Economy Vietnam Tourism Threat Looms: Could It Overtake Thailand?
josephbloggs replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Where do you go? And for how long for each year? And why do you prefer it to Thailand? Honestly looking for personal insight. I like Vietnam but personally find it lacking compared to Thailand, but I am no Vietnam expert and I am not massively widely travelled there, so really interested to hear other opinions, not just those of the automatic Thai bashers. If you can share your comparisons I would love to hear. -
A nothing list. Anyone can find one that has any cuisine they like in the top 5. My question was which foods do you like? I am genuinely curious - why can't you answer? You think all Thai food tastes the same, so which cuisine do you like that doesn't all taste the same? It's like getting blood out of a stone....

Why have you used a picture of Maya Bay from several years ago? Maya Bay has been closed for long periods, it is closed for a few months every year, tourist numbers are strictly limited, and speedboat landings have been banned for years. Boats can only drop off at Loh Samah Bay on the back side, tourists are allowed one hour on the beach and can't go in the water beyond paddling. No swimming or snorkeling. Please keep up. -

I am a frequent(ish) visitor to Vietnam and must have been there 25 times. My first trip was in 1996. I have nothing against the place and think it's ok. But compared to Thailand it is lacking, Thailand has: Much better infrastructure. Better scenery (although Vietnam does have some beautiful scenery too), better food, nicer people, it's more fun, more vibrant, there's way more variety. In terms of the major cities HCMC is hard to walk around - yes, even compared to Bangkok. You get hassled by beggars and vendors. It is dirty, the scooters are a nightmare. It is easy to get ripped off, especially if you go to any of the hostess type bars. I like Vietnam, but I could never imagine living there. Thailand just has so much more to offer. -

Another poor hard done by farang. What "collateral damage" have you suffered exactly? And you do still get 60 days visa exempt, right? How long do most tourists spend here, two weeks? No hardships there. -

Vietnam's air quality is just as bad if not worse. My nephew had a full blown asthma attack there in March and it put him in hospital for three days. Have you walked around HCMC? Death trap pavements. Killer scooters. -

A one party system. No marriage equality or anti discrimination laws. No independent judiciary. No freedom of speech or expression. Very progressive. -

Yep. Anyone who calls that a "hoop" or something that will put people off is obviously too stupid to be able to book a flight anyway, so no loss. -

I'll take mine off when you take your turd tinted ones off - everything with you is a negative attack on Thailand and Thais. I've been to Vietnam probably 25 times. Nothing against it, it's alright, but it's not a patch on Thailand. You forget what this place is like for first time visitors because you are old and jaded and just hate everything. My nephew and his girlfriend recently spent three weeks traveling in Thailand and two in Vietnam. They enjoyed Vietnam but said Thailand was better in every way: better scenery (although Vietnam does have nice scenery), better infrastructure, better food, more fun, more variety, nicer people. Yes, Vietnam is cheaper but cheapest doesn't equal best. Anyway, my personal opinion based on living here for 30 years, having visited Vietnam probably 25 times and having neither rose, nor turd tinted glasses, I just see things as they are.- 152 replies

Yeah, where did they know where to go to interview someone in the SINALOAN cartel? Mmmmm, perhaps Sinaloa might be a good place to start don't you think?
