Livestock Department urged to sterilize abandoned dogs, cats at Trang temple

By The Nation

A retired policeman on Tuesday urged the Livestock Department to sterilize abandoned dogs and cats at a temple in Trang's Na Yong district.

Pol Lt Suwan Kruathong, 62, said there are more than 100 abandoned dogs and cats at the Hua Khao Temple in Moo 6 villlage in Tambon Na Muen Si.

He said many of the dogs are sick and have skin disease due to parasites.

He urged officials to step in and help the animals.

On Tuesday, Suwan, some of his retired police friends, and other people bought medicine for the animals. He cooked rice and mixed it with medicine to feed the animals.

The abandoned dogs and cats are now living in front of the giant Buddha image at the temple. Many have been run over and killed by passing vehicles, he added.

This is something that needs to be done in many major towns & cities, here is Pattaya there are way too many feral cats & dogs around causing problems, around Jomtien there are packs of dogs running around some numbering 12, these are a real danger to both traffic and pedestrians alike because it only takes one to take a dislike to someone and the whole pack will attack.

Time to rethink the current policy on a national level.

How about chosing 10 cities and letting them all have a different approach? Monitor the impact and the winning strategy will be rolled out nationally.

Sterilizing  these stray dogs around town doesn't stop them crapping all over the walkways.

Sterilizing them will prevent 'more like them' to crap more...........

Did you ever give that a thought??????????

At least........ Sterilizing is a long stride in the right direction....... Right now the 'strays' in Thailand are much like muslims........ They will overpopulate the world soon and control us all........   (No more walking street..... LOL... )
