Hi everyone.

I've got a Non Immigrant Type O Visa in case of marrige last month at the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur.

It as a multiple entry visa. But all what it says is that i have one year time to enter Thailand. No expiring date or how long am i permited to saty in Thailand.

Somebody told me that it is for only 30 days good but why did i pay 5000 baht for it then as a Tourist visa 1000 baht for each entry costs. :o

I'm a little bit confused now.

Could anybody help me in this case and give me more informations about expiring, extention and so on.

Thank you very much in advance.

You may enter Thailand as many times as you like and stay up to 90 days each time during the one year validity of the visa. Each time you enter you should get a permitted to stay stamp for 90 days. You need to exit before that date but you can immediately return and obtain another such stamp.

If i ger a single entry non-O lopburi does this mean I don't have to leave the country every 90 days and can stay here indefinitely just extending every year? Thanks and sorry if it's a stupid question!

A single entry will get you one single entry: 90 days and thats all folks ...

I'm on a single entry non-B which i've had for nearly 10 years at the moment which I just extend every year. If I changed my non-B to a non-O would that mean i have to start leaving every 90 days? Sorry but I'm a bit confused on this issue.

If you already have a non immigrant extension of stay believe you should be able to change the reason next time if you want to use the 40k family income option.

Yes you could obtain a single entry non immigrant O visa if married and then extend your stay on the basis of 40k family income.

Thanks. So basically I could change my non-B to a non-O in Thailand because i'm on an extension andseeing as both my wife and i meet the 40k per month salary requirements and then i wouldn't have to leave Thailand every 90 days as if i were starting a with a fresh non-O from another country? I could stay her year in year out without ever having to cross a border?

The reason i want to change from a B to an O is I want to take a sabbatical from work in BKK for a few months and just relax. At the moment my visa is tied in with my W/P so if i just quit then i lose my visa status and have to leave to get another visa. At least with a non-O and my wife meeting the salary requirements I can use her salary as my "guarantee" to extend

The only thing i don't fancy doing is every 3 months crossing the border. A friend of mine on a non-O has to and he said sometimes its a pain (last time he went somebody broke into his car parked in Nong khai in the short time he was in Laos) and his passport is getting full of full page Laos visas!

Thank you roietdweller and lopburi for your fast reply. There is still one question i have.

Someone told me that it should be possible to extend this Multiple Non-O after 90 days for another 30 days before i have to leave the country and do what we call as Border run to get another 90 days stamp. Would mean that the Visa is at least good for more than one year.

Is that statement true or just hot air?

Thanks in advance again.

You must leave the country every 90 days or less.

Visa valid 1 Jan 07 - expires 31 Dec 08 - you enter Thailand on 31 Dec 08 and can remain for 90 more days.

No. It’s much simpler than that. You do not have to change your visa status. Quite simply, for your next application for extension of stay you write on form TM.7 under “Reasons(s) for extension” something like “to live with my Thai wife”.

As you are now on an extension based on employment, once your work permit is returned to the labour department you must report to Immigration within a certain period – I’m not quite sure how many days – and Immigration will give you a stamp saying you have to leave within 7 days. Instead of leaving, you submit a new application for extension of stay, this time to live with your Thai wife, with the required documents. Make sure your wife has proof of tax-paid income of minimum 40k per month for the 3 months prior to your application.
