"When dad asks me if I am tired I just lie and say no" - says exhausted 12 year old caring for paralyzed father

Sanook reported on the story of a 12 year old girl who is forced to rummage in the trash and sell vegetables in the market to scrape money together to care for her paralyzed father.

The story came to light on the Facebook page of Poramet Misonphop, a foundation medic who visited the family and has provided some basic assistance to the father and daughter.

Twelve year old Satang said that her mum and sibling have left them all alone.

"When my dad asks me if I am tired - I just lie and say no" said the preteen whose life is unlike her friends who have many things.

She said that 5 years ago her father - who used to be a construction contractor - fell three floors while at work.

Two or three months after that her mother said she was taking her and her younger sibling away.

"I was seven," said Satang. "I asked if I could stay with dad - I said who would look after him if I leave too?"

Right now Satang's life is hard - she manages to get a daily income of 50 to 100 baht selling vegetables in the market and finding items in the trash that might be worth something.

A fund has been set up in the name of her father - Narin Arunwong - at Krung Thai bank account number 217 - 0 - 38423 - 5.

Further information can be gained by calling 080-775-3230.

I'll drop 500 in this week when near the bank.

Maybe a few of the so-called "monks" in the area could should some real Buddhist charity and drop a bit of surplus food in each day instead of feeding soi-dogs or dumping it in the bin.

As will I.

Every now and then my faith in mankind is restored.

I just hope it is not another scam by someone.

My wife has called the number shown on here, and has received photos of where the girl is living.

In my opinion it appears 100% genuine.

The are, no doubt, thousands of good causes.

This one obviously strikes a chord with you Colin and is worthy of our support.

I have saved 1,000 Baht by not drinking this week so half of that has been sent to the account at KTB.

(and if you hadn't bl00dy phoned it would have got there 5 minutes earlier!  )

Being paralyzed myself, i have more interest in this story than most people.

I will try through my wife to keep the situation updated for other members on here who have been kind enough to help.

I have just made a transfer. It would be nice to have a follow-up on how if at all the money has helped. Thank you Colin for drawing attention to the childs problems.

This is the kind of people the Government should be helping,

as I am sure there are many more in similar circumstances,

instead of buying weapons of war, that are a complete waste

of money.

500THB  = NZ$ 20 and is 12 cans of beer at the local shop here. Post an account number for Overseas depositors or a bona fide medium accepting same and 2500THB is on its way.

So what if the mother returns because there is some money.

At least the poor man will maybe get a bit more help.

Also he is not old, he is only 38.

Any TV members in the immediate area, maybe a visit (not to check bona fides) but see if other help is useful- like a few clothes for the girl, I could probably rustle up a few clothes form cousins etc - shoe size etc.

Can't get out myself, but will get some funds sent tomorrow.

Done – easy to do if you have a Thai online banking...

1.000 Baht transfered to their Bank Account online.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm in, Ao Nang branch in the morning.

That's funny, exactly what my wife said. I don't care, I'm depositing money in the account tomorrow and I'm going to tell my friends at the gym as well.

Just an aside, how do you get Internet banking? SCB just told me no can do as I am not working, ignored the adequate funds in my account.

Success, A friend just came to visit, he has transferred ฿500 for me. I do hope this young lady can make the most of the generosity shown by those who have donated.

"SCB just told me no can do as I am not working.."

Are you retired or married to a Thai? Should not be a problem, take your wife in and if that doesn't work, change banks.

Huge numbers of farangs here have bank accounts and are not working. Good luck.
