You would be applying for the visa to the Thai embassy in your home country not immigration here. I sure you will not have a problem getting it. I am sure immigration will not make a problem when entering the country.

At the airport you will use both passports. Immigration will only stamp you into the country in your new passport. Then you will need to go to immigration to have your stamps transferred. You will not need a letter from your embassy since your new passport was issued while you were out of the country.

It has been 30 days for many years but they are limited to 2 per calendar year. At this time they are for 45 days. Ends on March 31 but it may be extended to the end of this year.

If you don't get your passport back go to the police and report it as stolen and tell them the agent has it. Chances are that you will get it back in short order.

After getting the new passport you will need to go to immigration to have your stamps transferred from the old one. If you already have a re-entry permit some offices will not transfer it and you will need to show it in your old passport to use it.
