  1. As the topic was not WD40 I may say you should never spray a mobile phone with it after giving the phone a one hour bath in a washing machine. The phone works OK but the big bubble of wd40 really makes the display hard to read.

Aaaaaaaah, but, if he had a snort measure of Coka Cola the story could be a wee bit different eh. smile.png
  2. The need for an IDP to accompany the UK license has been discussed on here before and I believe more people think an IDP is not required. However you can only drive on the UK license for a period of 6 months (again some people disagree and say up to 3 months) then a Thai license is required.

It is normal here for the car to be insured, not the driver, either for any valid driver or named drivers, when a discount is given, but please read the small print on the policy as some insurance companies state that a Thai driving license is required to be covered.

Not a problem for day to day driving but if you are unlucky enough to have a major accident insurance companies have been known to use any loophole to avoid paying out.

Looking forward to the fine print in which an insurance company states a Thai driving license is required.

DO NOT assume anything in LOS. OP, contact insurance company. thumbsup.gif
  3. I never lift the hood but have seen taxi drivers tend to do it a lot. I think they lift the hood to cool the engine and also extend the life of the rubber hoses and other parts of the car engine. I don't think there is any benefit in cooling the engine block itself.

Surely it goes a bit further than there being no benefit in cooling the engine block itself. Surely it is of a detriment to cool the engine block. Engine block runs most efficiently when they are hot. Cooling them down so as to help save rubber hoses and other auxiliary components seems a bit daft.

Exception of course is if the car has a problem with over-heating. But as i say, in my neighbourhood the people that do this hood raising thing aren't the people running ten year old ragged taxis, they are people with brand new cars who don't travel very far. Seems silly to me.

I do it when home as ''perhaps'' a battery longevity exercise. smile.png
  4. if you want a girl half your age why would you do anything other than pay her salary monthly like you would the maid?

    indeed

even bigger question to ask, if you have girl half your age how can even you fool yourself that it be true love!??

    Think thats another topic. rolleyes.gif
  5. Sounds fair to me, apart from the weird rules on sick leave.

Basically 15 two-day paid sick leaves can be taken per year, without the need for any piece of paper.

No paper needed means it's just paid holidays.

Where is the employer protected here? Can he send over a control doctor?

I'd rather see them get a 5 day working week, and get rid if a sick leave system wide open to abuse.

Sent from my GT-I9001 using Thaivisa Connect App

More or less the same rules as UK. wai2.gif
  6. If you can't keep yourself busy, bluie, you have no business living in Isan. Simple as that.

    I'm not busy. smile.png

At last a sound reply. I never understood why people would come to live here and be so busy all the time that they don't even have time for a walk. Surely stress is not good but stress in 32C temperature is really bad.

Yes, indeed, Tanaka, a walk is a necessity for most people to keep themselves reasonably fit. I walk for two hours or more a day.... and call that part of keeping busy. Being busy doesn't have to be stressful.

Wow, you walk 2 hours a day, every day on or near Thai roads, hmmmmm, think your life expectancy really has taken a dive unless you walk around with a flashing light on your head or walk in front of an elephant. w00t.gif ...............................smile.png
  7. Is there a "sweet spot" to try and drill into the tiles (have not done this), or can you just go through any spot you'd like?

I will choose the centre of a tile. I usually pin punch a small indentation before drilling on the wall or tile.

    http://en.wikipedia....ki/Punch_(tool)

Do NOT use a punch, it will crack a tile. Put masking tape where you want the hole and mark the spot with a X. Put small drill on the X at slow speed until it breaks through the hard finish. Replace the drill with correct size and go for it. thumbsup.gif

  8. Probably not going to buy one but if I did it would be the turbo but I am disappointed it only comes in leather. Why anyone would chose leather in a stick-to-your-back tropical climate escapes me.

Leather is not really an issue in an airconditioned car... wink.png And it is just as fresh as any other material.

Get in a hot ride and you stick to leather. Standing outside the ride waiting for the aircon to cool the seat off is not my idea of fun. bah.gif
