You can make transactions in any branch, you just need to take your passport with you (as well as your bank book).

If you overstay but make it to the airport unscathed you pay 500 baht per day. If you are arrested when you are on overstay it is much much worse - off to IDC for you. So you were lucky, if you'd been in an accident or anything whilst on overstay you would have been in major trouble. It just isn't worth the risk.

Yawn. I go to Singapore often. There is nothing redeeming about it. Soulless, boring, characterless. Probably why you like it. It's a great city for people who can't handle Asia, who live in this part of the world but still pine for the west. And yes, it is stupidly expensive.
