100 motorcycles seized, teenagers arrested in Chon Buri

By The Nation

Chon Buri police set up a road checkpoint Sunday night to thwart road racing and seized some 100 motorcycles either because they had either been illegally modified or were ridden by teenagers who had no licences.

Pol Col Jakkraphan Kittisiripornkul, commander of Samed police station, said some 40 policemen from his station were deployed to set up a road checkpoint on the Chon Buri-bound Sukhumvit Road in Mueng district at 10 pm and arrested more than 100 teenagers during the course of the night.

The checkpoint was set up in line with the National Council for Peace and Order's policy to crack down on road racing and police had anticipated plenty of road racers on Sunday night because Monday was a holiday.

Jakkraphan said most of the seized motorcycles were illegally modified, some of the young motorcyclists were not wearing crash helmets and several did not have driving licences.

Most of the arrested teenagers were under 18, Jakkraphan said, adding that those younger than 18 should have been at home by 10pm. He said their parents would be summoned to the police station to pay finse and would be warned to rein in their children.

How many had no rear lights?  My step-daughter's boyfriend is a policeman.  I pointed out, whilst travelling together the number without rear lights.  He confirmed my worst fears - if a farang hits an unlit bike, the Thai driver would go to hospital; the farang to jail.

Drain the bikes of all gasoline and oil etc., put them all on a ship and dump them in the sea to make an artificial reef some place. No wai and 500 baht fine for this, give them all 100 hours of street sweeping community service or 2 months in jail...their choice.

They could/should do this EVERY night. Imagine that! Cops working!

I know. It beggars belief.

An American friend was turning right off Pattaya Klang onto 3rd Road some years back. He had the green light.

Some Yo-Yo on a bike hit his right front fender, speeding, in the wrong lane, went flying ass-end-over-tea-cup, jumped up and ran away.

My buddy got to spend the night on Soi 9, in a cell, till his wife coughed up 50,000 baht the next day.

----------

Note to self...Do a runner before the cops show up.

If the other guy ran away what was he arrested for?

Also did he not have 1st Class Insurance which should have paid any bond?

Why use a submarine for an artificial reef?

That said, it would probably be more useful doing that than the one they have ordered...................
