  1. Probably for the same reason that few people buy a new pickup for ฿400k, we have one and it is great transport and load carrying but great it is not. your $200 will get an android phone, as to it being great we clearly have different definitions of “great”, but the majority prefer the Apple ecosystem
  2. As I posted my question to @Wanderer555 I thought it would be obvious that I am in Issan within reach of Udon and Khon Kaen, but maybe not so apparent. So while academically interesting knowing that they are available in Bangkok and they may well have connections for supply in the northeast it is probable that @Wanderer555 may have direct knowledge for udon
  3. While the gate’s motors are indeed quite high consumers, unless you are opening and closing the gate very often, the actual power usage is minimal as they are probably using less than 1~2 units per month.
  4. You were in a rather unusual situation. The majority of people are quite close to a PEA supply. For us it was so much so that while we had a temporary PEA supply we also had a direct supply from our neighbour (we paid the full bill) so the vast majority of our build was using the standard rate. When we swapped from the temporary supply to the permanent one it was just a case of arranging for a PEA visit so days or at most a week or 2
  5. I rather suspect that no lubricant will actually work as the metal nut has ribs designed to bite into the drilled hole.
  6. Would you like to give the address & have you located a source for CO2 bottles?
  7. It is actually shared neutrals, the phrase “mixed neutrals” AFIK is semantically meaningless, though I can’t think of a situation where it would be scary. The regulations regarding electricity wiring are generally specific to a wiring scheme so grabbing bits hear and there without understanding exactly why they are as they are can be a poor idea.
  8. The general guide is that MCB’s protect the wiring, so you can go lower than the suggested size but there is no particular point to doing that. RCCB’s while protecting the wiring also protect (in most cases) the people. multiple RCCB’s can make isolating a fault easier but shared neutrals can make a lecky’s life a nightmare. Multiple circuits can allow a greater load in a single room and if a fault happens only a single circuit is likely to be effected. I probably have many more circuits in my workshop than is necessary but I have extreme flexibility in citing tools None of the above addresses the fact that probably most MCB’s in domestic use in Thailand are type C and they should be type B
  9. If you look at the cost for a pre-made glazing unit and frame in the west as opposed to a custom sized frame and glazing and look at the wages / prices of items. Then the west has units available that are cheap, almost certainly cheaper than an equivalent single glazed unit in Thailand, and in any event as a percentage of a build cost they are cheap than an equivalent in Thailand. Companies in Thailand will virtually never tell you how to get products they don’t have Just because 2 builders didn’t know how or where to get something only means that they don’t know. That they lied to you doesn’t make it true. In general in Thailand if you want something unusual you have to find it yourself and asking shops/builders will not get the answers. You can get the items, you have to do the research, you have to contact the manufacturer/importer. If you don’t want the bother, it isn’t easy, accept the locally available options.
  10. We have just been priming both new render and old pained concrete. Our specialty paint shop recommendation for both is this. it is oil based but can be over painted by either oil or water based paints. https://www.to-paints.com/product/2490/delta-toptech-primer-สีรองพื้นปูนพิเศษ-ท็อปเทค-สุตรน้ำมัน
  11. That is completely your choice, and your comfort is your choice, but just because it will never be yours should only be one factor. How valuable is your comfort? However complaining that building methods or items are not available in Thailand is completely false. Virtually every method and item is available. The problem is that different methods and materials are common in Thailand and so are available cheaply, uncommon methods and materials are available but are considerably more expensive. The west uses double and triple glazing and standardised sizes so it is cheap, Thailand doesn’t, so it isn’t.
  12. If you are saying that your build has to be cheap then you cannot have what you want. There is grey Low-E glass it can be (I have it) built into custom sized IGUs (I have them) it is not cheap. To have sound control you must correctly seal the building and install correct windows and doors (I have them) It Is Not Cheap nor is it easy You can get hollow core concrete planks of any length (within reason) they are not cheap. You can get concrete slabs as wide and long as you can pay for, just look at shopping centres, building like that is not cheap. Our main room is 6.7 meters x 7.6 metres with no pillars, it is always 5~8 degrees cooler than outside with the AC not running
  13. Actually your comment shows that you have rather less knowledge than you think you have. Grades of stainless steel that are magnetic are not significantly cheaper than non magnetic ones more are they less “good”. They maybe not suitable for a particular purpose, but that only means that you use a different alloy.
  14. If you scroll down there are a number of cable reel under
  15. Well the Chinese often do not use anything resembling correct English on the Lazada and AliExpress websites, so my only advantage is having lived in non native English speaking countries for the last 3 decades! But then just to ensure you don’t get complacent some use better English than 90% of English speakers ????
  16. Your Lazada Fuu is remarkably weak, it took me 30 seconds to find this also any competent welder can make one up in a short time.
  17. The threads are not tapped into the frame and you would not be able to do that anyway as the tube wall thickness is far too thin. The original nuts (they aren’t nuts)are placed from outside the tube and riveted in (though that may sound rather confusing). This means that you can only fit new mounting points this way. To get these fitted you probably need a car body shop or small machine shop, but they must have the screw rivet tool for you to have any success or you can buy a screw rivet tool, Your only other options are to use the already installed captive nuts or use Jubilee Clips in some way.
  18. Interesting comment, specially since the FT just dropped, admittedly not by much from .94… to .91.. and the commercial FT rate dropped from domestic +50% to parity with the domestic rate. So maybe I don’t understand how price increases work. Or maybe Thailand is actually special ????????
  19. The getting oversized over priced places built is nothing new and is not restricted to Thai girls getting their foreign partners to build for them. I personally know of 2 places built by totally Thai families that easily fit the profile
  20. But not to that content!
  21. Both of those are a bodge job. you should make a template out of MDF and use that after using a jigsaw to clear the largest part out. I hope they don’t make a dog’s dinner of the job FWIW the granite guys did an acceptable job, but on overlay items.
  22. The standard is a flush trim or pattern bit they are available with top bearings (easy to find) bottom bearings (big bit small shank) and dual bearings. you can put the template on the surface (easy) or underneath (not so easy) While you can use a rabbiting bit with different bearings like these you will not find them in Thailand and they are almost certainly a poor choice for the job.
  23. No food items from the online store
  24. So only 12,500 km away, that rather lets me out doesn’t it?
  25. Our inside temperature is almost always 4~6 degrees and 20~30% lower humidity as we don’t leave the window open, so the fans are remarkably effective.
