Yes. I gave up for caffeinated coffee for 5 years. When working full time from home, I used to drink around 6 cups of Nescafe instant during the morning, then developed acid reflux - the doctor, who turned out to be pretty useless, told me to stop the caffeine and gave me some medication. I did knock the Nescafe on the head (which was my only sin, dont drink, gave up smoking years ago), did my own research and managed to control the acid reflux, and dropped the pills. I did stop for the occasional cappuccino in amazon, and found it to be very strong and made my head spin, but other than that, no bad effect. (I was told that Amazon use Robusta beans?) I was still drinking 1-2 cups of rancid decaf from Dow Egberts decaf (expensive). The acid reflux vanished. (No ideas what caused the reflux, but it was an intense pain during the night) - I just put it down to the only thing I dropped and that was coffee. Recently, I was prompted to try some filter coffee, we have a couple of good roasters in Khon Kaen, and is a shame to miss out. I bought a 'clever dripper' a burr grinder and a couple of bags of arabica beans. I feel no different from the times when I was drinking the decaf or when my body was happy to drink 6-8 cups of Nescafe. I now enjoy two no more than two cups of decent coffee (with milk and sugar) - a much more enjoyable experience than any instant. But other than that, no noticeable health benefits to giving up coffee.

Sunday night movie - Barbarian interesting / quirky - indie horror / thriller - written and directed by Zach Cregger, the same guy who directed the Sasquatch documentary on Hulu. https://m.imdb.com/title/tt15791034/ 7.1 on IMDb - a bit of a marmite movie - not bad, not amazing - a good start, Interesting first act - quite drawn out - I thought it was going to be a bit like the first [Rec] but not. Worth a look if you like that kind of thing. -
Pet Friendly Resorts - Nan Province

Never been there but I was recommended this place, owned by a westerner. https://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g2237345-d3224394-Reviews-Siam_Garden_Bungalows_and_Camping-Thung_Chang_Nan_Province.html -

Yes .. I enjoyed that one .. We haven’t had any contributions from @sanuk711 for a while. I saw there was a second series of hope street being shown. -
You could replace that computer with a raspberry pi running OpenVPN, leave it plugged it into his router, then log into the created VPN rather than use teamviewer. https://youtu.be/rtUl7BfCNMY I don’t know how much a pi is these days, $50-$99 - that would be a one off payment instead of a monthly payment.

And when you say, any problems? And they just smile and say no, nothing to worry about .. is it a filling then? When they keep on taking your money, saying they don’t know about specialist dental hospitals but that they have a visiting specialist once a week. Who really knows who is qualified for what in this country? Everyone is entitled to do whatever they want, I was just agreeing with the other poster who said he would rather not go a roadside clinic.
-
I guess Zoom / LINE / wechat all video communication platforms must harvest this data too.
-
Correct. I went to local clinics for years - most were just a receptionist and the dentist was upstairs sleeping and would come and do some work and send me on my way - periodic cleaning for 1000B, the odd filling for 600-1000B. They all seemed great, clean, competent, decent level of English. Then I went to a proper dental hospital and regretted the past 20 years of Thai soi-dental care - first thing, I was off to the in-house x-ray dept. Next i'm looking in a dictionary to find out what a periodontist is, the periodontist told me about orthodontic work that was carried out when I was a teenager wasn't the best .. and showed me why. I was blown away. If you are in Pattaya, take a day trip to bangers and go to Chula Dental Hospital, or any other real dental hospital.

They gave an option at the end - the presenter also suggested in the show notes that "Proton" was a trusted VPN - Proton also offer a free secure email service. Your data is being sold anyway whatever you do, but it doesn't hurt to be aware - If you use Facebook, gmail, Spotify ( how about collecting your choice of music and correlating to your websurfing habits, for me, that's scary enough that I don't use a music streaming service), free VPNs, cheap cloud storage that comes with your security camera, free pirate video streaming services all monitor your data - then its just another channel, even the Chinese company that I work for monitors my facial responses and vocal output. Why do we trust them? because we need to use their service and we are told by them that they are a tool to trust, we need the VPN to access geolocked content - Maybe use a VPN with an app that allows the VPN to be switched on and off and a personal firewall to monitor outgoing calls. Maybe not a good idea to use a systemwide VPN on your router.

And it’s not a good camera - I had a choice of a free camera or cash discount for a few thousand. I had already decided I was going to get the top of the range xiaomi - the quality looked great fir the same price as the toyota discount. I spoke to a fitter, who was reluctant to fit an aftermarket camera in a new truck. He’d had issues before when his excellent work had voided an Isuzu warrantee. Toyota confirmed this. I chose the Toyota camera. After testing, It’s not so good, there’s not a 100% chance of grabbing a number plate or drivers face from the camera, especially the rear camera - The wifi function is a but naff. The wiring job by Toyota was pretty slick but I needed to modify the cable holder a little and swap the sticky pads. An experienced Thai fitter will charge you 500B.

I started watching the first episode of the 3rd series of One Lane Bridge - hmm, its ok - it started off as a crime / mystery with supernatural twist, seems more about the latter / and bridge now. Still a good watch for the scenery. -
Just get a paid VPN - The games are all shown free, split between ITVhub / STV with its <deleted> quality and iplayer in 720p. SBS is really easy to navigate around, maybe a free VPN will work, but you can get one month on PIA / Express / Nord for 400B VPNs will be blocked or streams buffering - lol, ??

I'm sure they were. I did have a mate who protested outside a well known language school on Sukhumvit after he was booted and the school wouldn't supply him with his tax receipts, he was outside a shopping center, walking up and down carrying a sign written in Thai - So this kind of thing does happen. (he got his money that company had been deducting over the years)

We agreed to delete the video and no further action. The officers didn't have a clue anyway, I pressed delete, but iPhones store it in a "trash can" for 30 days. Everyone totally missed the point - I was told that it could be very bad to send the video to their superiors or post online, because they could lose their jobs and could be embarrassing for the company. Like, no <deleted> Sherlock - that's the whole point, they weren't doing their jobs because if they were there would be no reason to make the video. Just sayin' - demonstrating outside a restaurant might not have the desired effect poster thinks. Just think, exposing their lies could lead to a loss of revenue or making their restaurant look bad.
-
I kind of did that at an airport once - trying to change a flight, perfectly polite, I was told to wait - no problem, after 40 mins of standing I took out my phone and started filming the staff who were too busy to deal with my issue, lounging on desks, messing about, moaning about being hungry and tired, then the police turned up. Things like this dont tend to go the way you think in the LoS.
-
LOL - I didn't watch it until the end. It seems PIA that I always connect to, and then just leave running for days because its often easier than reconnecting, is owned by a dodgy company. Hands up who still wants to run a system wide VPN on their router? I like the researchers enthusiastic manner for the topic, interesting to find that China runs a good percentage of the free VPNs/

An interesting view, especially those on free VPN (or proxys)

I have never had any issues getting a refund from Lazada, but I feel that everything is great with Lazada until it isn't. These occasions have become less an less recently but still .. As opposed to the other crew, how that trainwreck of a company is still going is beyond me.

Microwave?
recom273 replied to OneMoreFarang's topic in Real Estate, Housing, House and Land Ownership
When we bought the past two ovens, a teka (which we returned 9 months later because they couldn't send anyone to repair the thing) and then an Electrolux, we bought an oven with an accompanying nicrowave, both were fitted appliances - the microwave didnt cost much more than the oven alone. We don't use it to cook, just a bit of reheating, melting butter / chocolate for cakes, heating water for a second or two to make bread - well handy. -
You will be fine on surfshark - they have an android app that you can just switch on and off. I don’t know if you can use surfshark to access itvhub - they are changing to itvx very soon.
-
Surfshark works OK .. It's cheap, does what it says on the tin. I use the app on my firestick to watch iplayer. There are better VPNs, surfshark doesn't access all of the iplayer streams and it only uses openVPN protocol - this is fine for most. I use personal internet access - for one, it has a specific London server for UK streaming, they dont "guarantee" the other servers will be able to access video servers like iplayer and ITV. The service failed for a couple of days over the past year, but they were really transparent, and quick to respond - the work they did much improved the speed - surfshark servers are quite slow, again, it's fine for most. Take a look around to if the VPNs offer this streaming server in the US or UK (wherever you want to access), someone mentioned cyberghost - They are reputable, you can find a chat line on most VPN website, push them for a deal to match surfshark - express and Nord are also worth looking at. If you want to mention what you want a VPN, where you want to egress, maybe your devices or how you are going to implement the VPN the response would be more detailed.

Lol .. Issan residents are lazy and uneducated? Ready to rip you off at any moment; corrupt, primitive? All those educated westerners got their lessons from those YouTube videos that start “When I go to the village ..” go on to talk about “.. a farm girl” and end with “.. i’m happy to be home .. all that sitting on the floor..”

AirBnb host tells me they never make TM30
recom273 replied to daejung's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
AFAIK the wording is "housemaster" the person who is in charge of the rental - in my case, I was fined for not completing a TM30 (when no-one did it) The landlord told my wife to tell immigration to keep their fine, he wouldn't be paying it, not his problem. They then said my wife could be deemed "the housemaster" because she was the Thai person in charge of the rental. When we moved to our current rental, my wife took copies of the owners ID, the house book (both signed) my passport and everything, wifes ID and she filed the tm30. Khon Kaen immigration mentioned that it was the job of the owner, but accepted everything after we explained the landlady was just some old village woman with no transport - and then I threw the slip away, so when we went to get my yearly extension, then asked us to file another TM30 which we did with copies of the paperwork that we had. Won't you need to have a copy of the rental agreement / landlords ID and housebook for your retirement extension? -
Lol - you wife is prolly a wise woman. I don’t use public wifi, I have my data plan. if you spend 1000thb a month - give your provider a call, see what they can offer, they all have a special number that gives discount overseas calls. You might find it easier and cheaper to get a post pay package. I never regretted it, but I figure “pay-as-you-go” is a good way to keep overseas calls in check.
