Video: Malaysian big bikers on tour ignoring the Thai laws!

A dash cam video from south Thailand posted on Facebook showed a gang of Malaysian bikers blocking an intersection so their mates could whiz through a red light.

Some netizens were up in arms saying it was terrible that their southern neighbors would flout the Thai law in this way. And the poster said that if people waiting to turn hadn't sounded their horns they would have blocked off the intersection for much longer.

But after some of the Malaysians posted an apology on the page that features material from Hat Yai in Songkhla, many Thais just said - "Oh, that's all right then!"

The incident happened at an intersection on the morning of last Friday.

The Rath reported that there were more than 100 bikers in the gang on tour in Thailand.

Malaysian ignoring Thai laws

Thai ignoring Thai laws (if they knew them in the first place)

Thai police not knowing Thai laws (or enforcing them if they did know them)

And then they wonder why they are ranked in the top 5 worst countries for driving...

obviously the Thais down south are very polite. If that was tried in some parts Central or North Thailand they'd be scrapping a few Malay bikers off the road.

Are you joking?  Malay bikers are only trying to drive like Thais. And from North Thailand or South it's the same behaviour.

Blocking intersection, even if not 100% correct, is the safest way to pass when riding in convoy, in order to avoid to split it up and rick incident caused by misunderstanding with other road users (I know is a pain if you are the one blocked at red light...)any organized group of bikers ( or other convoys) I have ever saw in Thailand does like this, probably for a convoy that long they should have asked for police escort (and they would have blocked the intersection).

Just as usual the rant is because the bikers were foreigners, guess if the shock would have been the same in case was one of the local MC...

I do not mind, as long it is safe, and I have seen that a couple of times here in Hat Yai. Those Malay riders block the intersection, whilst Thai folks, either with a car or motorcycle regularly run a red light or two in a row.

It's illegal and they have absolutely no right to obstruct other road users. A considerable number of motor bike readers here seem to think that the traffic laws don't apply to them - ignore traffic signals, red lights, ride the wrong way up roads, don't bother with crash helmets, carry several children and pets on their bike, allow underage kids to ride, etc etc.

Up to them. But they can't complain if they get splattered and certainly won't get any sympathy.

So it's ok for any group who fancies to ignore the law and do as they please in "every civilized country" is it?

It's the safest way for a convoy to pass...but then again safety and Thailand should not been pronounced in the same sentence !?!?,...and by the way, have you been on driving the roads in Thailand recently ???

There is a very big difference between a convoy, with police arranging free passage,
and a gang of whoever taking the law in their own hands.

Are people on motorbikes so immature that they cannot travel in smaller groups and gather at a predetermined place?.
Similar to Chinese cars clans that are just impeding the flow of traffic, and some even refuse overtakers to merge back into "their" lane.

Is always like that when a big group of motorcycles is traveling together. Is ok and follow the international law for convoy like that.

"the international law for convoy "
glad to see that we have people on TV who went to Law School.

I've seen it plenty times in central Thailand.

They even get escorted by police with wailing lights.

I agree, it is against the law.

However, a convoy of 100+ bikes, spread out in several groups, waiting to get together again, due to the breakup at traffic lights, might be more dangerous on the whole as blocking intersections.

Another case of not pushing traffic laws to the letter of the law.

I have not seen one in Thailand yet, but rode a couple of tours with a BMW owners club in the states. 100 participants would not surprise me one bit.
It is a safe way to handle an intersection, but I agree that a police escort would have made things a bit more organized. Would Thai police go along, d'ya think?
