Look to our neighbour to the east for future direction. Death of 'Democracy' in Cambodia. Now a true despot. Will this be Thailand's future?

Sign  of  the  times.  Where  is  it  any  different in real  terms?

The   wobbly wheel  turns. And  to  avoid  attention  to  the  wobble  in  one  wheel   fingers  are  pointed  at someone  else's.

The  joke of  it is  that whatever  or  whichever  wheel it is  it  is  always  attached  to a political conveyance pulled  or pushed by  some  form of  naive  or   hungry donkey!

...And all citizens forced to watch 'uncle' on the tele on Friday evenings, maybe?

Thankfully all Televisions have an on off button which most of the population found how to use 3+ years ago. Me I just sit and watch paint dry, so entertaining compared to the other.

I also just endured it this evening had to smoke a cigarette outside to prevent long term ear damage (only because my television was turned up too loud incase anyone is monitoring the forums)

Talk about a sledgehammer and a nut ....

They are only concerned about 1 boring video a decade ago, so they try to camouflage it by invoking a blanket decree.

What next - banning photos taken of airport tarmacs?

It is unreal how a beautiful country like Smiling Thailand would manage to repulse their coming visitors because of their controlling leaders who will find out that with less tourist equal to less money, but not to forget the cash cow ( the mighty farangs) they will pay for all of that.

Cld get interesting. In a gov agency east of BKK a decadeish ago one of the officers was studying some of the best porn I have seen for a long time. In full view of everybody, including WP and other customers in the foyer.

Must have been a guv computer - whom, technically, would have been the owner?

(Don't worry, KP, a few coups ago!)

It's a "catch all", with this ( and several other "catch alls" already on the books) they can arrest and imprison practically anyone they want whenever they want.

Exactly.  Amazing how few get this.

What if you have a video of yourself and a girlfriend getting down and dirty? I mean, what's the harm in videoing yourselves in the throws of sexual ecstasy? Would they classify that as pornographic content lol? I would consider it a home video :P

Im sure it has been mentioned in the thread.

Sounds like the issue is this so called "revenge porn" when you break up, they will post pictures on social media. Very nasty.

But thats the world we live in, nothing sacred anymore

Well they needed something new. Defamation and Computer Crimes ridiculed, the one we can't discuss discredited. Having "offensive material" on your computer smacks of "unsuitable behaviour" which is globally the "flavour of the month". Jobs a good 'un!

"We found porn on your computer" - virtually impossible to disprove!

They are indeed. Step outside your front door and sniff the wind. The smell of fear gets stronger with each  day passing. That nice Mr Prayuth and Mr Piggy must surely be having a really good home life right about now. Mum and the girls getting really stressed. Prem and one other yet to die and taking their own sweet time about it - one of which will call for a postponement of elections so perhaps that one won't happen just yet.

And the new head boy. Well... I'll bet he's feeling just peachy. I feel an extended overseas trip coming on.

Wow you’re really pushing your luck mate. I wouldn’t want to be your close friend. Tread carefully I also can read between the lines.

Tip of the hat to you. Thanks, but I suspect I'll be OK. I don't have any friends, I'm an a$$hole. Well known for it.

I'm just waiting now for immigration to stop foreigners at airports to look though their phones and computers for illegal content.  That will be the day tourism takes a dive for sure.

The US is already doing that, I don-t think they have noticed any downturn in tourism...

Thank god that the times when downloading porn is long gone. And if you need to wank when staying in Thailand then theres some problem with those who do that.

Really?  The non-citizens go through a different line going through immigration, but I can certainly see them.  I don't see any of that going on.  Maybe the few being pulled aside and sent into secondary (who knows), but that's not even a small fraction of them.  Or are you just potting at the "evil mercuns"?

Now people who go online with their real names spewing anti-American hate and misinformation might have something to be concerned about at the visa application stage...

Yes! If you look suspicious, sound suspicious, declare the wrong stuff,... open up. Don't want to give the password? See you in court and we take your computer right now as evidence. I know of a very good friend of mine who is clean as a whistle, but he did not look good, did not sound good, and did not declare all: https://globalnews.ca/news/3268531/cellphone-search-at-the-border-cbsa/ Did you buy that shirt 4 years ago as part of travelling? Better declare it!

@chrisinth   FYI CCleaner  will get rid of those issues and clear local caches, history etc  - i just did exactly what you described on my uTorrent Client - where before I had a long list of recent downloads, now there are none.

Seriously, does anyone think this law will be widely applied or, as has been said here already, used to "get" people that the authorities already have on their radar?

I look at it as "it's probably never going to be a consideration" but...

If you imagine that tomorrow you're a famous person (Hollywood, politics, whatever).  Then it's a dead cert that someone will be on the make trying to find a thread to exploit.  It doesn't matter if it was decades ago, framing information happens.

i see porn everyday and twice on a sunday. there's pornpimon, pornthip, tanaporn, siriporn, somporn, chuleeporn, kamalaporn... thailand is full of porn

The act says HAVING PORN ON YOUR COMPUTER IS ILLEGAL.

So surely if you do have porn just make sure you do not HAVE her on your computer do it on the bed or any where you like just not on your computer.

Not to sure about your laptop, but i suspect your smart phone disappearing up the crack might be a problem for her but hey ho.

One wonders of course that if someone gets a knock on the door and the cop say i understand you have porn on your computer, and low and behold there is your beloved Porn on your computer, would this mean you can sue the cops / government for wrongly invading your privacy or some such ???

I must be reading the article incorrectly because it appeared to say that possession of such material on your computer was not a crime but refusal to remove it was. Did I miss something?

Yes you did,,
“The revisions to the Computer Act gave the court the authority to order such data destroyed and specified that possession alone was a crime. Previously the court could only rule that posting such data online was a crime.”
