  1. Very sorry to hear about your wife , I hope she can recover quickly ,

Firstly , you cannot have someone expelled from thailand. The person has to commit a crime that warrants deportation, then subsequent refusal entry into thailand again.

The deportation of a criminal can only be enforced by the chief of police

Also, i would seriously not consider the other suggestions as this may only get you into a lot more trouble than you bargained for .... it's not worth jail or whatever

I would try to coax this guy into having a meeting with you and make sure you have a BIB present.

Then you need to go through each step point by point and find out why this guy is such an asshol_e to your wife... find out what his problem is... !!

If you have success to clear up why he's such a <deleted> , then I would request a fairly substancial compensation , and I would have the BIB put pressure on this guy so much so that he will comply in the end. If you need 2-3 meetings then so be it ... but I believe this is the route to go !!!

Then after the compensation is paid at the final meeting and the BIB has requested he not go anywhere near your wife or he will be arrested immediately .....

Then i would knock him arse over ....

    Just my opinion !!! :)

    cheers.

  2. Hi all ,

I am a bit confused on this whole marriage thing and need some advice and confirmation.

If you are from the UK , you can go to Vietnam and complete the paperwork for marriage with a Thai.

However , as an Australian (australian passport holder)this is not possible so what are the other options ?

I heard that NZ accepts or recognises gay marriages ? If this is correct can an Aussie and a Thai fly to NZ to marry ?

or if Australia does not accept or recognise gay marriage then flying to NZ would be useless as it all depends on what passport you have and if that home country accepts or recognises gay marriage ? is that statement correct ?

What about applying for a UK passport , then do the Vietnam thing. ( this maybe difficult ) ????

We do want to get married , ( Complete paperwork & certification ) but I don't know if it is possible.

I really appreciate any help or advice ... :)

    Cheers.

  3. I am contemplating going to Hanoi tomorrow to apply for a tourist Visa as that seems to be the cheapest air ticket with Air Asia.

If I go to KL I'm looking at Baht8-9K .... so I am thinking Hanoi maybe the go.

I could also just do a border run & then fly in a couple of weeks to KL as it will be less cost ?

Is the Hanoi a good idea ?

What else do you suggest ? Kota Buhru sounds ok but there are no direct flights there from BKK.

    Any advise appreciated ...

    cheers, :)

  4. Hope he gets better soon.

I think there might be more to this than meets the eye. It's a pretty decent upmarket Soi and never known any violence there really. A lot of Japanese who generally don't cause a scene which begs the question why they need thug bouncers on soi 31 at a japanese only Karaoke....

It may have been the way it was said or the tone or the words used I feel. As most Thai's even the thug bouncers will move out the way with a polite excuse me in english or Thai.

It should still never have happened I just feel the full story has not been given by the guy or the wife.

Bearing in mind they were angry enough to stab a foreigner in the middle of a busy soi at the busiest time of day in full view of the PM's army security and a bunch of cops....

Agree, as I read this it seems to me that there is something missing. I can only assume that your friend said something out of place to infuriate the bouncers. Why would they really attack just based on asking them to step aside. ? Also why did your friend ask them to move anyway, this request does not seem right given what you have explained. If walking down the footpath and it is blocked anywhere on Sukhumvit , you would normally not request the blocking party to step aside , you would exit to the road , pass the obstruction and then re-enter the footpath once safe to do so.

I certainly hope your friend makes a speedy recovery and this type of action is unacceptable , however I keep thinking this is thailand , for the most part the people are friendly enough and I don't know what would warrant such behaviour.

The BiB will eventually get there man, just wait a few days and he will come out.

    GL :)

  5. Dantilley: I'll be happy to try to get there by bus -- I'll send you a trip report in early October. May not be as bad as you think.

    Cheers,

I quite often take the bus from Mor Chit BTS to Chaengwattana Road if I am not in the car. It's easy and cheap although the number 52 can be a bit slow and hot at times.

Another option is the train, a local train from Hua Lamphong to Laksi takes 40 minutes and costs 4 baht, follow that with a 10 baht motorbike taxi to the new immigration office and it's a pretty cheap trip!

Gippy , I used to get that train to Laksi in the morning however I forget the exact time ....

Do you recall the departure time ??

    Cheers. :)

  6. hello guys

i read and read and read all topics about what happen in penang, and also in vientiane, where is the true ?????

can anyone tell if it is possible for everyone to get a tourist visa somewhere.

Simple question = simple answer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

after that, can we create a group on faceboook asking for a new regulation rules about thes tourist visas ( i live in thailand since 5 years on btb tourist visas).................. and have never any problems, just pay, ahahhhahahah

The government has clamped down on back to back Tourist Visas as previously indicated and as such the best option may possibly be to apply outside asia , eg; Australia , Europe etc ...

  7. Hi guy's & girls :D I'm in need of some R&R from been in Pattaya & i have never been to Kho Samet. Looking at going next week for around 2/3days & was wondering which beach is the best & can you recomend any good, quiet hotels for around 1000 baht per night?? I'm going with my tee rak so want quiet hotel but not too far to walk to a nice bar/resturant maybe with live music if they have any there?? Cheers :)

Hi Sipidan , just for your information ... there is a thread titled "Koh Samet Getting Worse ?"

So please feel free to read some of the comments on Koh Samet on this thread.

Your situation is a bit different as you want a hotel for around 1000 baht a night .. which is about $29.

I don't think you would get much for that but you never know.

    cheers :D

  8. steven100,

did you post where you stayed on Samet? (sorry if I missed it)

I've always stayed on the Ao Prao side - a bit more quiet and then you can just ride into town if you want to party and come back to the quiet when you want... There are just a few resorts on that side of the island but I always stay the same one (I can PM you the name if you'd like). This is from their website (#2 and #3 lol):

"Prohibition (It's not allowed bring to resort)

    1. Don't bring any types of alcohol to resort.

    2. Don't bring guitar to resort.

    3. Don't bring a dog to resort.

    4. Don't bring any fresh food to resort."

At some times of the year some really weird shit washes up on the beach which is freaky but TIT. As for the island itself, yes unfortunately I'd agree that it has gone downhill over the past 7-8 years in which I've been going - sad. Its seems to be the case everywhere in Thailand.... I truthfully cannot recall any place in Thailand that is better now than it was when I first went there.... (well Kao Yai I've always enjoyed).

    hi jcon ,

The place we stayed was the Sea Horse resort on Von Duen beach ... Did you stay at Lima coco I think it's called ?

It's a bit of a shame ... Koh Samet could be a world class island if it had have been managed correctly , I have been there many times but I think this trip will be my last. They even charge 10 baht to get you from the boat to the beach ( about 200m ) It's not the 10 baht ...it's just the principal.

As someone mentioned in an earlier post ... the rooms are smelly .... broken down ... old facilities ... poor service ... crap food .... bla bla ...& the list goes on.

I know the Ao Prao side is much better & at least resembles a resort area !!

    cheers :)

  9. Hi all , I'd be interested to hear from anyone else who has an opinion on Koh Samet ..

Just got back from Koh Samet , there were a group of us that stayed two nights there.

I just want to make mention regarding how the standard of service has depreciated over the past as well as room maintenance and the place in general.

Where we stayed , the lady was only interested in her money !! that's all... we paid the cash ..(bht6,500)..went to the room and as usual , the shower head sprayed more water on the door & walls than on me , the electrical sockets were broken, not one towel rail in the room or the bathroom so I don't know where they expect you to hang a towel out. ( except outside there was two broken wooden racks).

The small round concrete BBQ cooker we had out the front was as old as me and no ash tray.

Anyway , the list goes on ...

They just do not care about spending one cent on upkeep & replacement ...

Also, I noticed at the bars and when ordering food the service & food left a lot to be desired.

The prices are getting up around western & european prices but the infrustructure & service is getting worse. I think a change is eminant next time.

    Cheers :)

    ----------------------------------------

Steven.. in my personal opinion you do not seem to be a big spender your self!! So why should the rentlady be one.. it is not fair really.

For 500 baht, what do you expect, a bargain??? No.. you get shit on koh Samet.

Next time, give yourself a chance of a great stay, save some money before you go, and book a room for, let say 1.500-2.000 baht with a A/C, And relax, the beach is great and the water is beutiful.

    Good luck

    Glegolo

Glegolo.. sorry i don't get the meaning of your post.

The room cost 6500 Baht as i indicated .. how did you get 500 Baht ?

Also , as for not a big spender ...maybe i'm not but i did spend around 20000 Baht that weekend.

As i mentioned & as posted by others ..Koh Samet is depreciating so far as facilities, upkeep, service, food etc... pls name anything that has improved !!

    Cheers :D

  10. Ive seen a lot of the small electronic Thai / English talking dictionaries about for sale, does any one know if its possible to buy some software that you could install onto a laptop computer , which would do the same thing as the small electronic Thai / English talking dictionaries

Any Ideas , thoughts or comments Please

    Thanks

    TL :)

I am not aware of any software or program you can install , however you can buy the actual Thai-Eng dictionary CD's.

It's called Visual Dictionary , & I think there are about 10 Volumes.

    I have Vol 1 & 2 .

They are quite good for learning thai as you can start at the basic or higher for the more experienced.

There is a continued visual with pictures of animated characters speaking in English... and then the thai translation.

They are available at many stores including Pantip Plaza & I see them for sale at On-Nut BTS on Saturday.

    cheers.

  11. Well it seems that most comments on the forum agree with my original remarks about Koh Samet ..

    a) rooms over priced

    b)rooms are not maintained

    c) facilities generally gone down hill

    d) service is terrible

    e) food is very much below expectation

I can only reinterate my experiences on going to Koh Samet many times.

If you disagree ... please name one thing there that has improved ??

The defence rests your honour !!

    Cheers :)

  13. Hi all ,

I have eaten at every Mexican restaurant in Bangkok.

I agree , there is not one restaurant that can be considered as " good authentic mexican food "

Senor Pico - Good food overall but this is a bit expensive & caters for more upmarket dining.

Tacos & Salsa - Not to bad although the beef & food generally is very bland.

Sunrise - This reminds me of what we called ' Taco Bell ' type food. The sour cream is like water .

Coyotee's - Atmosphere great , looks and feels like a good restaurant. Food is quite tasty ..the beef is good.

Charlie Browns - I'm not sure where car number plates on the wall fit into mexican food. But I remember when this place first opened we went many times as there Nachos were so huge !! shredded beef . good cheese & sour cream ( thick ).

At the moment , I would consider Coyotee's or Charlie Browns the best of a bad bunch. ( just my opinion )

There have also been others we travelled to that have come and gone !

there use to be one over in Silom years ago named ' maria ' or similar that was quite good.

    Good Mexican food -

    Fresh corn chips

    Shredded beef

    Thick sour cream

    Tasty Salsa

    Include taquitos in the menu

Authentic tacos - using lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, salsa, beef or chicken

    Hot Jalepinoes

    Tabasco sauce or similar

A reasonably good quality cheese always fresh and spreads well.

    Corona of course.

Atmosphere plays a big part in where I eat & if the surroundings compliment the type of food then thats a big plus. I believe an outside garden type Mexican restaurant with mexican music ( maybe two guys in Sombrero's playing a guitar & drums ) . This is my kinda restaurant.

    Cheers, :)

  14. The easiest way is to get a taxi. As mentioned above , the cost will depend on what time of the day you arrive as this can range from baht 210 - baht 365 .

The airport express is baht 100 but there will be a waiting time plus it will take a while to reach Soi 22.

The local buses do not have a service any more that goes past Soi 22 , they terminate at On-nut & you could get the BTS to Phong Pong station and walk the 3 blocks to Soi 22. ( cost 35+25=60baht) or get another local bus from On-nut ( #25,2,48,40,511) to the bus stop just north of Soi 22. ( similar cost as above)

    cheers :)

  15. Monday 31st Aug.

A man is expected to undergo surgery after being attacked by his dog, which bit him on his face, groin and leg.

The 34-year-old man was attacked by his family dog, believed to be a pit-bull terrier, in the backyard of his Whitford Road home in Green Valley, in Sydney's west, about 10pm (AEST) on Sunday.

Police believe the dog turned on the man when he tried to remove it from an enclosed pergola in the backyard.

He was left with bites to his mouth, groin and left leg.

His wife and six children, aged two to 13 years, were home at the time.

The man managed to call emergency services and is expected to have surgery at Liverpool Hospital.

The dog was removed from the home and will be destroyed, police said.

There are some breeds you should just not trust ... :)

  17. Oh Tommy ....

I can't sleep thinking about the wedding plans & all ..

And have you met all the inlaws ? moma , papa , aunt noi , uncle chai , sisters , brothers , cousins , uncles brothers , aunt's friends , neighbours etc .... could be quite a big family as most thai's have ... i hope they have a 7 eleven in the village and plenty of leo.

What about the honeymoon ? Phuket ? Chang Mai ? Udon Thani ? Se Saket ?

There are so many things to work out in such a short space of time .....

Anyway ... give us the date & i get book my taxi.

    It's just like a fairytale ... isn't it !! amazing thailand..

    GL :)

  18. Cannot understand my girlfriend which is thai sometimes (or most of the times) :)

Been together for many months now and usually when i am in my country she calls and we message all the time. But this time its me who has to call her all the time and many times she doesnt even pick up the phone, and the worst about it she doesnt call back! This is so weird, if she calls me and i dont have time to answer i call her back as soon as i can because i care for her.

I have read many stories and i really fear and beginning to think she is dating someone else, thats why she is ignoring me on the phone sometimes. She usually picks up the phone only early in the morning in Thailand.

This has been going on for over 1 month now and i feel i am getting fed up with this. Feel like she has no feelings for me when she acts like this. Gonna demand some answers from her because this is bugging me alot and i gues you guys would react the same huh? Last time i got so fed up so i asked her right out if me and her are broken up? Do not worry she responded ..... ehm ok. no answers about the calling part. Should i chill ? am i worrying too much? Long distance relationships can do this. But these symptoms i am telling about is a bit worrying to me or what do you guys think? I am no thai expert :D

My guess is it's worse than that! you are about to be dumped.

That could also mean someone else in tow already.

Walk away from the crash! Don't ever phone again.

I think the lesson to be learnt is about commitment. You simply have to be in someone's life.

It's tough I kinow, but about normal for Thailand and actually you will escape quite lightly.

    Mummysboy,

    Please try and keep up.

The lad is now getting married to the girl he thought was cheating on him.

    GFL.

yes ... isn't this just a fairytale ending !!! all done in one day .... i'm so happy for them both...

i guess that's why they call this " amazing thailand "

    cheers.

    Yes sorry.

Wow! I hope it's a white wedding too! I mean no doubt, this girl sounds so sweet n all.

What a great turn around- sure to last!

  19. Well, I've had my new suit bespoked by a Bangkok tailor and I'm ready to go.

Just let us know the date, Tommy, and we will be there for the glorious occasion. Should be a blast.

Have you discussed the dowry issue with your fair maiden yet?

Ahhh, no need to quibble with minor details. You could simply pay the dowry before you fly over - safer than carrying alll that money and gold on the flight.

Again, congratulations Tommy - who would of thought it aye?

    Cheers,

    GFL.

Ah Yes !!! good on ya Tommy .. I didn't have anything special planned for the next few months so this special occassion will be great .

I'm just dusting of my suit as we speak ... haven't worn her for a few years.

Ah Yes !!! good on ya Tommy ... I didn't have anything special planned for the next couple of months anyway so this momentous occassion will be great.

I'm just dusting off the old suit as we speak ... haven't worn her in a few years .

As Greekfreaklover mentioned ' don't worry to much on the old dowry ... just talk to her about it and get the old ATM working !!. ( you certainly don't want another " no calls " issue on that one )

Well.. again congrats ... and let us know when & where ....

    :)
