  1. This reflects the large volume of flood water expected to reach Bangkok later this week, which is likely to disrupt transport, close tourist attractions and may affect electricity and water supplies.

The Government of Thailand has announced a public holiday in all flood-affected areas, including the city of Bangkok, to run from 27 to 31 October. Some services may not be available during this period.

We are advising British nationals already in Thailand to exercise caution and follow the advice of the local authorities if the area that they are in is flooded. The FCO will also keep its travel advice under constant review

  2. Britain warns against travel to flood-threatened Bangkok

LONDON, October 26, 2011 (AFP) - Britain on Wednesday urged against all but essential travel to Bangkok as the Thai capital braced itself for severe floods.

Britain's Foreign Office also warned against travel to the twenty-six provinces in Thailand currently affected by widespread flooding.

A huge runoff from the north equivalent to 480,000 Olympic swimming pools is expected to reach the capital at the same time as seasonal high tides, the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said Wednesday.

Britain's foreign ministry advised nationals already in Bangkok to exercise caution and keep up to date with local developments.

The Thai government has ordered a five-day holiday from Thursday for 21 provinces including Bangkok, to allow the city's residents to prepare for the inundation or leave.

You're obsession with the Daily Mail is beginning to grow on me.

i get the pm more now ....

people only make things out to what that make it to be in thier own eyes ....

as this is not OTB, lets try to keep it all on topic

but i agree with one poster, this could be some PR stunt for her to be in the next big brother, xfactor ect ect , maybe even jeremy Kyle wannabe, but the facts still remain unclear and hopelfully Andrew Drummond shall report further

  5. Last week, I was visiting a bar on Soi 6. I asked the waitress how things were going.

She mentioned there were quite a few underage girls working in the bars.

The problem was the bars with the young girls must pay the police more.

not to mention all the Child Porn before walking Street ..... , i even once complained to the Tourist Police who mentioned NOTHING can be done to stop it, as it was only a 200 THB fine !

  6. TAT have stopped compiling accurate figures, if any at all, if they do it's a very well kept secret. Like the statement the tourism minister issued a while ago, floods will not affect tourism.

that 'splains why I can never find 'em then.

Is this a new and sneaky policy? Usually they just lie about it and make 'em up . . . probably cos there's a 'no fail' entrance test for a job at TAT.

    http://www.immigrati...e.php?page=stat

Anyone care to translate it for us . . . it's all written in Squiggly.

    R

if you curse over the squiggly bits, there are excel sheets showing tourist stats from many years back, upto 2008 ....

  7. somthing doesnt add up here at all, also they are not mentioning which page was missing, her previous thai stamps?

    also

Despite the best efforts of her family to get her out, Ms Salt was told that she would be deported back to Indonesia and jailed there for at least two weeks.

There her family would be expected to pay for a translator and local lawyer.

why would they fly her back there, plus why would she be locked up in that country????? .....

  8. A young Englishwoman was thrown into a squalid Thai jail cell and threatened with deportation, just because a page was missing from her passport.

Francesca Salt, from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, was held for 30 hours in an immigration detention centre, where she was forced to bribe guards for food.

'It was horrific,' said Miss Salt. 'I had to finance my stay in a "cell" I shared with immigrants of all countries of both sexes, and the corruption was shocking.

article-0-0E8013A700000578-581_468x583.jpg Ordeal: Francesca Salt, 22, was thrown into a Thai jail cell for 30 hours because her passport was missing a page

'I had to pay the guards for something to eat as the food offered was inedible.'

Miss Salt, 22, had been working in Thailand as an English teacher when, as she returned from a fortnight trip to Indonesia, she was stopped by immigration.

When officers found a page of her passport missing, they frog-marched her to an overcrowded, mixed cell in the airport's detention centre.

'I was held in the retention centre with other would-be immigrants, where I was searched and left for 30 hours,' Miss Salt told the Daily Mail.

  9. Check post # 9 & # 11 Here.

didnt they quote before Don Muang wouldnt flood, as well as the city? , i wouldnt be at all surprised if swampy did start to flood ....

If you look at the news section, you can see how many departments are issuing conflicting information.

which one to beleive ? , it should be a central burea realising all the info so it stays acurate

  10. i dont think samui immigration convert visa's, but i might be wrong, but i beleive these need to be done in a thai embassey , maybe penang? , or hull?

looking at your posts, you plan to enter thailand in 2 weeks, marry in Jan, and leave in May, maybe best to just get a tourist visa from hull ? , that will give you 90 days, then you can extend again? , might be less hassle if you dont intend to stay in thailand ..........

  11. The only bottled water they had at swampy airport today was Evian which costs 45 baht for 300ml. I evacuated from rangsit unversity today, the 7/11s and family marts there had built concrete and sandbag walls out the front and then closed. That was a sign that it was time to go.

doesnt look like there are any foundations ????? .... this wall will just collaspe under the pressure of the water

  12. Thank you TheMrs!!! i will get on to them first thing in the morning!

let me know how you get on, but looking at the sites, are are all bout violent and sexual abusie... i dont think they would have the resourses to take up you complaint, but please do let us know

    good luck

  13. up 2 u

    No,no,no.......Up 2 U!

Look at his nick name... he was obviously dreaming... forgot to tell us about the concept he was dreaming of :D

Shame they don't do paper lanterns fuelled by a petrol candle on the banks of Lake Geneva too.

Maybe it's down to the weather?

Maybe it's because Northern Europe struggles with the Thai in the same way that the US or the French didn't have a clue about IndoChina.

Educated comments appreciated. I'm tired of farangs blaming the Isaan woman for taking his money.

  14. nothing you can do i am afriad, i have seen enough to warrent calling Social Services maybe 100 times if there was one ....

they do have a child protection unit, but i beleive this is only for trafficked children, and children subject to Serious violent and sexual abuse..

  15. Thais cannot get together on the spelling of a location.

Imagine their thought process for disasters!

I know for a FACT that ALL THAIS have known this was coming. For the last ten years farang have heard that Bangkok would be under water in ten years.

Nothing but laughs whenever I asked what preventive measures were being taken.

Sand bags DO NOT STOP MAJOR FLOODS I told them...and they laughed again.

i posted in another topic, but if you read the wikileak cables from the US embassey, they predicted this lst year !

  16. The prime minister stressed that all residents should move their belongings to higher ground in preparation for a worst case scenario if flood barriers collapse.

Under such circumstances, the government will do its best to protect electricity and water distribution systems to make sure service is not disrupted.

However, if residents feel they would like to return to their home provinces or would like to leave Bangkok, the Transport and Interior ministries will facilitate flood victims who would like to relocate, either home or to provincial evacuation centers

Is this her way of saying get out before it's too late?

    i think it is .....

even if there is a risk of 1.5 mtre flooding, they should evacuate now !!!! , how will they get the masses out or delever food and water to these people when the floods hit !
