PHUKET:-- Officials today moved to clear garbage and other debris strewn along Nai Yang Beach that has been pushed onshore by the southwest monsoon over the past few days.

Kittikorn Prateep Na Thalang, Chief of the Sakoo Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor), ordered the clean-up and led 15 fellow officials to clear the garbage from the beach this afternoon (Oct 2).

Mr Kittikorn also welcomed any help from the public. “We are open for any people who have the heart to save the beach to support us. We welcome everyone to join us,” he said.

are there any garbage dumps or "mount Refuses" on Phuket?  Where do the garbage collectors take the garbage?  Is there a land fill?  Do they just put the trash on a barge and dump it off shore as some countries are known to do?  Seriously, does anybody have any first hand accounts of what the large scale trash disposal system is?

Same thing happens every year when the currents change- no biggy. Part of the huge 'plastic islands' that roam the world's oceans these days

Quite sad that a bunch of local school students did a beach clean-up at Nai Yang on Saturday.

They mightn't bother again if they see this article.

Nothing new here, when you dump all your garbage and sewage in to the ocean, it works great when the tide goes out but sometime you get it all back. Money for submarines and bullet trains but no money for garbage treatment/sewage treatment. Maybe they can put nets on the submarines to ketch the garbage.

The landfill is in Saphan  Hin along with the incinerators.
