I got a tefl, I know some Thai and a bit of the Thai alphabet. I'm a hard worker.

2,500 baht seems fair. I wonder if I could use one of the schools outhouses as temporary acomodation whilst I go shed hunting.

I know a lot of people who speak English, doesn't mean they can teach it.

Fully agree, but a Thai sports teacher, or music teacher,  or science etc, would have a better chance of teaching Thai than English like many have to do in small schools.

So better than nothing.

Depends really.

 

I've taught kids who were so badly taught in the past, that half the year was spent unlearning the misconceptions they had taken on board. 

 

Sometimes, nothing is better than crap teaching.

In '77-'79, I made about 2,500 Baht/mo in the Peace Corps, plus a 500 Baht housing allowance I think it was.  Teachers scraped by on that.  But I was lucky that the Thai Land Development department paid per diem for field work.  Of course, we were always in the field, or at least sitting outside on the porch. That about doubled my income. 555

 

In '79/'80, I worked in refugee resettlement.  That was more like 20,000/mo, plus housing and generous per diem expenses.  But that money was from the U.S.
