gee, they're criminals because they're black' is just racist.
  25. Was the pain that you folks felt from the needle itself? Or from the medicine that was injected? I had two needles into my eye over the course of two weeks at Sriaphat to deal with blood inside my eyeball. Scared the hell outta me, but I didn't feel a thing! Bright light, some pressure, but absolutely no pain. In fact, I'd take that over getting blood drawn. Less painful!
