kanwisher
My condo had a leak, and they had to cut into the ceiling drywall. There is powder and pieces of drywall all over the house. I'm a bit concerned cause I understand Asbestos is used in Thailand quite a bit. This condo is from the mid 90s, in Bangkok. I have a small child, so I want to be to paranoid. Is there anyway I can get the drywall tested to see if its a risk?
cheeryble
If it is drywall in the normal sense it is plasterboard, no problem. compresed plaster often 12mm between two thick sheets of brown paper if it is cementboard it will be whitish grey and thinner and harder. i guess there’s a small chance of asbestos don’t know when it was removed from the mix. BTw asbestos is not as hazardous as most think, one of the colours more hazardous (look it up). If boards are dampened before cutting that’s good, and if you could wipe up any dust with a wet cloth rather than sweeping it into the air. bazza73
You would need a laboratory that has a polarizing microscope, and someone experienced in identification. Crocidolite ( blue asbestos ) is the most hazardous, due to trace elements in it. However, all forms of asbestos are hazardous. Fibre reinforcements such as cotton or paper are easy to identify - if it burns, it's not asbestos. Rockwool, fibreglass and asbestos are distinguished by the polarizing microscope.
