Chiang Mai governor Prawin Chamniprasart on Friday morning floated ashes of funeral flowers offered on Thursday by mourners for His Majesty the late King Rama IX.

The sandalwood flowers were burned at the Royal Crematorium replica at the International Trade Exhibition Centre in Mueang district late on Thursday night.

The governor held the rites at the Mae Ngad Somboon Chon Dam at 10am on Friday. He had previously held a 7am religious rite to collect the ashes.

By midnight, 620,156 mourners had placed funeral flowers to bid farewell to the late King at replicas of the Royal Crematorium in 25 districts.
