Thai baby girl name ideas

Featured Replies

Hello,

I have searched Google and through these forums a bit and discovered a few baby girl names, but I am still yet to find a name I love, hence being interested in hearing any suggestions you may have?

Thank you :)

Are you looking for Thai names or nicknames.

Call her however you like, her grand parents will give her a nickname and everyone will call her by it.
It's Thai unwritten law

Phuchisa, Chattanika, Narisara (one of my faves), Kanrawee, Alisa, Sansanee, Pattira, Jittarat, Dusadee, Nattida. Thanaporn

Looking for names over nicknames right now...

Porn is great, so is Rat, but doesn't work so well in the UK so unfortunately not ??

A name without the letter 'r'.  If it's easy for all the family to say , the less chance if any they will give her a nickname.  My daughter is named Olivia...she has no nickname..so far at nearly 8 years ?

Pusay.

Short and sweet....like the character from Orange is the new Black.

Why have a Thai name? She is going to be surrounded by everything Thai, give her the name you prefer.  Mine do not have a Thai name at all, but have Thai nicknames made by friends and family from the Western style name.

Fuk... Pumpkin...  is popular...  I had a kid in one of my classes called James Bond..  he had no idea about who James Bond is.. and I had to teach him to spell it.. My niece is called 'Cartoon'.. I thought it odd at the time but love it now.. and her.. 'Porn' of course is classic.. and lovely.. meaning blessed...   A friend's wife is called 'Moo'.. I'm still a bit uncomfortable calling her ''Pig'!

My daughter has one of the beautiful long Thai names, but her nickname is "Eve".  And it sounds and works out very well here.

I have 2 girls and they have Thai and English names.

Athima - Annie

Kunrada - Emma

All the letters of the alphabet:
A
B
C

D.....

yea, a friend's son is called james bond, and i have a friend Terd who told me his best friend is called Poo, a friend's wife is Moo as well, and a friend's daughter Donut.

I was dating a university lecturer and a student came into her office for a chat, he was a chubby chap called Ouan, it seemed very strange for a lecturer to be openly calling a student fat to his face.

Nataree phonetics in Thai = na da dee = nice looking face

I am assuming that the young lady concerned is of mixed heritage. You should therefore try to give her names that can adapt to both cultures. A couple of my faves are

Marisa (Marissa/Melissa, especially since Thais have difficulty with their R's)

Janejira (can become Jane)

Apasara (Sarah)

Chimlin (Lynn)

But there are many more

As to Thai nicknames, your Thai family will help with this, but I am sure they will allow you input. I hope they dont go for some of the modern horrors like "Benz". Porn would cause all kinds of problems in the Western world. I like the old ones like Noi, Maew, Uan (especially when they are thin!!) etc etc.

Happy choosing

The official Thai name of my daughter is Natanisha, but her English name is Jasmine and that's what we call her all the time :)

Make sure it's something mum can pronounce - I was going to call mine Claudia but it proved a tongue twister and sounded all wrong when my wife said it.  The old 'l' and 'r' problem. Turned out it was a boy anyway. Good luck.

I’m a fan of Siri. From my research apparently means ‘splendor’

Combined with Porn, you get Silly Porn!

I liked Chalisa, western nickname of Lisa

There's an important historic event coming up soon, a royal funeral. Why not honor the late king with a name that marks your daughter's entry on the scene? Bhumiporn is a feminine version version of the beloved, departed king's name.

The girl I knew was Sirirat and it was pronounced See-Ree with quite an emphasis on rilling the R.

No porn sadly! lol

I've had students with terrible names in the past... Airbus, Ferrari, uefa, man-u..... Urgh!

I would like her to have either a Thai name & more western 'nickname' or a shorter & pronounceable western name without a nickname... Husband really wants her to have a traditional Thai name, hence asking for some advice, all of which is much appreciated :) some very nice suggestions so far.
