  1. Indeed, thought so. Apart from the very first news (Kanchanaburi News) which named him as Marcus John, all the other Thai are giving the 'name withheld until relatives informed' line.
  2. Being given prominence in the BP. Accurately names the injured, but not the deceased as yet (though inaccurately named in other news sources).
  3. For clarity, these guys are/were not 'tourists', with both the deceased and the severely injured being neighbours and in long term relationships with their Thai partners in Kanchanaburi. They were not doing anything illegal, as there is no current law that prohibits alcohol consumption in one's home, and I believe at the moment there is no constraint on numbers of people who may gather in one place (Kanchanaburi especially as it is a 'Blue' zone). Noise is another matter, whether it was music or even laughter. At 3 a.m. any noise at all is going to carry, and Thai houses are not renowned for their sound proofing qualities. These were not small guys, and looking at the photos of the Thai who assaulted them, it must have been extremely quick and unexpected before they had a chance to react.
  4. Sprayed insulation (50mm thick) was circa 90,000 baht (from recollection, 400m2 was the approximate dimension, some of the roofing isn't visible in the photos). Total cost of the house repainting (but excluding actual paint which I bought myself to ensure I was getting the correct specification/colour) including the roof, with all surfaces primed and two top coats, and inclusive of bamboo scaffolding where required. Jotun didn't do a roof paint in the colour I wanted, had a good conversation with their technical department who recommended a standard cement paint. The average internal temperature of the house is now lower than it was before, inspite of the dark roof, even in the roof space, and certainly no signs of water ingress.
  5. We repainted our house 7 years ago. Part of the planned colour scheme meant changing the roof tile colour to charcoal grey. Obviously in our climate, there would have been a significant increase in heat convection. We chose to have foam insulation applied to the roof internals, which as well as being an excellent insulation, also came with the benefit of completely sealing any small cracks and effectively locked all the tiles in position. The roof was pressure jetted, then a few days allowed for the tiles to dry out, and then an old concrete primer applied. That was followed by two coats of normal concrete paint. All the paints were Jotun (highly recommended). Some photos, firstly of the under roof foam insulation, and a couple of the roof after painting.
  6. Just to muddy the waters. Suite (phonetically 'sweet') and suit (phonetically 'soot'). There is also within this context, the English slang for male genitalia, i.e. 'meat and two veg', 'toggle and two', and specifically 'three piece suite'. I guess again in context, an old 'three piece suite' looking for a new home in Phuket is not a rare occurence, indeed could possibly be congratulated.
  7. I guess for objectivity, you need responses from someone who has banked with both. Again, customer service levels can of course vary between branches. Location of branch for convenience is important also. Personally, I've been with SCB for 14 years, and no complaints. Their security for on-line transactions via their app is good.
  8. It's about 10 years since I closed the company I had (same as you, land/house) and from recollection I was paying just over 20,000 then.
  9. A Kor Ror 2 is required for every extension. Easily obtained from your Amphur, and costs circa 30 baht. In Phuket at least, it cannot be more than 180 days old.
  10. Wise choice with Samsung (I have the S20 Galaxy Ultra, the wife the S20 Note Ultra). Easy transferring all the date via Samsung's app "Smart Switch" or the more generic "Android File Transfer". Does your current phone have an SD card? If so, worthwhile transferring as much data as possible onto it, plus if it connects to a PC make a back up. One thing with apps, worthwhile making a separate note of your log on details if applicable (user name/passwords etc) just in case the app transfers but not these details.
  11. The TP Link smart plug connects initially through your wifi router, and then, having installed the app, that then sets the timer for on/off etc plus on/off override. Instructions come with the plug. I have six lights downstairs with these on.
  12. I had my 2 AZ in Patong, and had the International Passport issued there. I then had a third dose, this time Moderna at Siroraj (ex International). They updated both the International Passport (with their stamp also), and the Mor Prom app.
  13. Anything, toast, good bread, crackers, or even raw vegetables such as carrots and celery as a dip.
  14. In a food processor, I blend the salmon with cream cheese, creme fraiche, creamed horseradish, juice and zest of a fresh lemon, and chopped dill. The same mix I use with Norwegian smoked mackeral instead of smoked salmon, again available from FFF. With the mackeral, need to ensure the meat is free of skin and bones.
  15. Indeed. WRT stores, I really meant the ones that had never closed. Wasn't yesterday a 'big clean up day' for Bangla, with everywhere closed? The bars that did open there did so ostensibly as newly certified 'restaurants', so whilst they may or may not choose to remain open with limited LEGAL alcohol dispensing hours, they can if they wish.
  16. I regularly buy smoked salmon trim (in 500g packs) which I turn into smoked salmon mousse. Excellent. 239 baht for a 500g frozen pack from Food for Foreigners in Phuket (they deliver throughout Thailand). I know they have regular salmon fillets, both smoked and unsmoked also.
  17. I have one of the B&D Workmates and it's excellent. I think from Lazada.
  18. Restaurants are open, alcohol sales prohibited after 9 p.m. No restriction on inside dining. All stores open with normal operating hours. Wearing of masks is mandatory in public areas throughout Thailand, not only Phuket.
  19. Slightly confusing what you are doing. Has your application for 'stop and go' been approved? If not, the current status is that to avoid quarantine, there is only the Sandbox option (7 days in a Sandbox location, but free to roam within the area after first negative test). The good news is, Koh Lanta, being part of Krabi province, is a Sandbox location, so you have the potential of changing your itinerary to start your visit there. I recommend you checking regularly with Richard Barrow in Thailand on Facebook, and his associated (TNR) news site. This is probably the most current and accurate news you will get. Much of what is available on forums are opinions rather than actual facts.
  20. Just finished the first 3 seasons of "The Marvelous Mrs Maisel". What a brilliant show, and right up there with some of the best TV productions I can recall. Set in the 1950's, a New York Jewish housewife splits from her husband and discovers her gift for stand up comedy. Absolute classic funny dialogue, and excellent performances by all of the main cast. I believe that Season 4 will be with us late February. Very highly recommended.
  21. I check rates on Wise regularly, and this afternoon this message appeared. I've actually started a different thread with this information, though thought to add it here also. Couuld possibly influence bank choices for some.
  22. Looking at the current transfer rates in my account, and noted this message. I'm SCB so apparently not affected. I guess those most affected will be those who do the monthly income method for their retirement extensions and are not using the three detailed banks (though I guess multiple transfers would suffice).
