Flooding continues in Surat Thai

Although rainfall has stopped in Surat Thani’s Phunphin district, many areas remain submerged in floodwaters up to two metres deep, as the Tapi River continued to break its banks on Sunday.

 

As Phunphin is near the river mouth, the Royal Thai Navy has, for the second day, sent out 30 flow-thruster boats to help push floodwaters into the sea more quickly.

 

The Surat Thani disaster prevention and mitigation office reported on Sunday that the past 24 hours had set a record for cumulative rainfall in Tambon Sai Kheung of Phrasaeng district of 35 millimetres. The situation in the districts of Tha Chana, Muang, Chai Buri, Phanom, Tha Chang, Koh Samui, Chaiya, Kanchanadit, Koh Pha-ngan and Don Sak had already returned to normal on Sunday.

 

Meanwhile, 20,306 residents in the districts of Phrasaeng, Wiang Sa, Khian Sa, Ban Na San, Ban Na Doem and Phunphin still suffered from inundation, and officials and private businesses were sending in relief bags and drinking water.
