Factory workers claim sexual abuse by doctor

Executives at a Japanese rubber factory in Pathum Thani are demanding action following claims by 11 of their staff that they were sexually abused while having their annual health check-ups.

The Siam Fukoku executives met with Nava Nakorn Industrial Zone Nakhon Ratchasima project director Surasi Haengsrisuwan on Friday to receive an update on the progress of the case.

Surasi was told by one Japanese executive that this case, having become widely known, could further shake the workers’ morale and negatively affect their lives.

He also heard evidence from the victims, who were sent to the doctor for their annual medical check-ups on November 17.

One victim recalled that her one-on-one meeting with the doctor was the last stop of her check-up routine.

The doctor, she said, immediately unzipped her top and felt her breast for a while before pulling his hand out.

“I was shocked and embarrassed. There was no medical equipment being used, no asking for permission nor apologising beforehand. He also asked me personal, not-health-related, questions such as my name, where I live, how I go home and how long it takes,” she said.

Another woman also said the doctor had unzipped her top and felt her breast before asking questions not related to her health.

She said she later asked others who told her they had also been subjected to such behaviour by the doctor, so they alerted the firm executives about it and made it known they wanted to file police complaints.

Surasi said he had duly filed a complaint with the police as per the Japanese executives’ request and would follow it through, since such improper behaviour shook the women’s morale and could tarnish the country’s reputation.

The doctor in question, who has promised to attend an interview with police on Sunday, told The Nation that he had merely performed the routine check-ups as per the program without any intention to sexually harass them as claimed.

He said he had carried out check-ups on workers in the same way, although he didn’t elaborate.

He said the allegations might have come from people with a malicious intent to hurt him and he vowed to fight the case in court.

Yeah, right...

It is often said that sexual harassment is not about sex, but power....the latest reports do highlight the phenomena....and it is unacceptable.

But it is not only a powerful person against a weaker ... it also occurs between co-workers and people of similar social status but regrettably such cases don't make so much the news (or get reported perhaps)...

If a Japanese corporation is involved, we may see a different outcome and it seems they are taking the young women seriously. Good for them.

looks like the good doctor is trying to threaten the women with what he as said, this kind of low life needs to be locked up but as usual due to his position he being allowed to do it all his way, shows how pathetic the law is here, anywhere else he would already be in charged

"Friday to receive an update on the progress of the case.",no hurry ,the doctor

is still deciding whether to come to the station or not, needs more time to come up with a good story.

Yep, always remember to fondle a woman's breasts when taking her temperature.

Unfortunately he may argue that he was looking for breast cancer lumps, and get away with it, ... but a woman would feel the difference between a grope and a proper assessment for breast cancer !!!

Maybe he's occupied with plan "B" - preparations to open the next illegal clinic after he lost his license.

is this becoming the latest fashion ? people spouting this crap who have Zero credibility assessing others' view of thailand's image

I thought it was standard practice to have a second person in the room during any medical examination, particularly with a male doctor and female patient - even in Thailand in my own experience this has always been the case :saai:

This may actually be what the doctor was doing, just in the most ignorant fashion possible. Much depends on the context. If he is a very old village doctor, it might be understandable and the doctor replaced. But a more modern, well-trained doctor will have a very difficult time with this explanation.

He'd better be checking the guys for testicular cancer if he claims to be checking for breast cancer.

This story doesn't really move on. What puzzles me is no mention of bras, we know they all wear bras come what may so (a) he must have struggled to get his hand in or (B) he had a grope through the bra, can we get clarification?

Good thing I didn't pursue career in gynecology. I'd be looking at 100 lifetime sentences.

Doctor feel good

no signs of breast cancer

good

Smiling Thailand if you got a high profile job with money and contact there is no way for justice even if it is reported to the media.

Doctor is like god so god is always right.
