Or make wider seats etc Otherwise they get on lift the arm rest and basically are sitting partially on our seat too. Prices are high enough that we should not be asked to share our seat

I have not read all 17 pages so it may have also been said already but...... Not all Thai families are the same. A couple decades ago before I married I asked my future Thai In-laws what was expected as I heard about Sinsod My in-laws were not well off but just retired farmers living in a small village. My future MIL said we do not sell our daughter but if you love her & she loves you we wish you happiness. That was that & I cannot say I was surprised as they raised my wife who thinks the same way. In the year that followed we helped them when we could to improve & rebuild their home & with little things. They lived till they were 93 & 89 great loving in-laws ! But as a side note...our neighbor in the village is my wife's sister. When her Thai son was getting married they had to give the Thai girls family 60k baht which was not easy for them either.

But in the US the brides family "traditionally" pays for wedding. "Dowry" So actually ????

Bad News Not to be rude but yes you have missed the boat but not the boat you think. You missed the boat of spending time with your daughter & wife. Although it is hard to tell from your post if that was something you wanted Good News You still have time. The boat you pretty much missed was the life with your Thai wife & watching your daughter growing up. The boat to move to Thailand was always there & still is. You still have some great years ahead if you choose to be in her life. Money wise what you describe is fine as most have said. It is not a lot but it is sufficient. Yes medical is the tough nut for all as they age but put a million or two aside for that & you should be ok. But mainly realize your 72 & you probably do not qualify nor can you afford insurance. So get on with it & enjoy your final years (if you want) with your daughter & wife rather than working towards some $$$ goal. At 72 you do not have all that much time left. Even if you remarkably had 20 years left that is just a blink of the eye. Remember Y2k? That was 23 years ago! If you were on your death bed now what would you be saying ? I wish I moved to Thailand years ago? or I wish I had more $$ to leave my daughter who I never really knew? Good Luck!

It comes & goes depending on many things. It was awhile back but I remember when it was the opposite So you just need to keep your bulk where you get the best rates I was getting 0.25% in the USA but in Thailand at Bank of Ayudhya (Krungsri) I was getting 4% in their Mee Tae Dai savings. Was very nice as I was making one months living expenses per year in interest off that account....Ah the good old days ????
