Rimmer
Decaying Jomtien playground only the latest neglected Pattaya investment PATTAYA:--Pattaya’s habit of purchasing equipment and ignoring maintenance became evident again in Jomtien Beach where a three-month old playground already has fallen into disrepair. City spokesman Pinit Maneerat had to address the media about the unattended children’s play area Aug. 31 following complaints about deteriorating equipment and a lack of supervision. Pinit said the playground – built during the first phase of the Jomtien Beach facelift – is the responsibility of the Environment Department. However, the equipment has not proven durable and its decay is exacerbated by the salt air so close to the ocean. He said city hall was aware of the problem, but Pattaya has a lot of irons in the fire and hasn’t gotten around to it. He said the Environment Department is looking into repairs or replacements. Meanwhile, the city will impose opening and closing hours for the playground to improve safety. Emster23
" Pinit said the playground – built during the first phase of the Jomtien Beach facelift ..." Clearly he is clueless. I live nearby. This was built in a recent phase, after the major abominations were considered "done". I wouldn't say the last phase, for who knows if there is ever an end to this nonsense. champers
For 100% safety record the facility can be closed down and never re-opened.
Pdaz
They buy very poor quality equipment. They use cheap mild steel fittings, cheap paint and don't prepare anything. Add poor quality workmanship and anything they build is lucky to last 6 Months. Don't know why they bother.

The original specifications were probably OK, but by the time the contractor has paid all the kick backs all he can afford to install is inferior equipment. Pdaz
Or the contractor just buys cheap junk to increase his profit margin. The whole system is rotten.

In order to provide a temporary setting/backdrop for a photo-call demonstrating the determination and success of the "nobs" in their endless, selfless task of improving the lives of the people, whose well-being is their prime consideration. Then it's back to the "irons in the fire". The size of the iron being dependent on the size of the nob. Edited September 15, 2017 by Enoon

Let's be fair to K. Pinit - Nobody could have guessed there would be salt air close to the ocean? I bet there's been some pesky kids climbing all over it too. mikebell
'Don't know why they bother.' To serve the community or garner some cash from awarding the contract to a family member? Let me see.....on reflection, I think the latter.

johng
The "pirate park" as I have named it, is very popular with lots of scallywags and scurvy dogs ( kids ) using it late afternoon to early evening. It's about the only good thing to come from the beachfront "renovations"While I don't think kids should be wrapped in cotton wool some of the exercise machines are potentially lethal. The Angry bird stand on roundabout broke very quickly transforming into a foot crushing machine but luckily it soon came completely away from it's mountings and sits forlornly in a corner.Good idea but poorly implemented.
