  1. Not if you think about it. A Finnish tourist and was not in contact with his family. His family contacted a friend who was also staying in Phuket who, though he had not seen the tourist personally, contacted the police and reported him as missing. The police did a search for the missing tourist and found him, presumably in Patong and advised him to contact his family, which it seems that he did. The friend thanked the police for their assistance. It is nice to know that people still care about their family who can still be found, and the police do do their job. A good show for the police.
  2. I come back to this every day and it still makes me laugh.
  3. She would probably have collapsed in a heap with tears of laughter running down her face.
  4. Of course it does and the 60 watt solar spotlights I am putting ii have solar panels and batteries. The three I am putting in come on at dusk and stay on until there is enough light to charge the batteries and the lights shut down. They are not as bright as the 100 watt LED strip lights they are replacing but they cost nothing to run. The 3 strip lights each consume 1200 watts per night, or 3.6 units of electricity which at the current price of 4,59 baht per unit comes to about 16,5 thb per day or 495 thb per 30 day month. One x 100 watt strip light costs 5.5 thb per 12 hour day. One 60 watt solar spot light costs about 350 thb to buy, so they pay for themselves fairly quickly. Also they stay on during a power cut.
  5. Unfortunately (or fortunately) both of my BIL live in Bangkok about 400 ,m away. My son is at uni in Chiang Rai and only comes home on long holidays. I now look at the jobs in 3 categories. 1 I can do these but much slower than before. 2 I used to be able to do these so I will try 3 times and then give up. Those are the ones I get my wife to find a man who can do them for a price to be decided upon. 3 I used to be able to do these, but I know I can't do them anymore. Those are the ones I get my wife to find a man who can do them for a price to be decided upon from the start.
  6. I wish I had the answer to that.
  7. I have tried to point out some of the pitfalls and problems that I can see.
  8. How many batteries will be required, on average, to stock all these battery service stations If you take 100 batteries as the average, the the 2,000 battery station already foe the one company alone will need 200,000 batteries, which is the equivalent of 200, electric bikes/scooters without batteries. Again just an assumption, if each bike/scooter owner has 2 batteries, 1 in use and a spare and there are just 1,000,000 bike/scooter around the world that means that there are already 2,000,000 batteries out there in use. Where will all these batteries come from that will be needed?
  9. But just how many are being done compared to the overall numbers of ICE to EV vehicles? How are they tested outside of Germany? Now many testing stations will be needed with qualified staff just to test the vehicle? I don't think that the vehicle manufacturers will service it which means you have to go back to the place that converted it or find an approved specialist with qualified staff to do it. I don't suppose that on road repair and recovery companies would have staff trained yet. If hobbyist and small business only are involved in the conversions, will that affect the manufacturers warranty and the resale value of the converted vehicle should the owner wish to sell it after several years? How about the excise duty payable on such a vehicle? Will it be taxed as an ICE, an EV, a hybrid or something completely different. How would insurance companies treat the vehicle. As an ICE, an EV or something special. Whilst it seems like a reasonable idea it also seems to be fraught with problems at this point.
  10. I don't think it is quite that simple as you make it sound and it certainly won't be cheap. Then of course you will need to buy the first lot of swappable batteries. The next problem I can foresee is when you take the vehicle for its annual test when they do the pollution test on the exhaust pipe. That of course assumes that the testing station is qualified to test EVs. Then of course there is the annual road tax which will be different for EVs compared to ICE vehicles. Of course if you buy your EV new from the dealer and have the conversion done elsewhere, it is most likely that the vehicle warranty will become invalid, I should think that trying to sell such a vehicle second hand will be a big problem later.
  11. That is putting it somewhat subtly.
  12. Not amusing in the slightest. Rather sad but only to be expected from you.
  13. I have a 19 year old Thai son who is willing to try to do most things but he is at uni in Chiang Rai at the moment. The goo news for us is that he is home for the holidays next week. I have the tools, knowledge and experience that he doesn't, and he has the muscles and the lack of fear that I had at his age.
  14. The problem with so many tables on the internet is knowing exactly what woeds and terms you want. If you put in the wrong word then you get shunted down to the wrong table.
  15. I find that climbing the stepladder 3 days in a row doesn't make it any less difficult but drilling the holes in the concrete beams and bolting the holding frames on is easier with modification and practise. Tomorrow should be easier as I will be drilling though wood in the car port. Dog, I still hate climbing step ladders though.
  16. I have probably only heard of about 20% of them, mostly from the 1960s and 70s, but I am old and my interest in music mostly died when Freddie Mercury died in 1991. I was in Indonesia working with Motorola at the time. At least with the 1950s to the 1990s I could understand the words and even stuff from the 1920s, 30s and 40s i enjoyed and still do. Stuff from this century does little to nothing for me other than make me want to stuff cotton wool in my ears.
  17. Isn't that part of Tamla Motown?
  18. A very few, very vociferous people who are slowly but surely destroying Thailand for their own benefit. Who have more than they or their families could reasonably spend in 50 lifetimes, yet still that is not enough for them.
  19. I think that every DIY job should come with a free metal detector.
  20. I ran one of the 60 watt lamps my wife last night after 5 hours it was down to about 50% but to my surprise it was still working after 12 hours, though only just. Now I have to move it from one end of the house to the other. Dog, how I hate climbing step ladders. So far I have dropped 2 bolts and 1 nut and I have no idea where they went to.
  21. Imagine a metal plate from a car or a truck and you drove over it and damaged your battery pack, definitely a risk these darn EV's. A definitely higher risk than a piece of cheese fell off the moon. BTW, would that be blue cheese or green cheese?
  22. Sadly I had a deprived (depraved?) youth and never saw many live acts, but looking at them on MTV they would certainly have raised my temperature and I would have had to remove my cravat. I used to get this as well from decades ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0szHqIXQ2R8
  23. Thank you for that. I have been reading Crossy's thread of 3 years ago and a lot of that went over my head. I put a 60 watt spot lamp up at the side of the house today. After dark I realised that it is at the wrong end. Tomorrow I will move it to the other end of the house and see if it is any better there. Dog, how I hate climbing step ladders at my age. It was just about fully charged and it came on ay 17:45. After only 3 1/2 hours I looked at it and it was down to about 1/2 charge already. I had thought about putting a 650 watt solar spot light out the back, but after reading the replies to this thread and the replies to Crossy's thread, I will probably need a solar battery the size of a suitcase.
  24. There have been 16 singers in the 3 Degrees since they were formed, and that was back in 1967, some 56 years ago. The original 3 must be in their 70s by now and using walking sticks, Zimmer frames or in wheelchairs. I hope that they aged well as they were a great Motown group.
  25. I have just edited my post to include a link.
