brewsterbudgen
So are bars in Pattaya and Bangkok free to disregard this 'request'?I doubt it. Seems restaurants are being closed too. Until midnight.Sent from my SM-A500F using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile app
heybruce
I can understand the reason for the closing. What is the reason for not letting businesses and customers (people who wanted to go out for dinner and/or drinks) know in advance?

Is this the state of affairs in the rest of Chiang Mai? That was a public holiday and the bars everywhere were supposed to be closed.

IMO the only reason we are even discussing this at all, is because the authorities had no plan of what was going to happen, and just made something up at the last minute. Had this been decided 6 months ago, and published, there wouldn't be anything to get upset about. I can just imagine what tourists that booked a holiday thinking they would be able to enjoy themselves must be thinking when they find they can't get a drink at a bar and they can't even watch a movie on the hotel tv. Even more so for those that booked for the FMP only to have it closed after they arrived. Then being harassed by the army when they try to enjoy themselves on the beach. This should have been published 6 months ago, except they probably knew the tourists wouldn't be coming for October, and that would look bad on the TAT stats.
