Cambodia 'E' visa for Thai nationals
So, update on this. We both applied for and received e-visas 30 day E-Type - the one you can extend and arrived in the new Phnom Penh airport Immigration was empty, I went first and the Mrs heard one of the people hanging around say Thai and she looked around to see him pointing at her. What came next should be considered a warning for anyone considering visiting Cambodia with a Thai national for more than a short period of time. I got my 30 day stamp as expected, they told her she could only get 14 days entry because the E type visa is for people who have jobs in Cambodia - this is pure nonsense, she can do whatever she wants, her intent at the point of entry is none of their business. She is essentially a housewife My point here is - they are targeting Thai nationals entering on valid visas issued directly by the central government in Cambodia through the official e-visa portal when they land at the airport and it doesn't matter if they get a 100% valid visa or not - they took a couple of extra days to process her visa than mine, I suspect they were vetting her - had she failed whatever process they have in place then she would have been denied the visa - which would have been fine - we would simply go somewhere else - but they granted both our visas through the government website and targeted her at immigration. Now I very much doubt this is in any way an official policy - but that's it - she's had enough - so we're leaving and will never go back to Cambodia. They also completely <deleted> up the visa 'stamp' that they did issue which is a kind of QR code label and ended up granting her about 2 months of entry instead of the expected visa stipulated 30 days or 14 days which they said "accept 14 days or she will be denied entry" - all while having a valid government issued visa in her hand. So, I'm sounding the alarm here - the gloves are off - if you're a Thai - don't go to Cambodia and expect to stay there for more than 14 days - which is what you get if you turn up without a visa - because at least some of the officials at the airport are overriding the Government Ministries decision to issue visas - this means it's a free for all when you land and they are definitely targeting Thai people. I will be spreading this word far and wide but not until we have left Cambodia and we are definitely leaving, nothing will fix this. She was already apprehensive because of potential 'hate' but I talked her around and said lets give it a go for a few weeks and feel the situation out before making any rash decisions. Didn't even make it past the airport without an anti Thai hate incident by the one who appeared to be calling the shots, so we're out...and soon.

Proof of Address for Wise
Altering the address on a bank account into English is a pretty easy thing to do at Kasikorn, not sure about other addresses and it's absolutely enough to prove address in Thailand.

UK digital ID cards - how would it affect expats in Thailand?
All Thais have ID cards and have done for decades, many decades, apparently they issue them to kids when they're 7 year olds now - you live here right - must be a nightmare for you?

Thai Airways Ditches First Class in Major Cabin Overhaul
From what I heard it's pretty much empty most of the time. I'll find out next week when I fly. I know from seat selection that it was half full when I booked - all the window seats were already reserved - so I'm gonna be pissed off if there's not people in them when I get on board. They added it back in on 3 planes apparently, that's it - 8 seats per plane on just 3 planes. Failed experiment? Many airlines are abandoning first class for some reason - I guess they want the extra space to fit in like 1 more business class seats. The middle eastern airlines have decimated the long haul industry - which is kind of surprising - who wants to sit in Dubai or some other place in the middle of the night for multiple hours waiting for a connection when you could be flying direct? Penny pinchers, that's who.

Thai Senate Sends Casino Plan Packing, Cites High Risks
Now watch the Cambodia 'problem' literally disappear overnight. It was never about borders, they were scared witless that Thailand would build the next Macao and destroy the economy - this is just my personal opinion about revenue sources in Cambodia - it's the Chinese - and they would go to Thailand over Cambodia any day - simply due to the sheer number of flights / convenience of flying into Bangkok. You'll probably all downvote this but I don't care - this is THE issue.

Thai Airways Ditches First Class in Major Cabin Overhaul
Well yeah but I found a way around that as I am not based in London and it's far easier to get to Birmingham where the Lufthansa out of BHX -> Munich connection has a 90 minute layover - so I'm arriving in the UK at LHR and departing from BHX. Problem solved. Buy you're right - it's Business only - I'll put up with that for the overnight option. I have things to do the next day - so one night in BKK and then the next day off to the airport (again🙄) and then back to Cambodia for me for the rest of the year! I did a lot of digging on this one with no expense spared as it is also like someone else mentioned due to a death in the family - one of my parents.

Thai Airways Ditches First Class in Major Cabin Overhaul
Indeed, I booked a nice seat with Thai departing within the next week, not my first choice but I wanted an overnight flight - this fits my choice of schedule so I went with Thai. Their late night departure at 00:45 fits the bill perfectly and that's why they got my business. One way, first class. In order to get an overnight flight on the way back to BKK I had to book with another airline so I chose Lufthansa Business via Munich on the way back. Older plane and no new 'Allegris' option on that flight at this time of the year - also no first class available at all. So I chose both airlines simply because the flight timings are convenient for me and I like to avoid long layovers in places like Dubai as they happen in the middle of the night and last hours which is a pain. Also they're off route and the flying time is increased on those airlines. I could have done a return with Thai but I really didn't fancy flying at noon from London and being awake all day long on the long flight. At least the long haul part with Lufthansa will be overnight and slightly shorter as it's kind of on the way from the UK to Thailand

Import Tax - 100% on personal clothes
It's a rip off / shake down and entirely within the law - you either pay it or forfeit the package. Also makes it hard to understand why Thai government expressed concern at the US removing the 'de minimis' allowance of $800 per package - tax free into the US when they rip everyone off as much as they can if someone orders from abroad regardless of where it comes from.

Digital Transfers Suspended Amid Mule Account Crackdown
I'm still using my debit card without issue, booked a nice fancy flight to London, just over 160,000 Baht, had to increase the limit from 100k Baht to 200k Baht but it worked just fine, booked it one day last week. I use Kasikorn. My Mrs who is Thai on the other hand and also has a Kasikorn among other accounts is stuck on 50k limits and I'm pretty sure I know why - it's because the millions of Baht I've spent this year all went through my Kasikorn account - hers is for housekeeping expenses, shopping, bill payment, etc so the 50k limit matches her account usage pattern.

Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
This is the bit they will come for - it won't be large but it effectively bring people into the tax net in theory. Because £12,570 is about 530,000 and Thai taxes kick in for many people (depending on age) at these rates : 0 to 150,000 - Exempt 150,001 to 300,000 - 5% 300,001 to 500,000 - 10% 500,001 to 750,000 - 15% So with only the basic tax free allowance in the UK - which means it is untaxed funds you already bust your way slightly into the 15% band and that's before you send anything else as lets face it 530k Bath isn't much for a year. How do they treat it if you send another 15k GBP each year - money that is taxed - is the amount of tax applied to the entire payment or just per band ? Thai tax tangle: Expats warned of new rules on overseas income
I believe this depends on whether the proposed Royal Decree was completed and submitted to the "Council of State" and how far along that is in completion. Did the previous administration even vote on it and submit it - who knows? It's possible they did but they don't announce this. The entire process appears to happen in the background and it's not announced, only successfully approved royal decrees are announced in the Gazette.
