  1. A new tactic employed by the southern insurgents. Quite bold indeed and would have more than likely required an insurgent to have visual on the target before detonating the device. Losing 3 BDE 's in the one incident is almost not heard of due to stringent standard operation procedures. The terrorists have worked around this for maximam effect and will more than likely force these teams to change the way they deal with such situations in the future.

  2. Spelling is fine. This is what we call ภาษาวัยรุ่น or teenage language. Translation is below.

รอ ฉัน รอ เทอ อยู่ นานม๊ากแร้วนะ = I have waited for you long enough already.

บัตรมันหมดอายุ แร้วจะคืนเงินดั้ยงัย ยัยบ้า ยางๆม่ะจบ เดวตบโชว์เรย ร้ายนะโว้ยยย = My card has expired already so how can I return the money ? She is crazy, soon I will punch her out. Evil <deleted>#$ !

  3. If the court finds them guilty the fallout will be immense. Dark days ahead me thinks.

They will never be guilty of those charges because it isn't true.

+ Without amnesty shield, the soldiers were confident to clear their names through the judicial process because crowd control operations took place in the face of unidentified armed men, he said.

    (from here: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/677705-dont-involve-military-on-amnesty-prayuth/)

I know that. You know that. But this is Thailand.

  4. If you have got the language barrier sorted out then I can't see why you can't pull in these places. Although one night stands are a hard task, getting a phone number to hook up at a later date is quite easy as a matter of fact. Despite what people think a lot of Thai girls desire weatern men but it is the language thing that deters them. And yes they prefer a man with some cash. Particularly thse CNX girls. But who doesn't these days ??

  5. I have heard that it will be business as usual. The only exceptions are live entertainments which have been delayed to a date to be confirmed. So all the floating krathongs on the river, flying lanterns and playing with things that go bang will go ahead as usual.

What is your rumor source ?whistling.gif

Something that you wouldn't be capable of reading. whistling.gif

  7. Unfortuately this presents as a very difficult thing to achieve. Especially here in Thailand. She would have to have been observed, most probably by a fellow Thai, that she is an imminent danger to herself or another before she can be forcefully admitted to hospital. Stigma towards mental health issues are a global thing however much more so in Thai society. Hence the family are in denial.

I can't begin to image how hard this must be for you but I would be letting it play out the way her family want it to. And assist only when asks. Husband / wife relationships here in Thailand will always play second fiddle to blood relatives. Particularly when the spouse is a foriegner.

One final thing. Don't forget about yourself !

  8. They sure are looking at all possible ways to increase revenue. And there should be more of this type of revenue raising as opposed to things like the foriegn visitor entrance fees.

These " ready-to-drink green tea beverages " are not so indifferent to soft drinks. And as stated in the OP, actual tea content in these drinks is "minimal". Indeed a consumer discretionary product. So why not tax it ?

  9. Or just maybe, given the entire purpose of Loy Krathong anyway, this could have been made a very special event to honour the passing of the Supreme Patriarch.

Or maybe, just maybe, respect how the Thais run their own religion and stop complaining about how it's inconvenient for you. As it's the least of their worries.

I for one will be fascinated to see how they incorporate their feelings for the Supreme Patriarch into the occasion.

With lots of alcohol and fireworks as per usual.

  10. 8.25 pm tonite is ทองเนื้อเก้า night on channel 3. It has an almost cult following, on monday and tuesday and is well worth watching for a laugh and to practice one's listening skills.

It is about a very attractive, self centred, alcohol loving women named ลำยอง and her family who live in the slums of Bkk. If you guys are shacked up with a Thai misses then you may already be being forced to watch it. Check it out ! tongue.png

  11. It's just going to frustrate the Thais in the hospitality industry ,as the Chinese are not noted for being good tippers. This is the general consensus from what I have heard.

You are right. They are one of many nationalities that tipping is not their custom. However they spend huge amounts of money at meal times. Probabley cuz only half the food gets to their mouths. The other half is left all over the table to be cleaned up by the tipless waiters.

  12. Well if the Thai police already know this much about the weapon used in this murder, why would theey advertise this. If the weapon is not at the bottom of a river, lake, or sewer system at this press release, it should be shortly. Its a wonder they did not give out the serial number and caliber while giving the latest 'its a tough case' press release.

It's said to be a 9mm, but there's more than one type of 9mm.

The OP says that "the gun used in the shooting..." so do they have it? How else would they know it needed to be modified to fire the bullets?

I believe that all 9mm guns are semi-automatic. More accurately I should say I don't know of any. If true the gun ejects the spent rounds and they should be found on the ground, unlike say a revolver.

So if they have a gun thereby knowing it had to be modified because they also have some cartridges in the gun and/or spent casings, then I see nothing wrong with saying it. It might lead to a tip about who had such a gun.

Some Thais are incredibly violent, and life seems so cheap.

There are many 9mm revolvers on the market.

    https://www.google.co.th/search?q=ruger+9mm+revolver&client=firefox-a&hs=bam&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=XRRtUq3jHIWtrAf9jYDgDA&ved=0CEMQsAQ&biw=1024&bih=629

Don't 9mm revolvers require rimmed ammunition that is generally cut down / modified to fit. The cases at the scene of this crime were all rimless therefore an automatic was used.

As for knowing the firearm in this case was modified. I guess the firing pin signiture on the precussion cap and extractor markings on the cases may tell them something.

  13. What i found strange is that the rounds they shown on TV last evening both where flatten. They also lay far apart from each other, about 3 to 4 meter. If this are the rounds the criminals used to kill the guy or only thrown on the ground for bringing the police on a wrong leg.

Spent cases flatten quite easily when run over by vehicles on a road. I doubt they threw 'jack' cases at the scene to fool police. That would be near impossible considering that if so, they would need to be catching all the ejected cases coming out as gunman was firing. All this on the back of a scooby.

  14. The article said "bullets". It didn't mention casings.

How different would the slugs be from the different variations?

Yes. They recovered bullets from the body. However they do also have the casings that were left at the crime scene.

I am no ballistics expert but I am sure that the projectiles from different ammo manufactuers would be quite noticably different to a Forensic Ballistics lab/ expert.

I also believe that in some instances forensics can pick the difference in projectiles between batches of the same ammo.

  15. The gun was modified from 7.65 which is .32 cal to take 9mm ammo. Why ? 9mm ammo is much more available and heaps cheaper in Thailand than .32 cal. Much more effective as well. Something similar to this Makarov Izh 71

More pics of Makarovs here from prototype 1947 to first production in 1949 all the way to 1965 model.
