Economy Vietnam Tourism Threat Looms: Could It Overtake Thailand?

Another poor hard done by farang. What "collateral damage" have you suffered exactly? And you do still get 60 days visa exempt, right? How long do most tourists spend here, two weeks? No hardships there. -

Vietnam's air quality is just as bad if not worse. My nephew had a full blown asthma attack there in March and it put him in hospital for three days. Have you walked around HCMC? Death trap pavements. Killer scooters. -

A one party system. No marriage equality or anti discrimination laws. No independent judiciary. No freedom of speech or expression. Very progressive. -

Yep. Anyone who calls that a "hoop" or something that will put people off is obviously too stupid to be able to book a flight anyway, so no loss. -

Economy Vietnam Tourism Threat Looms: Could It Overtake Thailand?

I'll take mine off when you take your turd tinted ones off - everything with you is a negative attack on Thailand and Thais. I've been to Vietnam probably 25 times. Nothing against it, it's alright, but it's not a patch on Thailand. You forget what this place is like for first time visitors because you are old and jaded and just hate everything. My nephew and his girlfriend recently spent three weeks traveling in Thailand and two in Vietnam. They enjoyed Vietnam but said Thailand was better in every way: better scenery (although Vietnam does have nice scenery), better infrastructure, better food, more fun, more variety, nicer people. Yes, Vietnam is cheaper but cheapest doesn't equal best. Anyway, my personal opinion based on living here for 30 years, having visited Vietnam probably 25 times and having neither rose, nor turd tinted glasses, I just see things as they are.- 152 replies

Oh wow, good one - you said "lieland" instead of "Thailand"!! Vietnam isn't a patch on Thailand in many aspects.- 152 replies

You really think they made it up?? Why would they, what would be the point? You are delusional. -

Yeah, where did they know where to go to interview someone in the SINALOAN cartel? Mmmmm, perhaps Sinaloa might be a good place to start don't you think? -
It is true that they want you to book online but when I tried to book a slot online there were none available for weeks. So I prepared my documents, watched the video online and got my QR code, and turned up at Bang Chak at 1pm midweek. This was about six weeks ago. I handed over my docs, they checked them, then said they were full but could get me in on a date in about six weeks' time (by which time my CoR and medical certificate would have expired). I very politely explained that would be tricky for me as my license had expired already about a week earlier and getting new documents would be troublesome. He went away, came back and said he could get me in in three weeks. I said I wasn't going to be in Thailand that week (which was true), he went away again and came back and said "ok, today". He gave me a queue number and I was straight in to do the physical tests, then off for a photo and payment. It was a breeze. I left there with a new almost six year license an hour after turning up and being told come back in six weeks. If I'd just accepted what I was told I would have had to wait. But with a smile, speaking some Thai (I spoke to him in Thai, he translated all his replies to me into English using an app on his phone), and being super polite people will try to help you, they were genuinely nice. And no, they didn't ask for a bribe in case anyone is thinking that. Maybe I got very lucky, maybe he got laid that morning, maybe it was his birthday, or maybe they are just helpful if you ask nicely, I don't know. But no harm in trying as long as you go there with the mindset of being prepared to accept failure. Definitely the best and proper way to do it is to book a slot online though, for sure.

So you're the one who had all these imaginary scenarios at the DLT - several times, being shouted at etc. Now more nonsense. Proof of Address (Certificate of Residence) is mailed to you - it's how they, you know, validate that the address is real. You don't go back and pick it up. Please stop making things up in all these threads, you honestly have some issues.

Are you really so blinkered and immersed in the cult that you genuinely think if you are critical of Trump then you must support Sinaloan drug cartels? Do you really think like that?? If so there is absolutely no hope for you, you possess the logic of a three year old.- 40 replies

TM30 Self Reporting - system's stumped me.
josephbloggs replied to BusyB's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I did the original TM30 set up myself (my wife is technically my landlady). I did struggle with one issue but once resolved the rest was easy, and I got clear help on here. I'll dig out the thread as it might help you too. Edit: here it is. A silly thing that beat me, but apart from that all simple: -

Definitely no need after a trip within Thailand. From abroad there is mixed info, some people have said they've been told no need if staying in the same place. However I believe you are supposed to and I always do. Luckily I own my own home (well technically my wife does) so I don't need to bother a landlady/landlord. Once the account is up it literally takes about 30 seconds to do a new TM30 so not worth the risk of not doing it if you can do it yourself. -
Another Smedly special. What's so funny? Care to explain? 466 foreign film shoots in Thailand in 2023 (movies, TVCs, TV series), and 34 of those were American productions. Thailand hosts more film productions than any other SE Asian nation by quite a long way. Hollywood has been shooting here since the 60s. I know the world "hub" gets used a lot here, but in film production it really is a regional hub, and anyone who laughs at that notion is completely ignorant. Hi Smedly.

What utter nonsense. Is your whole experience of Thai food limited to fried rice with pork or chicken? Admittedly they do taste quite similar.

America is a terrible place to shoot. Extremely expensive and extremely unionised. -
Qatar Airways offer a free overnight stay if you want to. Actually it is free up to three nights I believe. Free for four star, pay 345 baht per night to upgrade to a 5-star. 862 baht per night to upgrade to 5-star with beach access, or 2,447 baht to go for one of the top iconic hotels. It's a great offer, and if you're flying to the UK it's a good break right in the middle. Just go to their site, click on "Qatar Stopover", enter your dates and make your choice.
