North Korea says it has developed more-advanced hydrogen bomb - KCNA

SEOUL (Reuters) - North Korea said on Sunday it has developed a more advanced nuclear weapon that has "great destructive power" and leader Kim Jong Un inspected a hydrogen bomb that will be loaded on a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM).

The report by North Korea's official KCNA news agency comes amid heightened regional tension following Pyongyang's test launch of two ICBM-class missiles in July that potentially had a range of about 10,000 km (6,200 miles) that could hit many parts of the mainland United States.

Under its leader Kim Jong Un, North Korea has pursued work on building nuclear weapons and long-range ballistic missiles that can deliver them at an unprecedented pace, defying U.N. sanctions and international pressure.

Experts and officials have said North Korea could conduct its sixth nuclear test at any time, and that the reclusive country has maintained a readiness at its nuclear test site to conduct another detonation test at any time.

The hydrogen bomb's power is adjustable to hundreds of kilotons and can be detonated at high altitudes, with its indigenously produced components allowing the country to build as many nuclear weapons as it wants, KCNA news agency said.

Kim visited the country's Nuclear Weapons Institute and "watched an H-bomb to be loaded into new ICBM," KCNA said. "All components of the H-bomb were homemade and all the processes ... were put on the Juche basis, thus enabling the country to produce powerful nuclear weapons as many as it wants, he said."

Juche is North Korea's homegrown ruling go-it-alone ideology that is a mix of Marxism and extreme nationalism preached by state founder Kim Il Sung, the current leader's grandfather.

Kim Jong Un "set forth tasks to be fulfilled in the research into nukes," KCNA said, but it made no mention of plans for a sixth nuclear test.

North Korea last year conducted its fourth and fifth nuclear tests, saying the fourth in January 2016 was a successful hydrogen bomb test, although outside experts questioned whether it was a full-fledged hydrogen bomb.

The fifth nuclear test in September 2016 was measured to be possibly North Korea's biggest detonation ever, but the earthquake it caused was still not believed to be big enough to demonstrate a thermonuclear test.

U.S. officials have told Reuters that while North Korea has had parts in place for a nuclear detonation going back several months, no new activity has been seen recently at its known nuclear test site in Punggye-ri in its northeastern region.

I'm not sure what you are talking about.   None of your posts have been removed.

What gets me is ... this last 'test' actually flew over Japan, did it not ? And armed or not, if the fuel or propulsion system 'fizzed out' and the test bomb fell out of the sky onto main land Japan, there could be a huge loss of lives as it fell on a City/Town hitting large buildings as it dropped to the streets below, shattering glass, and creating other debris,  possibly landing on a bus or two, plus cars, people etc. on a main street ... etc. etc. ... surely that in itself is enough to wake the UN up and do something about these 'tests' ... Kim, can't say; "Whoops, sorry, that was just a test, we forgot to check the fuel level on that one ..." ... ???

I am presuming it would be in space when over Japan, not whistling over the treetops.

What goes up ... must come down .... unless its that high it burns up on the way in ... but some pieces must escape and get through ...

I think they do go that high up, but I am certainly no authority on the issue.

Just found this on the net ... they fly pretty high .... note;

"1200 kilometres high officially 'Space' commences around 100 klms ... GPS Sats are around 200 klms ... and they mention the nose cone has to be well protected before re-entry to prevent the thing going off before reaching the target ...." ... so Hmmmm ... maybe Countries are protected that that these fly over ... !

Bet it won't stop sensationalist headlines, though...

kim jung ill the great leader does not develop anything. he makes shopping trips to macao where everything is available. looks like he has unboxed a teller ullman nuclear device. so far so good but he still needs a reentry vehicle like the type 4a built at aldermaston in england and copied by the americans. you won't find that in macao. the world can breathe a bit longer. such a beautiful country with such beautiful people deserve better than this but unlike east germany there is no sign of a regime change.

For the re-entry..

"For each goal overpressure there is a certain optimum burst height at which the blast range is maximized over ground targets. In a typical air burst, where the blast range is maximized to produce the greatest range of severe damage, i.e. the greatest range that ~10 psi (69 kPa) of pressure is extended over, is a GR/ground range of 0.4 km for 1 kiloton (kt) of TNT yield; 1.9 km for 100 kt; and 8.6 km for 10 megatons (Mt) of TNT. The optimum height of burst to maximize this desired severe ground range destruction for a 1 kt bomb is 0.22 km; for 100 kt, 1 km; and for 10 Mt, 4.7 km."

I am sure if truly the NK were a clear and present threat to the South Koreans, Japan and US Pacific territories e.g Hawaii, Guam, etc that the USA would have a plan . 1. Using M.o.a.b,s to take out the NK batteries threatening Seoul, Followed by massive rocket artillery to clean up. Then using their much vaunted tactical ability to neutralise NK Nuclear ability. Or is the USA just a paper Tiger with an over bloated Defence Budget and incapable of any serious Military activity apart from over throwing 3rd World regimes?
