5 year multiple entry DTV visa (Destination Thailand) from 2024-xx-xx
Retirement visa comes with hassles of it's own. Such as the re-entry permit requirement. I think it ends up being a lot more expensive too. I qualify for both and went with the DTV. Leaving every 180 days is not a big deal compared to the METV which required me to leave every 60 days. I don't plan to stay in Thailand more than 180 days a year anyways, so it's a good fit for me. -

Accident Tour Bus Involved in 13-Vehicle Pile-Up on Phetkasem Road in Prachuap Khiri Khan

A multi-vehicle collision involving 13 vehicles occurred on Phetkasem Road in Prachuap Khiri Khan province on the afternoon of 12 June, leaving three people injured and causing traffic congestion stretching over three kilometres. The incident took place on the southbound carriageway near a bend at Ban Thung Ko, Moo 8, Bo Nok Subdistrict, Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan District, at kilometre marker 291+700. It happened during light rain and just 100 metres from the Thung Ko health station. Police Lieutenant Rattanaporn Thongjeen, an investigative officer from Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan Police Station, responded to the emergency call alongside rescue teams from Sawang Prachuap Foundation, highway police, provincial transport officers and highway department personnel. On arrival at the scene, authorities found multiple vehicles, including pick-up trucks, saloon cars, a six-wheeler and a tour bus, had collided in a chain reaction due to slippery road conditions. The crash initially involved a saloon car and a pick-up truck colliding, with the tour bus then ploughing into the rear of the vehicles ahead due to insufficient stopping distance. Additional vehicles following behind were unable to stop in time and crashed into the pile-up, bringing the total number of vehicles involved to 13. Spilled engine oil on the road surface worsened conditions and contributed to the subsequent collisions. Three people, two men and one woman, sustained injuries and were taken to Prachuap Khiri Khan Hospital. The tour bus was carrying 24 foreign tourists, 14 of whom had boarded in Bangkok and the remaining 10 in Hua Hin. Fortunately, none of the tourists were injured. The group was en route to Chumphon pier for onward travel to Koh Tao when the collision occurred. The size of the bus and its position blocking both lanes of the road led to a severe traffic backlog. Authorities worked swiftly to remove the wrecked vehicles and clean the roadway, completing the operation and restoring normal traffic flow within two hours. UK UK economy shrinks by the most since 2023
The UK economy experienced a sharper than expected contraction in April, with official data revealing the steepest monthly drop in exports to the United States on record. According to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS), Gross Domestic Product (GDP) fell by 0.3% in April—a far greater decline than the 0.1% drop forecast by economists surveyed by Reuters. This downturn marks a significant shift from March’s modest growth of 0.2% and underscores the wide-reaching impact of international trade tensions, particularly those stemming from US policy decisions. April saw the implementation of former President Donald Trump’s aggressive tariff measures, dubbed "Liberation Day," which imposed steep levies on a range of countries, igniting a full-scale trade war with China and impacting allied economies, including Britain’s. The ONS cited that the most severe monthly decline ever recorded in goods exported from the UK to the United States occurred in April. This drop affected nearly all categories of goods, driven primarily by the newly imposed tariffs, which slashed demand and increased costs for exporters. “Decreases were seen across most types of goods due to tariffs,” the ONS reported, highlighting the widespread nature of the fallout. The economic slump poses a significant challenge for Chancellor Rachel Reeves, who has placed economic growth at the center of her agenda. In an interview with Sky News following the release of the figures, Reeves admitted the numbers were "disappointing" and acknowledged the added pressures that businesses have faced. During the same month, firms contended with a rise in the national minimum wage and increased employer national insurance contributions—factors that, according to the ONS, weighed on performance across sectors. The contraction was led by declines in both services and manufacturing. The services sector, which makes up the largest portion of the UK economy, shrank by 0.4%. Manufacturing output also took a hit, dropping by 0.9%. The real estate and legal industries were particularly affected by a slowdown in housing activity, attributed in part to higher stamp duty rates that cooled demand and reduced transaction volumes. The automobile industry, which had shown strong growth earlier in the year, also stumbled. Car manufacturing, once a bright spot in the UK’s industrial output, saw weaker performance in April, further contributing to the overall decline. With international trade becoming more volatile and domestic pressures mounting, April’s figures raise fresh concerns about the resilience of the UK economy. The unexpected contraction casts doubt on near-term recovery hopes and presents a tough backdrop for the government’s economic strategy moving forward.
