Foreign Tourist Found Staying in a Tent on Patong Beach
billd766 replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Not correct at all. Yes they do go camping in tents. Most weekends groups of Thais on motorbikes and scooters go up to the Mae Wong national park, 20 km up the road from our house and camp overnight in their tents perfectly legally. Some even go another 40km to the end of the road at Chong Yen, and camp up there too. -

The value of solar spotlight wattage compared to the old system
billd766 replied to billd766's topic in The Electrical Forum
Thank you for the information. What I am trying to do is to convert the wattage of a LED spotlight into something that I can understand. I do understand that the more LEDs in a spotlight means that it is brighter. Then I need to work out that if the wattage is for example 500 watts and the Voltage is 230V, I can work out the power consumption per hour. What I then need to do is multiply that figure by 12 for the overnight usage and then try to size the solar panel from that. What I think I need to know is how many (I use the term LED as I don't know the correct term) I will need to power each spotlight for 12 hours plus 10 or 20%. The bigger the solar panel theoretically determines how much charge it will hold in milliamps and that I think is the figure that I am looking for. It is easy to get the correct size spotlight but the problem, at least for me, is sizing the solar panel. -
The value of solar spotlight wattage compared to the old system
billd766 replied to billd766's topic in The Electrical Forum
The house faces South East so the 100W for the side of the house get sunshine for perhaps 6 hours a day and daylight for about 12 hours total, and the 650W would be facing West and get the sunshine from about noon until around 5 pm and daylight from morning until dusk. -
The value of solar spotlight wattage compared to the old system
billd766 replied to billd766's topic in The Electrical Forum
Thank you Crossy. That is the sort of information that I am looking for. A couple of months ago I bought 3 (buy one, get one free) solar spotlights. (The 3 BOGOF lights never arrived). They were supposed to be 100W and possibly they were, but they went flat and shut down in3 hours or less. They were cheap at 582 baht for the 3 including delivery. What I want to do is put a 100W or 200W solar light down the side of the house that we use, plus a 500W or 650W out the back pointing at my MIL house. They need to last at least 12 hours, so I think that it is the size of the solar panel that is important. The are roundtuit jobs and at the moment are sort of covered by 4 foot LED mains strip lights, though the one at the back is not much use for the coverage that I want. Your previous link going back 3 years should give me some useful information for which I thank you and the other posters very much. -

Can you explain the difference and how it relates to watts? Why do we buy a 100 watt or whatever size light bulb instead of bulbs rated in lumens? -
Rare earth elements on their way out of EVs?
billd766 replied to placeholder's topic in The Green Forum
The problem as I see it and I agree with TBL here, is that if you replace ALL the ICE cars alone, currently there will not be enough generating capacity in many countries to maintain current supplies of electricity, let alone to add all the EV charged vehicles. Therefore more electricity generation will be required< It could be nuclear which is relatively clean (until you have to dispose pf the nuclear waste), solar generation, hydro electric plants, gas power, and of course the dirty old coal fired system. In addition to generate it, the electricity has to be transmitted, to all the houses, businesses, charging units nation wide etc which in many cases may include revamping MUCH of the existing networks nationwide, adding new networks, replacing transformers etc. The price of electricity will rise world wide and those people who are having a problem paying their electricity billd now will have bigger problems in the future. Then you come to the next problem. which is what to do with all the hundreds of millions of ICE vehicles which will have to be scrapped? -
The value of solar spotlight wattage compared to the old system
billd766 replied to billd766's topic in The Electrical Forum
AFAIK the solar charger also saves and stores the charge and effectively is the battery. I think that the number of LEDs on the spotlight side is relevant to the power output of the spotlight. (more LEDs = more light). I also think that the number of LEDs (for want of the proper name) is relevant to the amount of power stored and therefore the length of time that the spotlight will operate for. So the larger the solar panel, the more charge it will hold and the longer the spotlight will work. What does confuse me is the wattage. Does for example a solar spotlight of 65W give the same amount of light as a mains powered non solar spotlight of 45W, 65W, 100W, 500W, 1,000W or even a 2,000W? -
Weapons and ammunition are always easier and cheaper to replace that fully qualified and trained soldiers. It all depends on who decides which is the attrition rate for soldiers. Defenders usually have an advantage of the ground to be fought over, IF they have been there long enough to prepare it. By preparing it, I mean mining it, spotting artillery fire on specific points, reinforcing strong points, being prepared to fight in buildings that have been destroyed to rubble. Tanks, AFVs and vehicles have problems moving when streets are blocked and you have no idea what is around the next corner. If, for example, a tank has its tracks destroyed, it can still be used as an armoured pill box until it runs out of fuel or ammunition and the it simply becomes a very heavy road block, unless it can be recovered, not easy under fire, dragged out of the way and then recovered and repaired.

Thai PM pledges support for a “People’s Constitution”
billd766 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
There is no reason why there cannot be a new constitution. After all it can be easily be replaced at the next military coup, unless of course the military have finally figured out that military coups are so unpopular that the next one will fail. -
I want to put a couple of solar spotlights around the house They seem to range between 45W, 65W and 2,00W. Are the wattages the same value as the non solar wattages, or do they have a different value? I have done several internet searches and they seem to come up with different values. They will be running for 12 hours or more, so what size solar batteries would I need for a 45W, 65W, 100W or a 2,000W solar spot light? Any help or advice will be gratefully received.

Fury grows over Tory visa rules where ‘only the rich’ dare fall in love
billd766 replied to CharlieH's topic in World News
IMHO it seems as though the Conservative party, the cabinet and the PM, whoever he or she is this week, seem to be desperate to give the next election to the Labour party. The Conservatives seem to have run out of barrels to scrape the bottoms of, judging by the current crop and the recent past performers. AFAICS the Labour party is not much better either, which is not saying very much.- 243 replies

NATO chief on Ukraine war: ‘Be prepared for bad news’
billd766 replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Ukraine
I suppose it depends on which side "wins", loses, or it ends up as a stalemate. Then comes the pertinent question as to who pays for what, who goes to trial and is or is not jailed and for what war or humanitarian crimes. IMHO Putin will either be eliminated by either the Russians or the Ukrainians or simply vanish in the fog of war. The West want him to go on trial for various war or humanitarian crimes. Depending on who replaces him, the Russians may send him for trial to the ICC in the Hague, or try him themselves or just disappear him. Nobody can see into the future more than a few hours. -
NATO chief on Ukraine war: ‘Be prepared for bad news’
billd766 replied to CharlieH's topic in The War in Ukraine
Well he is 71 years old, (b 07 October 1952) which seems to be an average age for a politician nowadays. As for his opponents inside Russia there is Alexei Anatolievich Navalny (Russian: Алексей Анатольевич Навальный, IPA: [ɐlʲɪkˈsʲej ɐnɐˈtolʲjɪvʲɪtɕ nɐˈvalʲnɨj]; born 4 June 1976) is a Russian opposition leader, lawyer, and anti-corruption activist. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Opposition_to_Vladimir_Putin_in_Russia There is too long a long list in this link to copy and paste in reply. However a small part claims that "According to Russian NGO Levada Center, about 15% of the Russian population disapproved of Putin in the beginning of 2023." However it is difficult to figure out the real truth as the Russian state controls 99% or more of the media. There is large opposition in the west among the politicians and the people in opposition to Putin, however the GOP in the Senate is not happy with the amount of funds being sent to the Ukraine. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67667035 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-67637679 https://www.bbc.com/news/world-europe-67355423 https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-politics-67630934 -

His successor, who ever that will be may not be given the choice. That of course depends on who is chosen, who does the choosing, and how much support that they have in Russian politics. -
Chinese Tourist Exposes Nana Area as Potential Danger for Women

If you had spent a little time and read Walker 88s post you would have leaned that, as usual, you were not correct, From the link. quite "Nevertheless, the woman was found to be working and earning income without the necessary permit. Investigators discovered that Wang engaged in the online sale of various products, yet neither she nor her shop possessed the required permit to operate the business." -
Some people run for enjoyment, others run for health reasons, some people run 26 km marathons for charity. How do YOU know it was a one off and why do YOU think it is too much to be a daily exercise. Are YOU a qualified doctor or a specialist? Everybody is different. What is too much exercise for one person, may not be enough for another person of the same age. Nobody wakes up one morning , never having exercised before, and decides to run an 8 km marathon. Exercise is like a tree. A tree starts off small and over time, the tree grows larger. Exercise is similar, at least for me. I am 79 and never did any exercise before. 4 months ago I started doing the UK NHS exercises and now I do about 1 hour per evening but I started slowly. I also cut the grass and do odd jobs during the day for about 1 1/2 hours. I listen to my body and when it says that it has had enough, then I stop and rest, no matter what I am doing.

Undercover Raid Busts Tomboy Bar: 18 Tourists Found with Purple Urine

AFAIR refusing to take the test will earn you at least one overnight in a cell. Constant refusal may earn you a place in the IDC, a flight to your home country at your expense, plus a ban of indeterminate from returning to Thailand -
I have a vague feeling that all the ordering for all the 7/11 shops is centralised and is done automatically from the central stock computer. It may require a manual input to raise the stock levels. but that would probably have to be done by the day manager to the regional office, and not by the shop staff.

UN warns of ‘blatant disregard for basic humanity’ in Gaza warfare

He hasn't called you a terrorist supporter (as he called me one) yet for trying to see the Palestinian point of view. Belay that remark as I see that you have made his list after all. ANYBODY that disagrees with his deeply biased view, he considers is a troll. That is not necessarily the Hamas view. -
