I've been covered by BUPA Platinum 2 million insurance plan for several years in Thailand. Service and hospital coverage has been top notch. The insurance broker I buy BUPA health cover has been most helpful. I had two elective surgeries in 2017. I was in VIP rooms for six days in Isaan hospitals. The two nights at Bangkok Korat hospital were a better experience on many levels than a different private hospital. But no run around on payments and coverage in my personal experiences. The annual premium JUMPED 1988 baht from last year to this year. I can live with that. I can afford 7116 baht a month, paid annually for top notch health insurance. No limitations were placed on the 2018 policy even though I had two different medical procedures in 2017. The policy document, benefits booklet, list of hospitals and clinics and the invoice are in Thai and English. For me this is affordable and clear cut. I understand in two years my premium will be raised as I will be 65.

I believe BUPA Thailand have been bought by an American outfit,

so expect premiums to rise even more, you know how expensive

health insurance is there !

BUPA Thailand was bought by Aetna. Current BUPA Thailand policies -- except for accident insurance coverage -- do not cover medical treatment in the USA.

damn.  the rates on their en website are getting high.   That BUPA buyout by Aetna is not helping rates, from what I can see.    I am 61.  Platinum starts at like 6700 baht/month.  But, in the USA, the cheapest medical plan for an individual such as me, that is not working but has passive income and will not qualify for subsidies will be $850/month!  Last year that would have been $550/ month. So I am in the limbo age range.  I can't get medicare until 65, but I don't plan on working until 65.  My current  aerospace employer is only costing me $72/month and I make a good salary.  I have plenty of money and income to retire, but the medical of like $10,000 a year is just absurd.  In 2019 Americans will no longer be required to have Obamacare plans, but I always want insurance.  Since I was planning on retiring or spending 1/2 of the year in Thailand, I figured I would get BUPA in Thailand.  Boy, I worked hard all my life, planned well financially, and now the systems are really trying gouge on this medical thing.

What age will XGM be in 2019?  BUPA was clear in raising rates every 5 years.

It's not the increase due to moving to another age group we are talking about. I thought this is obvious. The premiums for all the age groups were increased. I suggest you check the new rates.

What's the best alternative to BUPA?

If you live in either Chuang Mai or Pattaya look into the group pans available through the respective Expat clubs. otherwise:

Thailand-based insurer: MSH

Internationally based: Cigna Global, AXA
