The Corrections Department is reviewing inmates in the prison system nationwide who have been convicted of illegally making or modifying guns to enrol them in training with the Royal Thai Army Ordnance Department to aid the Ministry of Defence in manufacturing weapons.

Department chief Pol Colonel Narat Sawettanan said on Monday that he had instructed prisons and remand facilities nationwide to review inmates involved in gun crimes to respond to a policy set by Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-o-cha for qualified inmates to be trained to assist the Defence Ministry’s weapon-making industry.

So they are going to teach them how to make guns properly?

Great idea.

No flaws in that one.

Oh...

Wait...

No...

Hang on a minute...

The lunatics have finally taken over the asylum.

And the asylum simply being the Thai military government's corrective services? Or is it the term asylum more embracing and includes the government as a whole?

UP next : Police raid on illegal gun manufactuary run by ex-convicts.

Yes but a pedantic correction: "Police raid on illegal gun manufacturers run by ex-convicts and corrupt turnkeys".

Hope they do not try to sell these prison made weapons abroad.

No need to worry, the domestic spurned husband market will see that none go to waste, or abroad!

Makes sense to me! Enroll drug addicts to manufacture fentanyl. Enroll drunk drivers to manufacture alcohol.

..at least they have a full understanding of the product.

Almost daily we read of schemes that make Thailand's ruling classes look even more stupid than their worldwide reputation would have it.

Teaching criminals to make firearms...what on earth could go wrong there?

They already know how... it is the reason they are in prison.
Now they will be trained to produce them to Mil. Spec.
As long as they are not provided the materials to produce ammunition as well...

So they are going to teach them how to make guns properly?

And at the same time teach them how to run a proper auction!

Nothing, if you don't count improving their skills for future illegal activities, the side-tracking of huge amounts of useful resources for personal use and resale etc. - so nothing can go wrong.

Amazing Thailand indeed...

Man, saw that news on BP and was looking forward for this thread 5555...

I think, looking at the state of the country and government at this time, that move actually really make sense, all about consolidation...

The crooks and thieves recruiting more crooks and thieves, they already have some sort of monopoly on drugs, weapons seem the next logical target business model :cheesy:

And confiscating unused bank account...

Keep squeezing, I think there is a few drops on blood left on this one... :whistling:
