Vendors lean on humour as Yom River submerges market

The swelling Yom River submerged the Phai Tha Pho Central Market in Phichit’s Pho Prathap Chang district on Monday morning, prompting vendors to move their display tables away from the up to 20cm-deep water and put down sandbags as walkways for customers.

The vendors also gave their market a new satirical name, the “Pha Tha Pho Floating Market”.

Although there was no rain and the flood level seemed stable, that could change as northern runoff continued to pour into this water retention area.

How nice that they can see the fun in flooding.

Did it occur to you that the vendors  have stock which is perishable, the market is also the source of their income hence their efforts to both earn a living and provide a service for their customers.

Also  might it be a classic case of black humour?

Consider the reaction to  inconveniences by Londoners during ''The Blitz.''

You bet it was! I am just suprised over how stupid it sounds to have fun about loosing part of their stock and their income.
Not something I would make a joke about.
