  1. I think you'll find that the biggest RTP detractors are the Thais themselves. BTW nice mixed metaphor there. I'd rather have my candle and eat it. I long ago blocked Neeranan but still have to see his nonsense. There's no escape.
  2. If they actually had to work then no-one would take the job. Now, they get paid whether they work or not. Not entirely unlike weather forecasters, who get paid no matter how many times they get the forecast wrong.
  3. The problem, and it's a huge one, is that if Trump is banned from standing for office again then many of those who support him would take to the streets and start burning down buildings. There can be no doubt about that. So, basically, America is looking at a very bleak future. And that will affect us all, because if America is burning then the dollar will fall into the toilet, and that will impact almost every currency on Earth.
  4. Nothing at all to do with party politics. Trump engaged in unlawful activities, end of.
  5. It's two months prior to application and keep it there during the 30 days they take to decide if you're allowed to 'visit' your wife and until you have the extension, so a further month. That extra month isn't an official rule as far as I know, but generally applied.
  6. There's an idea. There's actually a good Japanese shop much more central on Suk 33/1 which might be worth trying. Not a warehouse, but I've bought many good things there.
  7. Here's your answer. Vaping is illegal. Nearly everything is illegal in Thailand, such as selling a nice cold beer between 2 and 5 on a hot tropical afternoon. But, fortunately, laws are rarely enforced. I have watched many YouTube videos of Thai nightlife areas where the majority of women are vaping - men not so, strangely. If, IF, a uniform wants to be difficult then they have the law to back them up, but that is rarely the case. Relax - and next time find a place for a vacation where you don't have to worry about such nonsense.
  8. A 'friend' of mine is usually very drunk before 10 most nights, so I don't think she's too concerned with government time limits. Nor is anyone else, actually, except the Anti-Fun Police.
  9. Thais can do anything when it comes to driving. A car went through the top of a tree opposite my house once. I've seen a photo of a pickup suspended above a road tangled up in the hundreds of cables that are such a feature of Thailand. But in this case, his load shifted and tipped him over. Still not easy though if you aren't Thai.
  10. Thanks for all your suggestions.
  11. Strange question perhaps, but is there somewhere in central Bangkok to buy cheap beer and wine glasses? If I was elsewhere I'd visit a 20 Baht shop and find them there, but I know that isn't possible in Bangkok. I might sound like a cheapskate, but I only need them for one night so don't really want to spend hundreds.
  12. The whole world is wrong. Only Thais are right. Every Thai knows that from birth.
  13. They absolutely do not. As I've posted above, I have watched many street scene videos of China on YouTube, recently filmed, and almost no-one in any of them are wearing masks.
  14. I've watched many videos of Chinese street life, day and night scenes, and I doubt that even 5% are wearing masks. In Thailand, I doubt that even 5% are not wearing them. My wife wears one even when driving alone. It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if sometimes corpses are being carried to the temple for cremation still wearing a mask.
  15. I had exactly the same problem recently. I had to go to Dubai during the ridiculous consideration period when they spend 30 days deciding if I'm allowed to 'visit' my wife (I'm there now in fact) and this site advised me to get a 60-day extension. I tried, they said it was against the rules (it isn't) and to do a visa run instead and apply for the one year extension when I return. As I live not too far from Mukdahan I popped over to Laos for an hour, bought some beer and was home by lunchtime. That, of course, may not be an option for you. It's something you need to discuss with your local office. Maybe your wife could do that by phone if it's far from you? But, when it comes down to it, what the rules are depends on the office and the individual officer I'm afraid. You simply have to play by their stupid and pointless rules. Even when they are wrong.
  16. You don't have to use an app. Websites still work on other devices. But yes, Wise is the way to go.
  17. Not really. Just last week near us people smelt something and discovered a pickup had come off the road and into a canal next to it, hidden from view until you went looking for the source of the smell. Driver might or might not have been injured before dying.
  18. You don't need to go to your own branch to get the statements. My branch is still in Bangkok from when I lived there and I get my statements from my local branch in Kalasin Province. Not a problem. Of course, in Thailand there is always the chance someone doesn't know the rules and say 'Cannot', so then ask to speak to the manager.
  19. Strangely, Finland has several times been assessed as the happiest country in the world. I've been there many times and I can understand that. But there is certainly an undercurrent of alcohol abuse. In a way they are similar to Thais, many of whom only drink to get drunk. Some put it down to Finns keeping their feelings inside them (again, similar to Thais), and there's actually a joke about two friends meeting for the first time in years and sitting down for a drink together. Not a word is said between them for a hour, until one of them asks the other something and the second person asks 'Are we here to talk or drink?
  20. Bearing in mind that there are 50,000 (?) Thais for every foreigner, shouldn't the number of non-foreigners fined be nearly 6 million Thais fined too? Instead, the number reported is zero. Or don't Thais commit crimes as 'Oh no, Thai person never do that sir'?
  21. Something I've never been asked for on countless trips in. As usual in Thailand, sometimes the rules are followed and often they're not.
  22. What has that got to do with building work at Roi Et? ????
