Using ChatGPT? It might make you stupid, study finds
ukrules replied to Rimmer's topic in Off the beaten track
Yes, I use it. It's very useful. I never did use the free version, I went straight in with the paid tier so I have nothing to compare it to - been using it and a couple of other paid services for a few years now. I've used them since they got better at providing results than google for specific types of questions. I don't use it to think for me, I ask it very specific technical questions and it provides answers, not always correct but mostly correct. The thing is, I'm smart enough to know when it's talking rubbish and point it out and the response is typically 'You're right to point that out, here is a reviewed answer' or something like that. But I generally know what I'm talking about when using it - I'm just asking for details on something very specific like a linux commands parameter format or a database structure inside a well known open source system and how one thing relates to another inside the system in the databases, etc, even if I know little about that system I can very quickly determine if it's wrong and tell it so - then it will come back with a corrected answer. Sometimes with technical questions like this it may be referring to an older or newer version of whatever it is I'm using so it's not entirely wrong - just wrong for my specific use case. Now if I'm looking for something very specific that is more suited to a keyword search I will use google. Just knowing the difference between these 2 type of search / query is half the job. -

Politics Leaked Call Stirs Tensions Between Thai and Cambodian Leaders
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Exactly, urgent government business you see. Where there's a will, there's a way. -
Many times I've come across these badly worded signs - they nearly all say 'Buy 1, Get 1' - I sarcastically said to the Mrs that I always get 1 when I buy 1 so what's the big offer 🤣

Politics Leaked Call Stirs Tensions Between Thai and Cambodian Leaders
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Only Thaksin himself can sort this mess out, what's the odds he leaves the country for Cambodia in the next couple of weeks on an emergency mission to save the day? -
Foreigner Tax Requirements
ukrules replied to PatThaiM's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Nothing about the 'reversal' has changed yet. Until it's published in the Gazette it's just civil service waffle. When it gets published it will be major news. -
These people are earning far more money in Thailand than they can do back home in Cambodia and most of them literally won't give a crap about some border dispute that their lords and masters have. I'm in Phnom Penh now with the Mrs and she often speaks to Tuk Tuk drivers and other Cambodians who can speak Thai because they learned it long ago while doing such work. They were very happy with the outcome of their time spent in Thailand and the extra money they earned allowed them to purchase tuk tuks, open small businesses, etc, etc. There will be no exodus no matter what happens.

Tinted windows, I know nothing, please help
ukrules replied to Keith5588's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I had the same issue when buying a car - they wanted me to have a tint so dark I wouldn't be able to see through it Coming from the UK I don't generally need a tint of any kind really and simply turn the AC on if I want the car cool so I insisted on the minimum - this guy really did not want to sell me the car without the maximum tint but I insisted as I could hardly see through it in the day and there's nothing wrong with my eyes - no wonder they're killing each other on the roads every day. I'm still not entirely sure he didn't ramp it up a notch on the order before delivering - still I've had this car for some time now (10 years or so) and it's ok but could do with being a shade lighter. I often drive in the evening as well, a lot more than during the daytime. -
Report Cambodia Threatens Action Amid Rising Tensions with Thailand
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
I'm in Phnom Penh right now and can confirm that the Mrs was watching the Thai 'Channel 3' earlier today and then it suddenly went offline with a 'No Signal' error. She then went shopping for an hour or two and when she returned Channel 3 had been replaced by some Chinese TV station on the same 'channel number'. Also my 'Cellcard' internet service is very bad today but the apartment internet is good.... lol -
The fact is you can be walking down the street and some random psycho or a group of them can attack you and you're expected to pay the resulting bills. This sounds like a crime problem to me. Another thing that annoys me is when someone is knocked off a bike or run over while crossing the road - the driver flees and the foreigner therefore must pay millions of Baht or die. Zero accountability.

Report it to facebook and get them banned - they will act - also how did you pay, was it through facebook or some direct payment and also where is the recipient based (what country) ?

Report Thailand Tightens Grip on Retirement Visas Amid Wealth Shift
ukrules replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
Indeed, especially as the Royal Decree has not been published. The first time you will read the Royal Decree is when it's published in the Gazette unless I'm mistaken - they are kept secret for some very good reasons. Just realised that you're talking about the LTR visa Royal Decree aren't you - and yes that was never clear - but despite having plenty of money it would be difficult for me to get one of those as I refuse to invest in places which offer only a derisory return on investment, ie - Thailand. -
US plans remittance taxation

I heard it only applies to people who are physically inside the US at the time of the transfer and has been criticised by many due to this being a huge gaping loophole. -
Report Cambodia Masses 12,000 Soldiers at Thai Border Amid Tensions
ukrules replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
So the military have 'taken over' the running / management of the border but have they closed it and which border crossings or is it all of them?
