  1. Yep! Those eclairs! OMG! You've convinced me. ROTFL!
  2. Thank you! I've learned something today! Bread has a gender! Croissants are gay! Won't scientists be surprised! Tell me, is it true that rutabagas are actually trans? Where does one go to find out these things?
  3. I've been a teacher in Asia for half my life (but not teaching in Thai schools.) I have seen companies and schools hire people to teach English who; ... were not Native English Speakers. ... had serious speech impediments (stuttering, strong accents, etc.) ... had zero experience or training to be an educator. ... were taking the job just to stay in the country with a valid visa. ... had the 'idea' that they could communicate well, but in fact, didn't. ... nice 'kids,' but no idea how to reach people of a different culture. Even as a university professor, I watched other lecturers show daily movies in French (to an English class,) another who just gave the students a 5-page writing assignment as their entire semester's work, and another who only wrote on the whiteboard, but never spoke in class... and this was university level! That said, I've also met some of the finest ESL teachers! People who take their craft (yes, teaching is a craft) seriously, continually working to refine their skills. Educators, not job-fillers. People who are in it for the outcome, not the income. Certainly not for the income. Not in Academia. The problem is universal, not just Thailand, although Thailand does take it to another level.
  4. Not for us. We looked around carefully before deciding to move to Thailand. We had plenty of options but decided Chiang Mai would be best for us. It has been.
  5. I moved to Thailand with my wife 25 years ago for retirement. We've never even considered leaving. Why would we?
  6. The trick is... don't stop. 🙂
  7. Yes, you are correct. Thanks for that. I'm sure there were many people confused by my incorrect use of language. I, too, often help others expand their vocabulary. Here is an example you might enjoy: “Pedantic" is a word used to describe someone who annoys others by correcting small errors, caring too much about minor details, or emphasizing their own expertise, especially in some narrow or boring subject matter.” Credit to Merriam-Webster.
  8. I eat three full meals a day, drink 3-5 liters of tea or water every day (I confess I do pee often during the day but not at night,) and drink a large mug of tea in the evenings. I go to sleep around 11:30, fall asleep almost instantly (which really pisses off my wife,) and wake up with the sunrise. At 78, this works well for me.
  9. Free tea and coffee. At 250 Baht for an 'all-you-can-eat' meal with dozens and dozens of freshly-made options (the staff is continually bringing out refills for the various offerings,) it's one hell of a good deal. Add in the fact that the food is delicious, and it just makes it that much better.
  10. I agree. My usual everyday breakfast at home is a package of cold cuts, a block of cheese, and a handful of Kalamata olives. While Auf der Au does have a nice selection of deli meats, I tend to stick to the cooked dishes; various sausages, braised pork leg, chicken in different presentations, and plenty of different salads!
  11. Aud der Au's buffet makes for a delicious German breakfast/brunch on a Sunday morning! Good variety and good value for the price. I don't normally eat wheat products or sugar so I miss out on all the great breads, pastries, and sweets.
  12. Rimping often had a 'buy one/get one free when they are promoting different foods. To date, I haven't seen anything amiss with the pricing. But... ... I have often seen the 'second item' different from the first, as if they are trying to get rid of old food rather than promote new stuff.
  13. A pleasant read, but not up to usual standards... felt a bit forced this time. Or perhaps I just didn't like my choice of tea this morning; an English Breakfast blend from the Vieng Joom On tea house. Looking forward to tomorrow's tale. 🙂
  14. I do wonder why people are telling the OP to stop... instead of just scrolling past his posts? Do you also pick at hangnails to see if they will still hurt? Some of us enjoy these stories. Why do you feel that you have the right to stop us from seeing them?
  15. Is this really a 'Thai' thing? I think it's pretty universal. Relatively few people work in the same field as their university degrees unless somewhat specialized; i.e. Medicine, Engineering, or other sciences.
  16. Another delightful quick read over my morning tea. Keep up the good work! It makes for a delightful way to start the day!
  17. Delightful read over my morning tea! Keep it up!
  18. Koshihikari rice grown in Mie Prefecture, Japan.
  19. You are correct! He will live on in your mind, taking up so much of your thinking, forever. He's become a permanent resident! 🙂
  20. Reading through all of these posts, it's remarkable how many times the Right brings up Obama (he's been gone for how many years now?) and Biden (he hasn't been in office for quite some time either.) I've even seen some Harris-bashing going on. Anything to try to divert attention from what's actually going on.
  21. The fact that there is 'no legal basis' for such a declaration is totally and completely irrelevant. Trump has already broken so many laws, violated so many court decisions, etc., that one more will make no legal difference.
  22. Correct. But he can invoke the Insurrection Act, and THEN declare Martial Law. And after that, ' temporarily' stop elections in order to 'protect the people' from fake elections.' We're just one executive order away from a total dictatorship.
  23. Right or wrong in this issue has become irrelevant. He was treated like a person of color and just thrown to the floor. It makes no difference 'who' he was, just 'what' he was not! He was not white. Had he been white, he would have been treated differently. We've seen this many times before. Frankly, I'm surprised no one was standing on his neck!
