Brits, hope may be on the way: Musk!

Back in cave days strongest was the alpha male that killed all challengers. Now that such is frowned on, strongest is the alpha male that is rich, powerful and gets all the best looking women as groupies. -
Warning Signs: The Looming Collapse of a Critical Ocean System

You tried to change the question from climate to environment. Naughty! None of that, IMO, is climate related. That's just humans destroying the environment as usual. BTW, those forests may have vanished but the land isn't bare. It's covered with trees. Zero change climate wise. -

As they can do neither it's a bit academic. Just cutting bits off our bodies is not a cure. It merely stops the cancer killing us sooner. I had a prostatectomy which stopped me dying some years ago but it caused health problems I didn't have before. I classify myself as more unhealthy than I was before they cut a bit out of me. -

Of course not. Nature is far mightier than all of humanity that ever existed put together. -

Question. If we stopped using all oil based products tomorrow- none in use anywhere on the planet- how long would it take for the desired temperature to be reached? Is all that CO2 in the atmosphere going to magically vanish? Pity they keep destroying the rain forests. They must have contained a lot of carbon that has been released by burning the trees to make way for monoculture plantations of oil palm or to raise cattle on for hamburgers. -
Simples. There were no laptops, tablets or internet enabled mobile phones, and kids didn't sit in their rooms bullying each other on social media or looking a porn. They were outside doing physical stuff. Also, no convenience stores choka with fat and sugar filled snack foods. I blame bad parenting for allowing kids to stay in their room on the vile devices. I had a friend that actually served meals to her brat in his room so he didn't have to leave the computer for 15 minutes to eat meals.

No, sums up the sorry state of the military that so few want to join it. The military was a great start to my adult life, but sadly once Vietnam ended it was ignored by the government and allowed to become the failed organisation I was eager to leave. It evolved to a refuge for bullies and the incompetent.

From my experience working in hospitals, blame the management that kowtows to consultants. They know when things are not right, or should, but so often ignore or cover for them. I had many battles with management and lost all. I also blame the assistants from the registrars to the nursing staff that will not rock the boat by making an official complaint. The days when consultants were "god" should have been left behind decades ago, but sadly still alive and kicking.

and that is a silly post from you. Of course science is primitive now, as if it were advanced it could prevent cancer. Wittering about thousands of factors is just deflection. A super computer can probably handle millions of factors in minutes if not seconds. It's just that our scientists are too dumb to know the right info to imput for the correct answer It's well known that the sun will expand eventually. I don't expect much from scientists, so why would I worry about that? My life has already exceeded it's use by date, and I have nothing to fear crossing the great divide, hopefully not too far away. The human species is heading for calamity, and I'd rather not be around for that. -
I wonder how we survived in NZ during my childhood. It got really cold back then ( it's a lot warmer now, thanks to global warming ) and no one I knew had central heating. Most houses had one fireplace in the lounge, which used wood, and insulation was unknown. Bedrooms were unheated, though electric blankets were just becoming available. The only heaters we had were those 2 bar things that were only good for making toast on. I guess we were just tougher then than the present generation.

The sensible soldier also never ever ever volunteers for anything at all except working in the cookhouse. Also never attempt to prove that one is of above average intelligence, as they'll stick stripes on your arm and make you a target for snipers. There is a very good saying. There are old soldiers and there are bold soldiers. There are no old bold soldiers.

Warning Signs: The Looming Collapse of a Critical Ocean System

I find that almost every conundrum about modern politics can be explained if greed is entered into the equation. The powers that be are so lackadaisical about preparing for the effects of climate change that one suspects they are not serious about doing anything. They've been telling us for a long while now that we need to do something. So far that includes more taxes, and a lot of hot air conferences. Building solar powered desalination plants, sea walls and river embankments, not so much. -
Reminds me of being in the Territorials after leaving the regulars. We got the leftover rubbish equipment, and our training was a very bad joke. I only stayed in because I needed the extra money, though even that wasn't much. They'll have to do a whole lot better at making the reserves an attractive prospect then. Even if they get them to join up with clever advertising, if the actual experience isn't good they won't stay in. I once went to a show where the military was recruiting, and I wished I could join the one they were advertising, as it was so much more exciting than the one I was in!

I think I can speak for most that if the lords and masters asked me to join up as they expected massive numbers of soldiers to be dead in short order, I'd tell them to stick it where the sun don't shine. As it was I did join up during my generation's war, but there was no expectation of large numbers of dead, and in fact the total number was very small, as we did not have the same combat doctrine as the US. They didn't even need to conscript, unlike Australia. Plenty of volunteers.

There was a post a while back saying a pardon can only be granted if one has confessed or been found guilty. That's never going to apply if they haven't even been accused of a crime. Is this silly season? Are the Dem's proving how bonkers they are? I guess having attempted to use the Justice System to cancel Trump, they think they can bend the rules to suit themselves. BTW, if they managed to do so, just imagine what Trump could do with preemptive pardons? If they could do so, then so can every president in the future.

Warning Signs: The Looming Collapse of a Critical Ocean System

No. It was based on experience. Nothing to say about the useless western doctors? BTW, I worked with a surgeon that had professor in his title, which would make him the nearest to a scientist in all my years working in hospitals. Complete wally. I also experienced many scientists in Antarctica as they go there in the summer to do various studies, some of which were biological in nature. Like any group of people, some were sensible people ( doing sensible research ) and some were complete buffoons ( doing stupid research ).
