The e-visa system should not be confusing, but for you is very inconvenient for sure. Yes you have to apply in the country you are applying. VPN won't help. Yes, for a single entry non-O you will need 400k (or equal) in the bank, not necessarily a Thai bank. They say the processing time is 10-15 days (Laos), if this is actually true nobody knows yet (anywhere else it is not). If you have 400k then an in country extension of your current non-O would be the best. But you need the money.

How much extra for the daily v monthly rate? btw, seems like a normal policy, at least in my experience, perhaps you were just lucky before.

It's not a new visa. It's just all countries will join the already long existing e-visa program. Nothing different except you can no longer make in person applications.

Paying online for a Laos e-visa is not problematic. Paying online for a rail ticket on the LCR Ticket app is not problematic. So there must be another reason for the strange in person payment requirement for a Thai e-visa.

Of course they do. They can't afford it but it's necessary. It should not be part of your plans however.

Yes why not? I purchased the card based upon the terms in force at the time. That they changed their terms subsequently only prevents me from buying a new card.

I don't think that's an issue, I've done it recently as have others on this thread, nothing said. How long do the cards last I was wondering, is it 7 years like the BTS cards?

Used them for UK passport renewals and for 2 UK visa applications. Never had any issues with the processing of any of these. And more recently for 2 Thai tourist visa extensions, similarly without and problems. Mind you I have also never had an issue with immigration, banks, taxi drivers or any other entity here, I must be blessed.
