Thai SSO Yellow Book
BigStar replied to Max_Headroom's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Fairly standard requirement, but you have it all wrong. You get a certified copy of your passport page at the Embassy. With that certified copy you get a Thai translation approved by the MFA. No, you don't have to go to CW, but find a translation service to do it, send it to MFA, and send it back to you. Your other docs don't contain that defnitive official translation of your name. BTW, the translation on other official docs, if there is one, should match. That's a gotcha, so if you have other translations, show them to the translator who's dealing w/ MFA. No. PAY 🙂. You skint? My two Thai witness were glad to help, and I gave each a nice little gift afterwards. Smiles all around, very pleasant. Oh, think of all the money you'll be paying docs, hsps, and pharmacies w/o SS health insurance. Suddenly it's in perspective. Not wasted at all, but a fantastic investment. 🙂 Brilliant. Been great living my Pattaya condo for a couple of decades, no regrets. -

So just as I thought, bozo, no progress. Why imply there was? Hence, asking whether you were ready to get started was nothing if not a reasonable question. And you might have answered that truthfully with a "yes," assuming you could get over the "inconsistencies." You had all the info you needed. Glad you've started! 🙂 Why, yes, you did. Listen to the knowledgeable posters bothering to take the time to respond. Others may also benefit from your thread here on this public forum. It really isn't a personal chat, you see. I would like to ask you to step away from posting. Otherwise, in a spirit of benevolence and public service, I'll just continue to relate my info on the subject and attempt to clarify your muddle. You're welcome. I will, and hello. If you need help in refraining from further personal attacks, help is at hand. -

Your Executor ensures they keep the agreement, of course. If you have no one you can trust to serve as Executor for such a reverent task, as seems likely in your case, perhaps you can at least pay some bargirl to dump you in Pattaya Bay. Otherwise, some Thai gov't entity will dispose of you. Some of our members may have more specific details about this. Happened to an old friend of mine in Vietnam who'd turned into an obnoxious drunk. No friends, no relatives would admit knowing him. Police removed his body and that was that. -

Bit of a ditherer, really, You seem stymied by all the supposed inconsistency. Nor have you announced any real progress I'm aware of. So if you have, then what's the progress? Let's not add mystery to the drama. -
BBL bank photo copies of Visa page.

For a deposit my bank only asks for ID. Could be a Thai DL, but I use my pink card. -

It might have something to do with So you can figure that out, you're intelligent. Maybe that phrase old exclusive number system died is key. Fact is, I went to my hsp with my SS ID card, expecting free treatment under SS, that I'd been paying for monthly, and was DENIED. Not in the system. SSO didn't know I had any pink card. WOT??? I didn't know about the new system, either. Now our betting man, @bigt3116, bets that 95% of people, that is, non-Thais, are using SS IDs. I suggest they'd better be up-to-date and not smugly count on using some old card unused in quite a while, as I did. Better yet, get a pink card. You all good now? -

Agree, as I said earlier. One thing to do in advance, for all you preparers, is to look around for a Wat where you can get very own funerary stupa, like this: How cool is that? Specify your best photo as a young person, maybe photoshop in your wife/gf in a romantic pose to get her on board. Thais tend to use the latest photos of you old, decrepit, and decayed. They'll blow them up at your ceremony, so everybody has to look at it and remember you as a near corpse. These stupas can be decorated somewhat, so you could scatter in a few fave logos, such as: If you can't find such a Wat conveniently located, then Plan B would be to find one with a sort of wall columbarium with a niche for your urn, like this: Your beneficiaries will appreciate the savings. Quite tasteful, not so ostentatious as the stupa. Otherwise, you can't do better than just Pattaya Bay, near the girls and go-gos. I know a few people (former people) out there feeding the fishes. -

What a poor gambler. I hope your caregiver keeps you away from casinos. When I attempted to use my old SS ID card at a hospital for the first time, they looked online, as hospitals do, and couldn't find the number. Therefore, no free care for me that day. And I was religiously up-to-date with my payments, too. I had to go to the SSO office in Laemchabang with my pink card to get updated in the system. THEN I had no further problems. Just a lil' heads up for any o' you smug SS ID cardholders. 🙂 -

The solution is to get a yellow book & pink card just as SSO told you. That's been 100% consistent throughout the thread. The procedures needed to get them vary somewhat according to circumstances. Patience is consistently required. You've been told this: and this Time to get started? -

More than 95% of people are who use Thai SS don't have pink cards because they have Thai ID cards. And that's exactly what they use. It's always been difficult for ANF forum members to admit that Thais are people. Such is the bigotry I guess. Live and learn. -

I'm happy right where I am. Thailand forever! -
No. You've falsely assumed that Thailand is somehow obligated to apply the same standards. No such obligation exists, and you were never guaranteed that it does when you fell off the boat. A wide degree of discretion exists in how laws may be applied, according to various circumstances. Moreover, as testified here numerous times, farangs can and do win court cases against Thais. Many of the farang complaints are about the application of Immigration regulations, which can't be applied to Thais anyway. Immigration applies those regs in any way it sees fit. There's no "trial." Farang claims of being victims of xenophobia, or rather, that their farang privilege hasn't been sufficiently respected, and whinging, is endemic. The more you ignore the whinging and don't engage in it yourself, the more you'll enjoy your life in Thailand. Accept that you'll follow all the laws and regs strictly (no matter whether YOU agree with or understand them), stay away from dodgy people and situations, and you'll be just fine.

New Labour Government Promises To Fix British Teeth By 2025 -
Excellent. Hope nothing drastic will be required. TURP has been mentioned, but it caused @ThaiPaulyterrible life-changing side effects; shouldn't have, but did. From reading about his experience, I'd never risk it.

Ray Kurzweil Still Says He Will Merge With AI Many of us are already out of work. Hence the even greater importance of PCs. I'm finding that people I used to know in the USA are no longer answering their phones or emails. Nor are their obituaries published. Hmm. Problem is, mailing them from Thailand has become rather expensive and unreliable.

In the old days, they gave you a SS ID card w/ number. That changed some years ago. Now the SS number is the pink card number. Hospitals use the card every visit to check you're enrolled, if you're trying to use SS. Somebody posted some time ago that this could be worked around, with some effort, and the office would issue you a number, maybe a SS card as well, I forgot. But the pink card works beautifully, useful in various other situations, and hospitals like it 'cause it's got your address info etc. in Thai. That's really the way to go. -
Great, great series for SF fans. Went off the rails in the last season or so, but still watchable. Talk's cheap on the 'net. In other circumstances, you could well decide you were just abysmally wrong about that.

Avoid Being the Stereotypical American When Travelling Abroad
BigStar replied to Social Media's topic in World News
Aimed at idiots of all nationalities. Superfluous here, except for the "know it all" point, in a forum blessed with a majority of highly credentialed, authoritative, cynical know-it-alls, often uttering predictions and prophecies to Thailand's detriment. Notably, bigotry was left out, but more characteristic of another particular nationality known for its pretensions to superiority and constant unfavorable comparisons of Thailand to their home country. As an American, I totally agree with the "speaking too loudly" point. Not all Americans do, of course, but the percentage who do is rather too large. I'd note that the same can be said about certain other nationalities, but even among the supposed quieter ones, you may unfortunately run into exceptions. Reminds me that I really enjoyed my years living in Japan.
