In the era of Lazada & Shopee then Santisuk is well past its sellby date, I've not been there in years and can think of no reason why I might ever need go there again. Kimyong is different, it's somewhere the wife goes to find particular pastes and spices, especially before going home to visit family in Prachuap. Kimyong it seems sells many ingredients that are hard to find, or particularly treasured. I avoid the place, nothing that I need there, and I find it somewhat claustrophobic. .

Who killed the British Motor Industry ?
Stocky replied to Social Media's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The 'All Agro' An truly awful car. There was a joke about the definition of a Brummie - someone born within the sound of the Longbridge alarm clocks The failure to modernise, then the stupidity of nationalising (simply propping up a failing industry), then finally the unions protecting outdated work practices were the final nail in the coffin. -
Scammed on Wise, how did this happen?

If you're registered with Wise in Thailand the debit card is not available. -
You need to go back to studying the history of Islam in the Malay Peninsular. Islam did not become the majority religion through invasion and conquest rather, as with Christianity in Europe, it was through conversion. In the case of the Kingdom of Pattani the conversion of Raja Intera around 1470 precipitated the conversion of most of his subjects. Islam became the dominate religion in the region in the same way Hinduism and Buddhism superseded older animist beliefs, via trade and cultural exchange. Precisely the reason why old Sanskrit words like Bumiputra persist in the Malayu language. Demonstrating it was a gradual process of assimilation rather than sudden conquest. .

Wise account opening
Stocky replied to kiko11's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I signed up to Wise from Thailand sending money from an account in Singapore, doesn't need to be money from a Thai account. Just needs to be from an account in your name. . -
Yes, Wise acts as it's own partner bank.
-
Wise is P2P - money in one country is matched with money at a partner bank in the corresponding country. Wise use Kasikorn, Bangkok Bank and Dee Money as partners in Thailand. So transferring money from the UK to Thailand the money never leaves the UK, the sum is simply matched with one of their partners who need GBP, the partner bank makes the payment in Thailand with the money they want transferred to the UK, Wise make the payments the partner banks wants made in the UK. I works in exactly the same way for transfers to any other country. P2P bypasses the need to make international transfers with SWIFT or IBAN. .

Indeed, my overall experience with Lazada is positive, most deliveries are on time and what's in the box is what I ordered. So I can live with a few local retailers using sleight of hand and in reality being forwarding agents for China. I just pay greater attention to the retailers reviews.
-
I've not had them cancel on me, but the 'packed' and can't cancel malarkey yes and increasingly so. From the evidence of the goods when received, far from being local the goods have come from China and forwarded, hence the delay. I guess the supplier isn't willing to keep stock on hand. I now pay closer attention the ships on time rating, I very seldom pay in advance, COD preferred.

You still on this anti-WISE crusade? Last time I had an issue with WISE was sending money to one of my sub-contractors in Malaysia and I picked the wrong bank. When the money didn't arrive I realised what I'd done and emailed them. I had an immediate response that they would follow-up. Sure enough a couple more emails between us confirming where the money should go and the transfer was completed. This was last year. My experiences over 5 years have been positive. They're not a bank and they pay no interest, so I'm not about to use them as such, but they are an excellent way to move money. Re the issue of first use on a card, I think it's the contactless payment feature that's the problem, so long as the amount is small it doesn't require authentication. Only after several payments will it trigger a request to either enter a pin or verify on the app. -

14-year-old girl killed in front of a mosque in Pattani
Stocky replied to snoop1130's topic in Southern Thailand News
If anyone bothered to read the article in full. Not all violence in the south is related to the insurgency. -
They're not a bank and you shouldn't use them as such, they are a P2P money transfer business and a good one at that. I've been happy to use them since 2018 and money is seldom delayed by much and more unusually arrives in seconds, they've saved me thousands. I seriously doubt they will "dissapear overnight" and I have no idea what information you have that would indicate them as "borderline ......pretty dodgy". Care to explain?!

Looking for a Smart Watch to track my sleep .
Stocky replied to tomgreen's topic in IT and Computers
Android 6 on your phone is a serious limitation. I use a Withings sleep tracking mat, I couldn't be doing with using a watch, the mat is placed below the mattress and that's it. It links to an app on my phone, but that requires Android 8 or better. The sleep mat was $120 from Amazon. https://www.withings.com/us/en/sleep -
