Crime Southern Raids Net 26 Million in Counterfeit Luxury Goods
Picture courtesy of Khoasod. Authorities have seized over 1,200 counterfeit luxury bags and other fake branded goods valued at more than 26 million baht in a sweeping crackdown across southern Thailand. The operation, led by the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECSD) in collaboration with the Department of Intellectual Property under the Ministry of Commerce, targeted 10 locations across the provinces of Songkhla, Satun, Phuket and Prachuap Khiri Khan. The raids aimed to dismantle the illegal trade in counterfeit products and dismantle storage sites for goods bearing fake trademarks. Police conducted six raids on suspected warehouses and executed four in-store inspections where illegal goods were openly sold. Authorities confiscated a total of 1,261 counterfeit luxury handbags bearing the names of high-end brands such as Louis Vuitton, Goyard, Christian Dior, Gucci, Hermès, COACH, Longchamp, Tory Burch, Adidas, Nike, Lacoste, and Apple. In addition, they seized 1,830 other items including fake jewellery, mobile phone accessories, and counterfeit cigarettes, all of which infringed registered trademarks. Eight individuals were arrested during the operation and have been charged with offences relating to the sale and possession of counterfeit trademarked goods. All suspects and seized items were handed over to investigators for legal proceedings under Thailand’s trademark infringement laws. This joint effort highlights ongoing cooperation between authorities and international brand representatives to combat intellectual property violations in the region.
