On these forums many times i have read about guys not getting "respect" from Thais ,well i have never been disrespected ,overcharged ,asked for a bribe (well once by a cop in BKK) and my wife and i al

  • In over 6 years, I've never left my BKK apartment complex without long pants, a collared shirt and socks.  And within the complex, the only time I'm missing one of those items is to swim in the pool.

This all escalated very quickly.

I find it relatively simple. Usually you will not be offending people in your local community as they all know you and accept you. If on the beach, you also will not be offending anyone - as people who go to the beach generally know what they are in for.

If you are in a public area that doesn't warrant being half nude, then there is no need for it. It is not a massive deal, but the issues it can create are probably bigger than the benefits it brings. Don't say you came for the weather, but then cannot take the heat.

We really having 'fashion' arguments? We really threatening violence or saying how tough we are over a forum re having or not having tattoos? Tattoos are supposedly a personal thing that means something to the individual. I accept they have become more about art now, but really that art should be important to the individual, not the rest of the world. If you have them or not have them who cares (I have 5 relative big ones- I am not anti tattoo). The point is if they are on parts of the body people don't need to see (as majority of mine are), then don't feel the need to show them - just like people without tattoos should not have the need to show people their bodies in overly public spaces full of strangers.

Yeah , but could the Thai Red bull guy who killed the Policeman get away with walking around with no shirt on ?

a telling quote from my 5 year old Thai niece , on seeing shirtless farangs in the street for the first time: 'Why have they got no shirt, are they very poor'?  My answer was yes, they are.

No, you should have said they come from a free country where they can do what they like...great.gif.d956a18d2545d929c9b05112f620b544.gif

Personally - on the flip side....

Am always dissappointed when we go to the beach & all the beautiful Thai women are covered up......

Try the bars instead. No coverups there.

To that the little girl might have replied: So when are they going back?

Her actual reply was 'I dont like this place I want to go back to Uncle's house'

Nor is the UK theirs but those Thai who are there just love the freedom and other stuff...thumbs.gif.de0003dcff46264b19d096a8d804e8e9.gif

I love the other stuff here or I wouldn't be here freedom or not.

Good to see intergenerational judgemental prejudice training is alive and well.

Ironically, most Thais seem to act like it isn't theirs either.

Because they are devoid of decency & respect for the culture and the people of that culture....

Odds are good these people would represent themselves badly/cluelessly/carelessly anywhere....

It sad when they dress worse than the Thais + stick out like sore thumbs....Makes all of us look bad....

And also devoid of any respect for themselves.

On hot humid days, my shirt will be soaking wet, sticky, and very uncomfortable; consequently, I take off my shirt - at least until I cool down. Now if only babes would adopt said habit.

Obviously a sad old prim 'n proper (and prejudiced) Brit.

I'm not the one doing offensive and dis respectful stuff in public as in the poster to whom I replied.

Manners cost nothing and he appears to not have any.

I've lived here permanently for 14 years and counting. I do not have to prove ANYTHING to YOU. Nor am I interested in what YOU have done for the Thai nation.

Doubt i'll be chucked out because I aint done nothing wrong, i'm legal, most people (Thai) know me in my vicinity, I speak the lingo fluently and get along with most folks (Thai) fine. Also have plenty of Thai friends from all walks of life. Felangs - not so much. Strange that, innit?

GFY.

Wrong! "A prim 'n proper Brit" would know how to spell "riddance"!

Strange? No, no surprise at all.

I keep meaning to start a list of all the different spellings of farang I see. Not too many different pronunciations about though. Yes I know, get a life, drink more etc.

What  aliens/farlang spend in LOS, is far more important , than what they wear.

To walk around half naked, can not serve as an excuse "because it's hot".
The British have ruled India for a long time, wearing "Victorian-Fashion". They died of all kinds of things, but hardly ever of heat-stroke.
To restore respect and superiority: Let's all dress up like Albert and Victoria. The Taxi-Drivers will do battle to drive us around town.
---------------------
On the other hand: In a country, where "looks and appearance" is everything, having some half naked Farang-Primates galloping around in public, no wonder they are only respected and measured by the size of their wallet.
But then, maybe they have no other ambition (or option), knowing well, that 99 % of Thai-Ladies would not consider a serious relationship with a Farang-Primate, him preferring to walk around half naked in broad daylight.
Cheers.

Are said primates capable of proper post secondary school English composition?

Yes, even by using punctuation (comma's), long sentences is a "no-no". Violating the KISS-Rule (Keep It Simple and Stupid).
HeHe.
Cheers.
